When Yahtzee was describing the changes in the crafting system, I was thinking in order: Craft anywhere? Ok, I like that. It lets you avoid having too many things in your inventory and lets you just experiment all over. Craft with "similar" items? I could see that working. I mean what makes tying a bowie knife to a broom that different from a machete? Get them from a locker just by looking at them. -And you went one too far. Can't make the crafted items with the blueprint: And what's the fucking point now?

Funny thing is, the trailer and the cover art make this look like some dark and gritty realistic zombie game, but even this one is wacky and insane. The weapon combos are still ridiculous, like creating a weapon turret out of machine guns and a teddy bear, or making boxing gloves somehow better by strapping rubber duckies onto the fists, and you can still find ridiculous outfits including the classic ServBot headpiece, and the bosses are still pretty insane. For crying out loud, one boss is a fat woman on a mobility scooter who attacks by barfing at you!

1:25 To be fair, the Resident Evil villains never wanted to use the zombies as a superweapon. The zobmies were an unintended side effect of the T-Virus and their emergence was the result of sabotage. They wanted to create a large variety of controlled monsters sold as "Bio Organic Weapons", with the Tyrants, especially the Nemeses, as the pinnacle, their superweapons. Edit: Dead Rising is quite the strumpet indeed. All 3 games are available on Steam now, none of them is exclusive.

@stolisomancer
@stolisomancer 8 жыл бұрын
It's not that good a point, since it indicates he didn't play through to the end. In DR3 in particular, the zombie outbreak isn't there as a weapon; it's meant as a handy excuse for the primary antagonist to institute martial law and seize power. Most crucially, it doesn't work; in all the endings where he pulls it off, he's promptly deposed.

lol I remember in DR1, I had like 4 survivors with guns from a gun shop, got sucked into a boss fight with another photographer,I was tied up,weaponless ...Then my survivors proceeded to fill him with lead.thus ending the fight. maybe that's why they didn't want survivors helping you at boss fights. I don't remember anything like that in DR2 though.
@overseer06
@overseer06 10 жыл бұрын
I think what the reason they didn't allow survivors is because it doesn't fit in with the fight. By process of elimination, I assume that the boss fight he was referring to in the video was the fight against Albert (the doctor). I think all of the mandatory psychopath fights have to be done solo (the bike leader, the cop, the doctor, etc.) because I did see footage of Zhi and Jherri (two of the optional bosses) fights where survivors helped the player out.

Imagine a crossover between this and the "the walking dead" games:The twd-Gang running from zombies when they see a maniac packed with weapons made of imagination, ducttape and death mows down the horde that follows them, and Clem and the others stand there in awe and wonder why they didn't do this all the time.I know, i know, the twd-games are about drama and story while dr3 is about bashing zombies for no other reason than fun, but just think about it...

I dream of the day when a game actually meets Yahtzee's huge, massive, colossal, seemingly infinite standards, because it will be a one hell of a game. I was sort of expecting more comparisons between Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 2. I could have sworn that one of his complaints about 2 was that the time limit was a bit cruel (It's only in 3's Nightmare mode). He even said that experimentation with combo weapons were "fruitless" in Dead Rising 2, which implies that it was more of a waste of time for him. Not sure about his opinion on the save system, where you no longer have to save in bathrooms, toilets, or safe rooms unless you want to. Though, AI's pretty much the same since you could bring survivors in vehicles in 2 and it did take a little bit for them to figure out how to get in the bloody car. But the sheer size of the map sort of necessitates using vehicles to bring survivors to safehouses. Also, you didn't have to bring every survivor you save to a safehouse: sometimes they just piss off once you clear the zombies around them as they stand on a platform typically out of harm's way. And no doubt, accidentally picking up the wrong item has become more of an issue in this game than in previous ones because now you pick up items while on the run instead of stopping to pick it up so it's easier to miss the item you want while you're in a mad dash. Seriously though, am I the only person here who've played seen his Dead Rising 2 review and played the games?
@fezman222
@fezman222 10 жыл бұрын
Well, he referred to the difficulty decrease in Dead Rising 3, which can be attributed to both the lack of a timer and the fact that you can pick up any super weapon after you make it. While he may have said trying to make weapons with experimentation was fruitless in DR2, it isn't exactly a bad thing. The removal of the mechanic instead of improving it, such as making combinations more obvious, or making more combinations altogether, is a bit disappointing. The fact that the combinations are much more lenient, as you can do it whenever you want instead of only at workbenches, or that you can use items in the same category to make weapons once you get the upgrade would've made the experimental weapon system superior. I don't really get the comment on the save system. You can save whenever, cool. Not really a huge improvement, just a little convenient. The AI was bad in DR2, and its bad in DR3. It should have been improved, especially when it involves vehicles, especially since, as you said, vehicles have become more important due to the size of the maps. Survivors were more annoying then their worth, and eventually he felt that saving survivors, especially those that needed to get to the safehouse, was boring and just gave up on them. Sure, a lot of his complaints in DR2 are present in DR3, and that some of his comments comparing the two seem to favor DR2, but all the same problems persist, without much innovation. DR3 may be bigger and badder, but it lost a lot of its charm for a better coat of paint.
@overseer06
@overseer06 10 жыл бұрын
fezman222 Except he never once mentioned the timer: he seemed to attribute the easier difficulty to the weapon lockers and how the two combinable objects are right next to where the blueprints are located. Kind of like how you could always make a combo weapon at a maintenance room because there was always something either in the room or right next to it in 2. I figured that the crafting skill upgrades would have been right down his alley since he complained how in 2 that combo weapons had to be made using a specific knife and asked why he couldn't combine it with other knives. In 3, you can if you choose to upgrade that when you level up. He actually said that the AI in 2 was a lot better, but didn't feel like bothering because he came across survivors that wouldn't follow you unless you paid them. Sounds like he never even did the one where they wouldn't follow you unless you one Texas Hold-em. And like I said, a lot of the survivors I came across didn't need any escort at all: half the time, you clear out zombies around them, they give thanks, you earn PP points, and they bugger off. And I have no idea what you mean by "charm": if you're referring to running around in women's clothing or ridiculous costumes while beating zombies to death with devastating (the Elemental staff using a freaking traffic light) or lowbrow (the massager cannon makes a return), you still can. Like most people, the visuals made me think that this would be super serious. Except things like full body shark suits and a g-string really dampens the dramatic cutscenes.

