Just recently discovered your channel and I’m addicted! Great videography but my favorite part is how you delve into the history of each mall. I wish some of the old malls of Kansas City (like Bannister Mall and Metcalf South) were still around for you to tour. If you get a chance you should do Independence Center in the KC region!

Where did you get that picture of the fountain me and my wife were just talking about smelling like cherry tobacco from that cigar store that sold puter statues

That was definitely a Sam Goodie. Later it was part of Angels Attic before it moved into Herburgers old location... or it's current residence. There is nothing special in back of Dunhams since it was converted into storage for Hy-vee. The wood paneled business was Mr Ts Restaurant. Godfathers and Senior Maxes are some of the oldest stores there. That Christian store has been there quite a long time too. The arcade used to be by JCpennys and my favorite store that sold pokemon cards, Sports Cards Plus, was right next to the empty storage store with the mobile mall kiosks you saw.

Willowbend in Texas will be down to 1 anchor store soon. Macy's is 50% off now. Nieman's is holding on for dear life. The mall about 15 minutes away swallowed up the traffic. Willowbend opened an Equinox and had a theater set to open in 2020....alas, Covid happened. Maybe it could've been saved.

I grew up going to this mall it’s so sad to see it like this but honestly there wasn’t much going on when I was a kid.

This mall is a complete beauty kinda hard to think that all of our favorite places are becoming a thing of the past but people are more at home now you can do everything from there the Malls are just starting to become filler places with low budget store access at best soon as I seen that shirt post ik it was over…. Please go do south county mall in St. Louis that place is falling completely tf part and they just announce the closing of the anchor macys 😪 my childhood is crumbling before me 💔

As far as malls go it's doing pretty well. Southpark in moline is a shell, Northpark is doing OK. Born in 89 in NW Davenport and spent many afternoons and evenings here from being a kid and going to the Disney store with my parents, Santa in the mall, Pocket Change Park etc. as a teen spent waaay too many stoned afternoons here lbvs. Iconic

Keep watching in disbelief at the demise of these beautiful centres. Must be hundreds throughout the US, meanwhile in my patch of Australia, we had this on the news last night. What polar opposites to the US. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJC3g3WGnM90rposi=qmoZXTcejfA7vEGV

The opening Muzak in the mall makes me want to see a sign that says “worlds best cup of coffee” in a dirty food court vendor! 😂 Let’s see who gets the reference!

To be clear, Target was in Mason City since the early 70s. Kmart was there for about as long. Walmart and Shopko came along about the same time as the mall, mid 80s. What DID change in the early 90s was all the retail developments west of Kmart, which the 90s Target was part of. In the 80s, Mason City basically ended at Kmart, and then (the original) Walmat once that strip center was built. In the 90s, things exploded, with the new Target, new Walmart, Menards, Fleet Farm, Kohls, Best Buy, etc etc. Suddenly you didn't have to go downtown anymore. When they built the movie theater out west and closed the one in the mall, that was really the end of the mall. When I was a teen in the 80s we'd go to movies, but first kill an hour or two at the mall. I moved away but still got back regularly to see family. The mall limped along through the 2000s but once JCP and then Younkers closed it was game over.

And a hearty good afternoon to you from Decatur Illinois. I remember all the great shops that were in the mall. I remember GNC, Pearl vision which became Lenscrafters, Chadbands, Spencer Gifts, Garcia's Pan Pizza by the Slice, Waldenbooks, K B Toys, Sears, Bergners, J C Penny's, Orange Julius, Pretzel Twister, Foot Locker, Old Navy, and so many other shops that don't exist anymore. But I know there is one way to revitalize this mall. If you want to know how this mall can be revitalized, feel free to contact me.

I was a news reporter for KMUS radio in Muskogee back in the 70s and 80s. Senator Don Nicole's press office gave me the news that Muskogee would receive a large UDAG block grant to fund the downtown area. That was 1980. It's strange to see how it went from old to new to abandoned. I still remember the Roxy theatre and the Round House bar.

I grew up around here in the 2010’s and it was still a pretty good mall until around COVID, I’d always wait in that Oasis spot while waiting for the Didoughs pretzels (one of the best soft pretzels ever) and then I’d walk into this book world store, great memories

I live in Iowa City and I recently visited Lindale Mall. I visited on a Monday and some of the mom and pop stores more or less occupy the mall now. I watched a lot of your dead mall series. I'm glad you toured a mall that was close by. The malls have changed and probably won't last in the near future and it's sad to see.

A crazy idea for a mall such as this, during the fall and leading up to Halloween….a spook house/mall/terror walk through. Could be hellaciously scary if done right. Have a dividing wall down the center and have people go in one way and come out the other, with different scenes in each store area, ending with a “zombie attack”.

I’m in the Omaha area and this was my early childhood mall! I remember going here to Dillards often. All it amounts to nowadays is that one Japanese restaurant and Build-a-Bear, and Dillards I guess.

That store with the different colored tile was a candy store. It had every candy you could think of. This mall was an absolute blast in the 90s and early 2000s. It started dying around 2006.

Been watching since your Westland Mall video where I spent my childhood at, but I drove by Eastland one time in 2015, it was sad to see both malls going downhill and all the history behind both malls. I think it’ll be tore down or restored for a family venue.

That vending machine looked like it had been there since 1985. Haven't seen one like that in years. Also that mall looks like a cross between a mall and a high school from the 70s or 80s with those floor tiles.

As of late January 2025, MercyOne Clinic only stayed for two years and closed, unable to recruit enough help to keep the clinic going. Leuthold's clothing store moved back downtown in late 2024 (they had originally been a downtown store). Anytime Fitness also left the mall for a standalone building further south on Bridge Avenue. Big Lots closed when they closed a huge number of their stores.
