Wow, never seen a table of characters so viciously turn on each other at the end. Huge credit to both Becca Scott and Josephine for playing non-heroic, not noble but very believably petty characters!

As ever, thanks for the playthrough. Great content for contemplating running the adventure (obviously paired with Seth Skorkowsky's review!). For me, I'd probably lean into the isolated setting and sanity mechanics a little more to draw the walls in and intensify the vulnerability of the PCs in the face of an unknowable alien horror. And the slow realisation of the human tragedy of all those dead babies… but, I can only just imagine how tough it must be streaming an excellently produced one-shot to time constraints, and with an online cast. And the characters ended up totally messed up. They were quite a bit bigger than the adventure… sort of like Fiasco does Call of Cthulhu… which works better for viewers of a televised drama. …and in the bizarre tapestry of questionable accents this wasn't an I. Y. Yunioshi, but it made me think of Mickey Rooney more than Dick van Dyke. It's a fine line, isn't it?

The Keeper was too lenient. I run this scenario with three players and, while they survived, none of them will be operational for some time. The Dead Light attacked relentlessly. Inside the cottage they had one round before the windows on one side shattered and people were wounded by the flying glass.This is what should have happened here. They were chased while in the car, attacked in the diner… It was almost “Aliens” in a way, or “The Mist”. Here, the characters had too much time on their hands. The title of the scenario is “Dead Light”, not “Quarreling Characters”. Have the Dead Light attack while they are quarreling. Make it violent, unstoppable. Windows shatter, furniture is overturned, characters scatter… It must be very clear that the main goal is survival at any cost. You can’t have a “Dead Light” scenario where the main monster is a sideshow.

I'm running this one shot for new players tomorrow, so this comment was really helpful. I was planning on having the players stick around the diner until the dead light force them out, maybe scare the dead light away with a power line getting knocked over in the wind with sparks flying everywhere
@vincenzoberetta10853 жыл бұрын
@@SpencerTheBard Don't forget the hypnotic effect that the Dead Light has on human minds and use it to the maximum. Just looking at it is dangerous: you literally risk to become a deer in the headlights while the creature moves towards you. This is a scary monster on multiple levels.

I'm fairly sure they wanted to give these actors time to... Act :-) there's no right or wrong way to run an adventure, it can be different every time you run it based on the group and their desires. :-)
@ripred422 жыл бұрын
There's no "right way" to play coc or this scenario. The number one goal is to have fun. If that's a deadly relentless chase, then do that for you, but don't act like this is how everyone should play it.

Bit of feedback for the keeper (of course this is my opinion only): too much of repeat sentences from the NPCs. I understand that they were freaked out but four five times of the same sentence is wearing/annoying. Actually had me say “omg, shut up!” Which I normally don’t do. There is a line between building suspense & annoying repeat. Just a thought.

No need to mention how unbearable Jasmine was, but I would like to add that Becca's character would make allot of sense... if it was inflicted with temp. insanity with an addiction to tea. Otherwise, great show!

I wanted to find the inspiration and prepare my own Deadlight game by listening to this stream, but gave up 35 minutes in because of the active derailing of some players preventing any atmosphere to settle. Shame.

I generally like Jasmine/Bronze Girl but I have to admit she was wearing on me and I never thought I'd say this but if I was playing Call of Cthulhu, I wouldn't want her at my table. If I was trying to get into the creepy mood of a CoC scenario and "Jasmine the Cockney Clown" kept yucking it up next to be, I'd probably have to hand her a stfu after a while.