overseer06 Yahtzee tends to criticize games for whats bad in them most of a video, and he sounds harsh because he brushes over the good things. Sometimes he doesn't even give any attention to the things a game does right because why should he give praise for something that is to be expected in a game? That's what makes him a good critic because, unlike other critics who work at IGN and such, he doesn't gush about games in a series that's popular. I can't tell how many times I read a review of CoD games and the like and saw them saying it was amazing. They never pointed out the flaws, and if they did, it was glossed over by how great things are.

@damaLwa
@damaLwa 10 жыл бұрын
overseer06 I actually just watched that lol but I think that's because some of the issues he had with the first one were resolved in the 2nd so he had to point it out. Whereas the issues he had in DR2 and 3 were just flipped. Yes the time limit is gone, but now it's just craft and pick. The thing about DR2 and 3 was that if you flipped their systems a bit (time limit, but easy to get weapons and no time limit, but an experimental style of customization) they would be perfect. When every second counts, it's a hassle to be asked to play around with combos. When you have all the time in the world, it's fun to play with combos. I don't think (not having played DR3 but from what I've heard) they really changed anything for the better from DR2 to 3 besides the graphics so he trashed it more so

Well, this game was the only reason I was even curious about the Xbox One. Now, I have no reason to get an Xbone. I wish they would have given DR3 more time before releasing it. What is it with reviewers and games these days? More and more often, I hear, "well, the game is basically glitchy, suffers from a lot of problems, and sucks...but if you are willing to overlook those little problems, the game can be quite fun." I am not going to pay $60 for a game that can be fun, but only if you are willing to overlook all the crap problems with it. And what is with game developers making the games so freakin' easy? Most games I play these days are so easy, they are downright repetitive and boring. I will get DR3 someday. I will just wait 'till it drops way down in price.

Weird random thing to observe as I watch through this playlist for the 80 ballionith time: At the start of the video, Yahtzee tells the observant person to "have a chip" and holds up a bag of Doritos. Being British, wouldn't Yahtzee call those crisps? Chips are what we in the States refer to as french fries.

balmsold I didn't feel that way. Only one Psychopath even proved annoyance, and that was the samurai guy. I remember that female cop was a walk in the park. I mean Dead Rising 1 psychopaths were easy, but that's because I unlocked the Megaman Blaster right away which like 1 or 2 shot them all

yeah ,they didn't meant too much of a threat once you knew what you were doing, they could have buffed them so it took less hits to kill you or give them a rubberbanding AI. about DR1 , well...you have the katana sword and the mini chainsaws pretty early on, also the manekins do alot of damage on certain psychos, like 2-3 hits or some shit

I like videos like these where He actually gives some legitimate criticisms. Like, its easy to make jokes about the games, but its more important to focus on how individual elements effect the overall game=play. Needing blueprints takes away incentive to experiment. That's a valid reason not to buy the game. I don't mind if you're funny Yahtzee, but try to keep more useful criticisms like this one. I take to hearth what you say about games and it effects whether i buy them or not (:

Haha been waiting for this review and although I thoroughly agree with the points he puts across. The game is still awesomely good fun. He did get it wrong about the locker tho. You can only take for instance 1 super combo weapon and say 2 combo weapons before you have to let it recharge. Just play it on nightmare setting and most of his arguments become irrelevant. Still had me chuckling tho I love this guys reviews :)

it was exclusive, the Wii version you would not even call it the same as the xbox, convict boss battle wasn't a quick time event, there were more zombies on the screen than dead rising, and stuff ran smoother than that...Sure the plot was the same, but not the gameplay.
