Despite the absurd difference of tone in the actual game, the overall concept of a zombie apocalypse on a tropical paradise is still very depressing. In the game not only can you find the same couple from the trailer, you can also find quests or locations with the same depressing tone. One for example is near the starting area where you first met some of the NPC, there's a small swimming pool filled with blood and surrounded with dead bodies, in the middle of the pool you can find a heartbroken man crying and traumatized at the fact that he was forced to brutally killed his own infected wife, brother and father. Oh and btw a hut nearby the starting area also contains a zombie that is actually a cameo made by a pornstar, kinda ruins the atmosphere when I found it by accident

As you said zombies are removed from us but the trailer made it feel closer to home and here's my opinion on why Normally you see a human become inhuman, and you can remove yourself from the connection. In this trailer you see a little girl who's a zombie become human. You see her as a human last. You went from removed to complete connection which made the retrospect even harder to imagine and much more sad because now you know what will happen to the little girl instead of knowing she was a little girl first

God, this trailer hit me totally in the feels, was not prepared for it at all, have played the game, but not seen this trailer. Tears were streaming. You guys nailed it. I remember being stoked for this when it was coming out. And I watched this trailer thinking a new, cool, fun zombie game... and cried. At a trailer of all things! I've got this one saved, as this is forever one of the most emotional things I think I've ever seen, and unique in that it's only a couple minutes long. Dead Island is regarded as one of the very first zombie first-person shooting games that involved melee combat mechanics and crafting weapons in a semi-open world. This trailer gave a very positive emotional impact when it first came out and of course, that was able to drive sales. Great reaction guys :)

If you wanna understand what you're getting into you should watch the first clip which is like 2 minutes long "Ronald Mcdonald kills how to basic." What was actually wrong with the game that made it unplayable, I've 100%'ed it multiple times (gotten all achievements, done everything) and not once did I stop to think "Wow, this game sucks". One of my all-time favourite games, and that's out of a list of 1500 to 2500 games. Yea, the trailer slapped, and the game was different, but that's the point of a cinematic trailer y'know, to show off the cinematics.

I think Techland debuted with Dead Island? It was fun but clunky. Dying Light was their absolute masterpiece. And the second one is coming out this year.

The trailer is great and game is pretty good too. But they are so disconnected from each other. It feels like the tralier is advertising a completely different game. Don't get me wrong i love dead island. It is fun but if you ever decide to play it or watch it for yourself, don't expect much to sync up with the art you justed watched beyond an easter egg in the beginning of the game.
