So fun fact about The Sacrifice mission. Bill the old soldier dude in the first group canonically dies during that mission. At the end of the entire level you get to the bridge and need to use a generator to raise it so you can get away from the zombies but halfway up the generator dies so one of the players has to drop down and refill the generator in order to make the bridge start rising once again and get out of reach of the zombies. Later on when you come through the level again as the New Orleans crew you can find Bill dead at the generator.

They released more DLC last year, with a teaser trailer that included Bill snarking that "You should have brought more tanks". So maybe it's retconned?

@@switch317 If I remember it right, it only works for a while. Since special infected like them can break through doors faster than the normal ones. That's why you either throw fire on them or kill them head on with consecutive shotgun blasts.

Interesting thing about Zoey (ponytail girl) is that she has probably one of the deepest stories of the survivors in either Left 4 Dead. In the comic that you can read on the l4d site, we see that she’s a college student and horror movie fan. She starts the apocalypse by honoring her father’s request to kill him after being bitten, tragically finding out right before the Sacrifice campaign that he genetically could’ve survived the bite unchanged. Through the game, Bill (the old army guy) acts as a father figure to her, which makes it even worse when he sacrifices himself for her and the others (but especially her) against those massive zombies in, appropriately, the Sacrifice.

I used to play it on my 360, but now its on my ONE S. I play Splitscreen with friends/family whenever they come over and we always play Versus Man, taking down your friends in the funniest of ways is still fun and super funny to this day. I once crushed my friend and his entire team with one dumpster as the tank, and the round had just started. I was literally dying of laughter 😂🤣

Fun Fact: The reason why there's different campaigns in every group isn't just because of the game should be but also, these survivors are already infected but shows none of the effect. They infect their surroundings instead that's why everytime they get rescued, it always fails that leads them to another run of survival. Been playing since 2011 and still one of the best Zombie coop ever.

These Zombies you don't have to shoot in the head, they technically aren't even undead. The Zombie Outbreak in Left 4 Dead is a Rabies like Pathogen known as 'The Green Flu' So you can technically be an asymptomatic carrier. So even if you're 'immune' to the virus you're most likely still a carrier.

One of the series' main ideas is the thought that the only way humanity will survive is through carriers.

Both groups are roughly in the same area, but both cover a variety of different environments on their way to safety from the zombie outbreak. The maps have a canonical order and often end with the escape vehicle of the last map breaking down or something along these lines. The map The Sacrifice is canonically the last of L4D and requires one player to stay behind and keep the horde off a couple of generators (if memory serves right) so the others can escape. This makes it the only official map you can't complete without another player, as the AI is incapable at anything beyond staying close to the player(s), so you can't leave a bot at the generators. Canonically, it's Bill (the bearded guy) that does that and the same area is revisited in the second game, with his corpse siting at the generators. That's the trailer that ended with Bill countercharging three of the Tanks (Hulk-Zombies) with a molotov-cocktail. The Zombie Clown are part of a map that takes the group through an amusement park. I haven't played in a while,. but I think their shoes squeak really loud when they run (after spotting a survivor), which attracts more zombies.

“Zombie Clowns?!” Yes. The second (or third if you have The Passing DLC) campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 is called Dark Carnival. It involves you arriving at a zombie infested amusement park. You fight your way through the fairgrounds and there are lots of clown zombies that attract even more zombies because their shoes squeak when they walk. You can also bash their faces and make their nose honk, which is pretty hilarious. Eventually you must fight your way through the Tunnel of Love which is also infested with both clown zombies and normal ones. Once you leave the tunnels, it has the best ending in my opinion of all the campaigns. You get to start up a light show concert. Full of lights, fireworks, loud music and, of course zombies. The light show catches the attention of an, at first, human helicopter pilot and are flown out of there in sweet style. Not to mention that there are at least 3 games available to play around the fair. And one even rewards you a gnome if you beat it. Such a fun campaign and game all around.

I hate that damn gnome. You get an achievement if you take the gnome all the way through to the end of the campaign, and the first time we did it, I had the gnome at the rescue chopper, put it down to cover my friend as he dashed for it too, and neither of us picked it back up so the achievement didnt register - apparently you had to have someone carry it as the level ended. We spent 50 minutes on that, and anothr 50 redoing it to get the achievement xD

But when you must go through a zombie infested town, sugar mill and corn field crawling with witches on the brink of a massive storm in search for gas, it just gets better. It adds a lot more scarier aspect to it starting at chapter 3 when the storm kicks up and you can barely see or hear. And it makes you be careful to conserve some supplies for the trip back.

