Dead Malls Season 2 Episode 14 - Kennedy Mall Revisited

Kennedy Mall was the first mall I ever visited for the dead mall series and it was the beginning of something amazing. Its a mall full of history and interesting stories, from its old gothic architecture to the sad outdated interior. This mall has surely made a comeback and saved itself from closure. But with nearly all the anchors gone and a nonexistent food court. Will it be enough? Come join me and find out as we explore the Kennedy Mall in Dubuque, Iowa. Wow! So, Home Goods is opening at Kennedy Mall this week! The Fun Station took over where Sears was. It's a play area. I think it's helped the mall a little. Wishing Dubuque could get a Dillard's or Von Maur. It has around different colleges/universities. Wishing there was a livestream option there now lol...

Best use of past pictures so far and great music Africa and Phil Collins. I don't know why security officers don't want people taking films on youtube. One would think it would be welcome to promote the mall and get some free publicity. The stair case you showed was just like the Dan Bell mall when he went to the place Legend of Bilie Jean was shot.

And of course the typical Northern Films driveaway and drive around like no one else does. Although not very pleasant now looking at the snow but will be a welcome reminder some day in July when the high temperature for the week has been only like 65 and everyone is complaining about how cold it is.

The theater was not physically attached to the mall - it was a separate building which is behind the mall, that the mall still considers part of the mall for some reason. It closed as you mentioned but eventually reopened under a new name/ownership. You can actually see it in your video out the windows when you go down the Cost Cutters corridor - it was a JoAnn Fabrics on the left and the theater on the right, and you can almost read the Phoenix Theaters sign. Some additional nuggets - * my mom was the manager of Mode 'o' Day dress shop 1975-1977 * my brother spent several years playing the Easter bunny for the mall, my grandma was dating a member of the family that owned the mall so he had an "in" * in the late 90s the mall tried to sue me, my sister, and her friends for putting soap in the fountain. we didn't, but we know who did * nearly every time I come back to visit my family I have to hit Mining Company for a Cave-In. If you didn't stop there on your trip, well now you have a reason to do a third visit

I grew up in the Chicago area and I think we have a distorted view of the state of malls because there are several thriving malls near or in Chicago . It wasn't until I moved to St. Louis and later Maryland that I realized how many malls throughout the country are dying.

Oh yeah btw i remember that fountain in 3:31 and the cookie co. Man I remember that if I was a very good kid in the mall my grandma and grandpa or my mom would buy me and my siblings cookies if we were good or otherwise it would be a snack. Man do I miss cookie co. ☹️ plus I miss borders.

jJust waattched Retail Archeology do a video on the Metrocenter Mall, or something like that in Phoenix and he mentioned a movie Bill and Ted's Adventure being filmed there. He didn't get the movie and stand in places where scenes took place with a picture from the movie or show a clip, like you would have done.My first thought was, where's a clip? Ncdogg would have one. He didn't even give exact locations of the scenes,just said to check out the movie if interested. You would have checked it out. And he kept mentioning the history of what was there but didn'nt show what was there like you would have done adding a picture for emotions and not just words. And all of them do is show litter on the floor, and poke around the back theorizing what was there. And of course none actually film outside. When are you coming back. I want your films, not theirs and how about doing a Parmadale video if you are going to branch out to other types of abandonened historical places.
