Great Escape Games- plastic gunfighters!

Great Escape Games has been putting out rules and figures for Dead Man's Hand for some time now, a smaller scale skirmish game set in the old west.
When I heard they were going to be putting out a plastic kit to accompany the game, my interest certainly piqued up.
Similar in style to Northstar's Frostgrave plastic kits, you'll get two sprues of fives bodies with an assortment of parts to build up a posse of gun fighters. Are they lawmen? You'll have badges a plenty for them if that's the case. Are they bandits? There's a few choice parts on the sprue here to make some. You have a few gun options and plenty of holsters to stash them in.
I ran into issues getting those holsters and certain arms to cooperate with the bodies though. Biggest issue was the jackets getting in the way of other parts. Maybe I need to experiment with them further. I wish there were at least one more set of figures though. 10 isn't enough. I want more! Thankfully they work pretty well with Northstar's plastics, so if you've got a few spare Frostgrave bodies laying around, you could probably whip up a few more gunslingers with no issue.
Parts wise, I do with there were a few more masked heads though. Hopefully we'll see a full- blown outlaws set to compliment this one.

Stargrave (and its fantasy cousins) would also give you some bare head options to use with these guys. The barbarians box has some good bearded ones. Heck, some of their bodies would probably work for mountain men even.

Glad you mentioned it, as it dawned on me this afternoon while flipping through some other books. Maybe grab some demon heads from the frostgrave kit for some evil minions?

Mix and match parts with the FG Cultist sprue too. Then again, you can do that with almost anything, those cultists are a godsend for weird kitbashing. Do a word search for Faces of Felstad for my hybrids using spare parts from the Wargames Atlantic spider box.

This is a great kit, I have been craving cowboys in plastic and specifically in this kinda cartoonish look (similar to the Victrix figures). A couple of this boxes would go great with the free Ruthless rule.

Or a machete or cavalry sword. Something. I know these are supposedly "gunslingers" but carrying a knife in the Old West was nigh-on universal for men, and not uncommon for women - albeit not always a big pigsticker like a Bowie knife..

Watching this one after your preview of the cowgirls. I had to get a box of these for reasons. And I am looking forward to building and painting some gentlemen with their very fine hats. And that coat looks awful... brownish.

NOTE! These parts will work very well with the new Crew 2 sprue from Stargrave Northstar, as the weapons and arms are smaller scaled. Don't be shy they're ladies, it will look great.

After your Stargrave Mercenaries review I got a sprue off 'bay and would really like to add some of the alien heads to these cowboys. So thanks for this review, they are good models and you don't see cowboys every day.

You pushed the torsos too far back on some of them. Their coat or shirt is suppose to hang over the belts or pants so they were supposed to be assembled with the torsos centered over the legs. I just built my 15 from the 2 player starter and saw that and quickly adjusted. As for mixing, Gunfighters 2 require lots of work when using with the Stargrave crews. I gave up and just built them as normal. Not gonna try with stargrave/ gunfighters 1.

I've gone down a rabbit hole. I'm still playing old hammer, And the Britoniaians are my favorite army. I'm replacing my old GW figures with figures from Highland Miniatures. I picked up on eBay.. have you ever reviewed them?

@@ObscuritiesinMiniature my first purchase was King Arthur and Patsy from Monty Python and The Holy Grail , then I picked up a few random figure and figure packs from eBay dirt cheep. And they were out standing. The seller also threw in some other figures including a werewolf that is literally ripping a guy apart and is beautifully detailed . So far I only have one done it's the mounted duke he's my new green knight and you should have seen the jaw drops when he hit the board. The horse is massive and the detailing is a bit shallow they paint up like a dream.

They are compatible with Stargrave and Frostgrave but I think Deadzone are taller and skinnier so might not match too well

The bodies may not work but I'd imagine you could possibly use some of the weapon hands with Deadzone figures. Or just have diminutive humans.

Ugh, $28 for only 10? That's a whole hell of a lot less appealing than the McCullough game sets are, and damned annoying if you plan to swap parts between them. Rethinking this purchase despite the frame looking okay. There are GW figs down in that price range (although not many of them, admittedly). My economic disappointments aside, you could get bare heads from the Frostgrave, Ghost Archipelago, and Stargrave frames, and Stargrave has some thinner holsters that might work better with the jackets and coats. Suspect you'll still need to trim and file them down though, that fit does not seem to have been well thought out. Shame there are no derringer hands, are they unsupported in DMH rules? Would have been cute as an officer with the Concealed Firearm power in Stargrave. Also would have been good to have a few knives or machetes or cavalry swords in the mix, even sheathed ones - but you could mine Frostgrave for some of those. Very nice to see a saddlebags arm, that can go straight into Frostgrave, etc. as well, despite McCullough's apparent equiphobia. :) No seriously, how are we four games into his fantasy rule sets and still no rules for mounted combat and pack animals and stuff? Regardless, at least the saddlebags will fit, unlike that damn sack in the first soldiers box. Hate that bit. Nice to have a kneeling pose, would have liked a running one as well - two things Stargrave is annoyingly missing. No separate hats though, very disappointing. How will your giant spiders expand their haberdashery frontiers? Those badges are stupidly huge but they'd make nice add-on bits for other figs. Space Marines of the Star Sherriff chapter or something silly like that? Or maybe relieve fond childhood memories of the old Legend of the Galaxy Rangers cartoon with them and some Stargrave or other scifi figs?

I share your economic concerns though. At least the shorter packed Frostgrave kits were a tad bit cheaper. Since the gunfighters have a squatting pose, a bandit kit should have a running pose. Preferably with a big bag of cash to lug over his shoulder (dollar sign being molded on entirely optional). I've got plenty of blades and sheathes, but I agree, one or two should've been included. I might slice some of those pistol hands off to glue on a spider. Need a spider gunslinger.

I'll go back and watch it when I get a chance. I didn't think I was negative at the time, but I may have gotten fixated on annoyances. Trust me in the fact that if I was negative towards anything I just wouldn't bother posting it! If it's online, it's already passed my muster test!

Why on earth would you have a female gunfighters here? Just stop this nonsense. Get yourself resin on metal figure and move on. I am surprised that you didn't complain about lack of female knights in Perry box.