The cool thing about Left4Dead is a few things. 1) It's literally done as a movie. Where the movie poster is the loadscreen, and it shows your account name (as if you're an actor) playing as a character. 2) The first game came with the second game. This game was practically put into many other games. So it was easy to have a friend with the game and not know they had it and just play together. The Orange Box comes with all Left4Dead content, Portal, and Team Fortress. All of these games are co-op and great fun. Lastly there will be 4 players, the players will be bots that aren't filled up. It Usually says Zoey as herself on the movie poster for the characters you didn't pick. You need teamwork to manage resources AND to save each other. Since someone can be badly hurt and so they can't be risky and the one with more HP and med kits should be in the front, ect. Also you can NOT survive a special zombie alone, such as the Witch shown in the first trailer (if you shine light or look at her directly she can hold someone down and they will die unless someone else saves them). So it's better with human players when you decide who gets what weapon as you move along, or saves someone faster with better shooting, or groups better so it's easier for accountability of each other (instead of the AI letting a person go alone or being too far apart to get pulled by a special zombie). 3) Game gets dumb fun when you act like you're in a movie. Many times when you get good you actively try to act like the incompetent zombie guy who lets the zombies in the safe room. Or act like the hero "go on without me" or "tell my babe back at home that I love her". It just evolves into a dumb mess when you do that. Or like nearly every zombie movie "accidentally" setting off car alarms or tripping and you have to go back for [person X] even if it means everyone getting wiped. 4) Following the movie point there's always 5 acts in each map. Each map is a film. Generally the mid point is the plot twist and more noticeable in L4D2. One of the main criticism of L4D2 is that many maps involve daylight and more color, takes away from the atmosphere and people generally liked the original 4 man cast more. That being said the game direction was done that way so when the mid point of the game came it usually was at sunset when everything went FUBAR. So it created a larger dynamic. So I didn't share that opinion about daylight, but I did prefer the original cast because their in game interactions were gold.

Left 4 Dead is a great game. with characters whose personalities are completely different, and their conversations in-game reveal quite a lot about them, such as Ellis is quite skilled at making things, even making a truck 99% zombie proofed (the 1% tore the truck to shreds) but also somewhat of a mischievous by stating that stock cars at events in malls are usually not gassed (something he learned when trying to steal one). Nick's lines seems to indicate that he's some kind of hitman (such as stating that you can get brains out of a suit but not swamp water, or stating, uncomfortably, that he once was at a wedding with a crying bride in a bloody dress), and both him and Francis have the same symbol, showing that they are both part of a criminal organization.

3:26 The infected jumping over buildings and screaming is called "hunter". He prefers to attack people who leave the team. Also, his eyes cannot see due to mutation. that's why she screams "to scare" because she doesn't know what's going on in front of her. It can detect the other person using its sense of smell. I love L4D!! Here's some info since ya'll asked! It's a game with multiple chapters and each chapter has anywhere from 2 - 5 levels. In each level you have to get from saferoom A to saferoom B with plenty of stuff making that difficult. The final level in each chapter usually swaps saferoom B for an escape vehicle or another objective like raising a bridge etc. The story of the world is told through some random dialogue between characters and environmental stuff such as other survivors writing on walls in safe rooms, even some science info about the zombies can be found ingame. You can also play solo with 3 AI teammates, however to play as a zombie you need to play the online Verses modes. I would definitely recommend watching a lore video based on L4D. The infection and how it all works, what the government has been doing, the characters stories... All very interesting.

Some good tidbits of info: This is regarded as one of the best zombie games ever made. Every time you play through, zombies and items are placed in random locations, so they're never in the same place each run, making each run feel different enough it doesn't get repetitive. There are several different types of "Special Infected", aka the Smoker, the guy with the long tongue. He coughs a lot, giving away that he's in the area. His tongue shoots out, if he gets a player, he starts dragging them towards him, making him great for setting up traps. The Hunter, the one who jumped/pounced on Louis on the car in the city. They can do a lot of damage real fast. The higher/farther the pounce, the bigger the landing bonus if they land on a player. Also, once he pounces you, he starts ripping at you, and you can't do anything unless helped from another player. The Charger, he's the one in the overalls with 1 big arm. He charges forward, and if he grabs one of the players, he keeps running for an extra second or 2, knocking away anyone else and starts slamming the player until either one dies. The Hulk zombie is known as the Tank. Once his music hits, it always makes players pucker up haha. They take an entire team to focus down. They can lift rocks and chuck them at players, knocking them down if hit. They can also hit cars that can all but kill players if they land on them. When he hits you, you literally go flying, and can be knocked off map ledges for a quick death. The name of the game is teamwork. If the Hunter, Smoker, Jockey or Charger get you, you can't do anything to escape, and need your teammates to kill them in order to get back up. Also, the badass girl you guys liked, Zoey, is voiced by the same girl who did Cortana for the Halo series. The funny interaction with Frances and Rochelle, about hating stuff, is very great, because throughout the first Left 4 Dead, Francis, the biker guy, always says he hates stuff. Usually it's quite random too. The attention to the small details in this game were so good. In the very first mission on the first, Mercy Hospital, when you get to the hospital itself, there's some zombies in hospital gowns. When you progress into some construction zones, you see zombies that are wearing high-vis vests and hard hats. There's so much more, but they hit the nail on the head on almost every category when making these games. Part 2 really made Part 1 obsolete, because they fixed some issues that made Part 2 much more streamlined. Anyways, sorry for the big paragraph, just wanted to tell some of the great things this game did and still hasn't really been matched.

