Bit of a departure from my usual Bolt Action but a great change of pace. I'm also going to be ordering some scenery soon so games are definitely on the horizon 😄

Nice painted figures Ste, i like the lawmen more, the red scarfs shirts are really cool. I do like the german with the trenchcoat in disguise also, nice kitbashed, and age of sigmar head is very nice. Cheers.

Thanks Lucian, much appreciated! These are such lovely miniatures to paint. I decided that the red scarves would contrast well against the drab colours of the clothing. And the fact that they work so well with Bolt Action kits makes them even better for kitbashing and individual touches to the figures. I have some Wild West buildings arriving soon so definitely looking to get a few games in 😀

Looking good. You mentioned your next step in scenery. I opted for TT Combat as they are very reasonably priced. I got the Town buildings and gallows. I wanted them to be raised off the ground, as the buildings I see in films often are, so I raised mine up using card under their bases.

Cheers Steve! Yes the TT Combat range is the one that I've been looking at. They seem to have a really extensive range of buildings and other bits and pieces. Definitely one I am considering taking the plunge with 🙂

Cheers Garry! It took me a little while to decide exactly how I wanted to paint these but opted for the muted and drab look in the end. I think it works pretty well with these figures. It's an awesome kit and you will definitely enjoy painting them up 🙂

Apologies for the delay in responding buddy. I haven't worked on any more Dead Man's Hand gangs yet but I have found that the different bits and pieces really go well with othet systems. For example I have used the arms on a a few Bolt Action projects and some of the heads for an ongoing Turnip28 project. It really is a very versatile kit. I plan on picking another box up soon and seeing what else I can create from it 🙂

Cheers mate, very kind of you! I've used the same technique that I use with my Bolt Action painting but use very minimal highlights. This gives them the dull almost drab look that I was aiming for 🙂

Great showcase! absolutely love your color scheme. Very western-like :) Was it difficult to put the shotgun together? the joint looks very flimsy on the sprue

Thanks Michael, glad you like them! With the colours I wanted something in the middle of looking realistic but bright enough so they would still stand out on the tabletop. The shotgun wasn't too difficult no. I was like you when I saw it in that the join looked like it would be difficult. But a small blob of superglue gel and it fitted together really well with a good join 🙂

For some cheap terrain go to TT terrain I got a western town 4 buildings and a gallows for under £20. Plus some scatter terrain and a wagon for under £10.

This is the brand that I've been looking at outside the 4Ground buildings. My local store has a huge range of the TT scenery so this may be the route that I take 😃

Not a tutorial per se, but whenever I paint these, I always go for a limited palette of about eight colours with a good mix of dull and bright colours. I do very basic block painting for the main colours and then hit all the miniatures with a black/brown wash. For the highlights, I always aim for quite sharp/bright highlights which is quite different to how I'd normally highlight. Hope that helps 😃👍
