Dead Mall - Clarion Mall - Clarion, Pa. A small hidden gem tucked in the mountains right off Interstate 80, this ol' mall built in 1980 still has the aesthetics and feel of the 1980s. Jcpenney, AMC, and Gordmans are the biggest tenants left. Also has an abandoned Kmart attached.

No bath and body works? I absolutely positively love that JCPenney wood grain facade. WOW. Classic. I'm doing my penneys series and I hope I could find one around here, otherwise I'll have to hop on 80 to hit that one. These rural malls are so charming. I loved that one I did in effingham IL. Great video of this.

Aye, my hometown. KZbin searched it out of curiosity! Remember going into k-mart and smuggling snacks into the theater as a kid. The JC Pennys, GNC, and sports store are all closed now. Theater is still open. Crazy how times change

This place was even better when I was younger. I haven’t been in there in years, but I remember every store that used to be there. Lots of wonderful memories in this old mall

So sad seeing it's "current" state. I grew up in a nearby town, being brought here to watch movies by my grandparents. It was one of my most favorite malls due to the little plant sections in the middle, loved sitting there looking at them. It's looking like I'll be moving back around the area after spending nearly 10 years away. . . So much has changed, almost for the worst in a lot of situations. Too many malls dying and stores going out of business, too many towns and neighborhoods being bought up for rentals. I miss Pennsylvania so much, it will forever be my home. But it will be painful returning and seeing what was lost.

I remember this mall in the late 80s early 90s as we would visit in when my sister was in college. Years later, I'd attend college in Clarion, (early 2000s) and while watching this video, recounted many memories I had of going there with friends, going to Destinta theater, eating at the Roadhouse. Such good memories there!

This makes me so sad. I went to Clarion University in the 90's. This place used to be a bustling hub with a mix of students and local community members. The mall was a mix of small, local stores and larger chain stores like JC Penneys and K-Mart. There was a music store on the corner adjacent to K-Mart...it was a nice little place where you could usually find anything you might need. Seeing it like this just makes me feel nostalgic and sad.

Omg the inside of this mall is great. The old school feel is what makes it stand out. The wood panel above the JC Penny is a nice touch. The MAC atm sign is just plain retro. Everyone has a different spin on documented malls, stores and etc.

Wallie I want to thank you, this was my hometown area years ago throughout the 80's as sad as it is seeing this through your camera's lens. I had alot of fond memories with this mall growing up and K mart was one of my favorite stores. I used to work at the staples store that was right down the slope from K mart if you recall that. Hits me hard somewhat that my lovely home town area is dying slowly.

I remember when that place had this small arcade near the entrance on the side with Kmart. Man, those were some good times! I loved that arcade. Small, but fun. I especially remember this one game where you had to step on small spider buttons when they'd light up. Good times. RIP Clarion mall :(

Libi My Heart It was about the center of the mall, if I remember correctly. It was on the side of the mall of the front parking lot. This would have been like the 80s, I think. They also had a store on Main Street in Clarion.

This reminds me a lot of my mall up here in Oneonta. JC Penny and K-Mart were the original anchors (although the K-Mart closed in the 03 bankrupsy, it's now TJ Max), along with a movie theatre (renovated December 2018). The aesthetics are also very similar, we have several hallways like the one you were in, and most of the abandoned storefronts can be walked right in to, as they're used to display boats. For my mall, it survives because after TJ Max moved in, there was a massive renovation outside, adding 3 additional anchors which are all still open (well Bed Bath and Beyond became Harbor Freight Tools), but the inside appears as if it's as it originally was.

The store that you were able to get into, used to be the old jewelry store. I remember as a child, this mall used to have a lot of traffic in it. So many storefronts have come and gone here... Kind of sad that so many have closed their doors. TnT used to be my favorite clothing store there while in high school. I would always get my Billabong shirts there!

Where the Olympia sports is located, there was a wonderful little sit down restaurant, and a classic 1980s arcade. There were never any fountains, those look like the original planters and seats. There was a Walden Books next to JcPennys, and next to that a Radio Shack. I remember this place being so very crowded all the time. There was a roller skating rink right behind the mall called Skateland.

Maurice's used to be Jo-Ann Fabrics. There used to be a Walden Books beside Pennies, and a Radio Shack on the other side of the DMV. Then there was a hip clothing store called Wear Else. Then a flower shop/lottery store. Then King's Jewelry. The Verizon store used to be a Claire's. Destinta was the first of the theatres to move in to where I think Dank's was. Olympia sports used to be an NRM (National Record Mart), but before that it was an arcade and it had WWF WrestleFest. The Cricket store was where you could buy porn and tie dye, hair dye, various drug paraphernalia.

How do you update a mall or a department store? Floors are floors. Display racks are all alike. Is a new logo or changing the color of the floor matter? I want good merchandise, service and prices. I don't care if a store or mall looks like it did thirty years ago.

I think of the unfortunate people who work here. They go to work and spend 8 hrs. doing nothing..... just thinking about what went wrong. They get their pay check at the end of the week and it won't pay their bills let alone their rent in a dump. They might have children who they can't support = eating beans and 3 day old bread; depression is easy to understand but hard to accept. I really feel for them = caught in system that is now totally broken and there is seemingly no way out.