Since you asked L4D is a four player multiplayer game with both online co-op and single player options. So it can be you and three bots, two friends and two bots or four of your friends. The AI is fairly smart but not as good as a real person if coded to be very helpful. There's also a verses mode where up to 8 people can compete against each other trying to complete levels with both taking turns as survivors then as the special infected trying to stop those survivors. Scoring is based off how far you get in the level with completing the level being a perfect score of 1000 and getting 60% of the way through it before dying being worth 600 out of a 1000 points. Each survivor counts as 1/4 of that score so if only one person completes a level it's worth 1/4 as much as if everyone gets out. Two other things of note, first there are multiple special infected (Like the Tongue guy aka the Smoker) each have their own strengths and weaknesses which I won't go into here but they are called the Hunter, Smoker, Boomer, Charger, Jockey, Spitter and the Tank, there's also npc only Witch and level specific infected (Like the clowns). Last there's something called the AI Director who behind the scenes is tuning the difficulty up or down as well as moving items in the level around based on the difficulty you select. If your doing well it throws more normal zombies and special infected at you, if your doing poorly it will ease back and maybe add a few easy to find healing items or better guns. So about how it started, the comics talks about how it’s a virus that was originally airborne, and it’s constantly mutating, which is why A) the special infected eventually arrived, even though it took about 2 weeks after it started for them to appear, and B) the virus is, according to them, is unable to be cured. The Sacrifice (the comic, not the campaign) talks more about it I think. I’ve only seen a few pages of it but yeah I’d recommend reading it.

TheRussianBadger did a great video a few weeks ago about the modding scene in L4D2, and it really brings back memories. But yea, one of the better horde shooters, the mix of regular zombies and the special infected keep the tension up, and having an A.I Director making the game harder or easier based on how your team performs really amps up the suspense.

Funny thing about Left 4 dead and the reason why it has zombies like the Smoker (zombie with long tongue) it's because it was mainly inspired by Resident Evil, the zombies like the Smoker and the Hunter (zombie with the hoodie attacking Louis, character in black in the first intro), are actually sort of mutated (you can tell they are by their weird aspects, long tongue for example). In fact, Zoey (girl on red jacket) is inspired by Claire Redfield, while Bill (the old veteran wearing a beret hat) is inspired by Mikhail Viktor, both characters come from the Resident Evil franchise.

So (from what I remember) Left 4 Dead takes place when The Green Flu virus starts to spread throughout the country. People continue to get sick, die, turn into zombies (known as Infected but are also called Zombies in game) and certain people mutate into specific zombies, like you've seen Smokers (tongue zombie), Tanks (Hulk zombie), Spitters (throwing up female zombie) and there are a few others as well. Left 4 Dead 1 has an official comic released by Valve (the company who made this game and also made Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike) explaining the story of the infection, explaining who the first cast of survivors are and how they are surviving and even has some parts talking about what the government is doing during the apocalypses and with the first cast of survivors.

Interestingly to know, L4D 1 and 2 were not developed or published in any way by EA despite the second trailer for the first game having an EA splash screen as well as the other one. For anyone who got kind of confused by that: from what I could tell this was likely for the publication of the trailer, which is a bit weird but might be related to the release on XBox, as VALVe is a primarily PC based company or at least that's their focus, so maybe they outsourced marketing to EA for the console release.

