It is possible to level up to max level very early on. At the beginning, instead of running all the way down the hall to initiate the cutscene there is a room to the left. Push the zombie blocking the door out of the way and then jump onto the bed. The zombies won't be able to reach you, and they can be hit. Now, knock them over and get the instant curbstomp kills. They will give massive xp for being so high of a level. Reload the checkpoint once all the zombies have been dealt with and boom! Easy leveling.

The thing I actually loved the most about this game was the manual aiming mode. Took a little getting used to, but you could aim at a specific body part and hold L2 to go into a lock on mode and then flip the right stick from left to right for a swing for example. Made the controls feel like Skate or something. It let you strategically aim for limbs and cut them off. when i think dead island i always see resort area with beaches because that's only where the game truly works with it's premise city in chapter 2 is straight up trash with whack a mole with bandits and ALWAYS spawning 5 runners on your back because of reasons jungle in chapter 3 is... even more MEH, especially with shooting human enemies it feels like wallmart far cry 3 prison is just a straight line to the finish when i think riptide i see again the first area with beaches and survivor camp defending from the horde is the worst existence after that i only remember movie theater and i threw finall boss from my memory but i know riptide had some great improvements over dead island now real problems: ESCORT QUESTS - that's way too many of those jin - everything she says and does pisses me off, she's told specificly to NOT go to police station and she goes anyway and getts raped and... she doesn't seem to react to that, she flips from being traumatized to being a dumbass to being annoying as shit. guns are trash, not one is good to use techland made slow walking zombies that almost run - not fun and they have that annoying 3 steps charge - annoying and that shitty animation after getting hit where they just swing right back at you - thraight up trash running infected have tendency to always spwan behind your back - not fun and running infected have too many spots where they spawn infinitely and run straight at you like for the love of god there's so much screaming and scripted loud screams but your actions will draw them... techland also remembered to put walkers in annoying places to lock onto you and charge for a grab - sometimes can't even stop them but techland also remembered to put EXPLODING SUICIDER BEHIND MOST CORNERS AND DOORS dead island is basically best remembered as a fond memory of those few actually good moments and mostly first act with tropical beaches

I love this game. I'm hoping what I've been hearing about dead island 2 actually happens

I'd be happy if it's just the same game but modernised obviously. For how generic this game was, there weren't actually many games like it at the time.

the absolute best thing about this game was the Sam B. song Who Do You Voodoo

The only thing that makes Dead Island stand out in my mind is that it's a game where you spend 80% of your time kicking and stomping, since every single weapon has the durability of paper mache.

Oh, and the intro cutscene is a bit bizarre, since it's a first-person montage of partying, walking around in the hotel, etc, where you meet all four playable characters.

The hotel opening was the best part it's like they put all their effort into the first 2min in the game

Unpopular opinion: you'll never truly experience dying light the way it was meant to be if you haven't played dead island at some point beforehand. You'll notice some stuff they used in dead island also in dying light as a small and unmentioned tribute, mostly just reused assets or models around the map and stuff like that

for real you can completely shit on it until the end of time and I'll agree with you all the way but also love it at the same time. both dead island and riptide are a mess but a really fun mess. its like playing in the mud, you are only there to get dirty and have a good time.

If you were struggling to drive in The Resort, you're gonna have a tough time in the City of Moresby lol. This was my first zombie game on PS3 and one of my favourites of that generation. On PS4 I play both Dead Island and Dying Light, they're both amazing for their time, love 'em lots!