Awesome reaction. I use to play so much of the left 4 dead games back in the day. Like other said it was a co op game where you could play up to 4 people together. If there was no one playing in their spot, the Ai would take over. What made the game unique in its game play was the team had develop a director AI for the enemy. It would send the zombies in waves at the players and if they were not doing so well not send as many. Also the director would be in charge of where these specialized zombie would appear However, if the player loitered around more, it would send larger horde to get the players to move on to the next objectives. Once you reach an objective you would reach an safe room. Then you could re- arm and heal up for your next objective. Also with the director AI it mean every person experience was different since it was not scripted event but an AI that was actively evaluating your game. It made it interesting. With this being a coop game, this mean only through other people help you could get out of grasp out of certain enemy like the tongue guy call out the smoker. This was meant to encourage people to stay together. Those infected that seem to have special ability were called special zombies and there was the smoker, tongue guys that could pull you away from your team. Then there was the hunter which was the guys that would jump on you and knock you prone or flat. Then there was one not shown but called a boomer which was an bigger zombie that would " this is degusting" vomit on you and have you attract other zombie to you. There is the Tank which is the big hulk like zombie that you saw in the trailers like a mini boss zombie. Very hard to kill and can throw slabs of concrete at you. The crying girl is known as the witch and like the trailer state you don't put your flashlight at her or else she could run at you fast and get you down quite quickly. For left 4 dead 2, there is the spatter, the one with the hinge jaw girl in the left 4 dead 2 trailer that spit acid in a zone and the jockey which like the hunter jump on you. Unlike the hunter who knocks you down, it can guide you and often guides you into its other regular zombie. Finally in that one they added the charger. This was a zombie against most people tactic in the first left 4 dead to stand in a corner and shoot away as it charges through your gunfire to pin a person against the wall. Another aspect of the game in both was called versus where one teams plays as the specialized zombie except the witch. This is where two teams of 4 try to get as far they can or beat the scenario and who get farthest or fastest wins. Its fun as both side gets to go as the injected and the humans. One strategy some use as the specialized is draw players toward the witch or full them toward her and force them to put flashlight on her. The zombie don't take any specialized head shot to go down. Its just there it does more damage like any other shooter but just so many of them. Fun fact since I originally from new Orleans is coach in the left 4 dead trailer seem to be sporting Louisiana state University (LSU ) colors as they are purple and gold and that what he wearing. Its a fun game and you both can get a change to play it it is really fun. It make for a perfect Halloween setting game as well to try out as it can be scary but not to much and more a fun time to have.

Somethings I feel people haven’t mentioned that is neat in my opinion: There’s three types of infected in game: common, uncommon and special. Uncommon are ones I really want to touch on because of how cool but overlooked they are. Ceda workers in hazmats suits, mud people in swamps, construction workers, riot guys and the clowns are considered uncommon each of them have specific maps they spawn in and have their own little catch. Clowns attract other infected, mud men blind and so forth. But that’s not all! There’s uncommon uncommon that don’t spawn all the time in jimmy gibbs jr and the fallen survivor! Jimmy was a stock car driver that’s important to the story who only has a 5% chance of spawning in a certain map. (He’s also Elis’ idol and he will sometimes openly cry when he has to shoot him) The fallen survivor is special in a way because he actually will actively run away from you if injured, you will want to hunt him down because he often carries things like Molotovs, pipebombs, and medical supplies

few fun notes, first of all, the special infected as encountered. boomer: this one is less seen as much as talked about, it's the one with slime that bill wipes on francis. really big balloon like zombies that puke on you or explode on death, they attract hoards when you're covered in their "boomer bile". which actually became a item later on in 2 that you can throw and use to attract a hoard into fire or whatever hazard you want. witch: the crying super infected who can instantly down you, you can sneak past her if you're careful. but don't get too close, look at her too long, or flash your light on her. smoker: this one always has a smokers cough and spits up something that it uses to wrap you up and drag you in. hunter: these ones are super fast and jump super far, they'll probably come at you out of nowhere, but they're super squishy. the infected glass Cannon. tank: the other super infected, this one is built like donkey Kong and will smash you from close or far away. unloading bullets on him is the best policy. charger: this one charges through undead and human alike, taking his target in a straight line until he's stopped, careful with this one, cause that "stop" may be in a instant death hazard like charging you out a window and into a fall at terminal velocity. jockey: this maniacally laughing little gremlin with hop on your back and try it's best to drag you into harms way, weather that's another infected or just away from the group. you can kinda fight it's control but it's not easy. spitter: this gal's nasty. she likes out a pool of noxious acid that does some serious damage if you get stuck in it, if another special pins you in it? you're most likely dead. also, as the sacrifice goes, it's cannon that bill sacrifices himself in order to save everyone else on the bridge, you find his body in the passing holding his M16. it's also apparently cannon that after his death his soul was dragged into the embrace of the "entity" in dead by daylight, where he is now one of the survivers.

So my best friend got the first one on steam when it first came out and we played it at my house on my computer in the middle of the night with the sound off to not wake anyone else up.
