Video games as an art form do have a much faster time table than other mediums. I’m not surprised they opting for a 15 year nostalgia wave rather than a 20 year one They’re gonna run of material very quickly though. Gaming hasn’t had any meaningful progression in the last ten years. Late PS3/early PS4 games would gain literally nothing from being remade now

I watched an analysis video that praised the new "your bullets actually cause visual damage and remove enemy flesh" system, it lets you see how much damage you've dealt without having enemy healthbars and it also makes enemies look scarier and more gross the more you hit them. This kinda stuff is what remakes are for, doing things with new technology that just wasn't possible when the game first released but contributes to the intended experience.

"Don't remake something that was good in the first place. Remake something that had a spark but failed to reach it's full potential." I've been saying that for decades and couldn't agree more. That's why Code Veronica needed a remake. Not 4.
@Pineappolis
@Pineappolis Жыл бұрын
It's true, artistically-speaking. Sadly, the people making the decisions when it comes to games with budgets required to reach most people's definitions of their 'true potential' are never going to see it like that. They're going to want the guaranteed hit that comes with having the name everyone loved. I don't even say that as any kind of anti-capitalist statement - it's easy to pour scorn on thinking like that when it's not your money and/or your job on the line - but it's still sad from the point of view of someone who'd be delighted to pay the money for something awesome like a Code Veronica remake but will probably never get the chance because it's slightly less guaranteed that everyone else would be too than they would be for a Fourmake (hmmm, that one doesn't really work). Still, it's not like even a game as brilliant as RE4 _can't_ be improved with modern technology if the devs have talent out the wazoo and they don't mess with the game's tone... ...and an even _better_ RE4 would be quite something.
@bizmonkey007

I don’t understand what happened with Code Veronica. It was a great Resident Evil game that got pushed to the side and forgotten. It was the true RE3.
@Pineappolis
@Pineappolis Жыл бұрын
@@bizmonkey007 I've been pondering this for a while as well because it was a damn good game and my best guess is still weak beyond belief. It was originally a Dreamcast exclusive and, while I adored _my_ Dreamcast and Skies of Arcadia remains one of my favourite games of all time... I was very much in the minority and that did badly hurt its launch performance compared to the 'number' titles of the time. If that is the problem, though, someone needs to Capcom (i) how well the ports did and (ii) how well Code Veronica sold compared to virtually every Dreamcast title. Easy rebuttals aside, I still can't come up with any better reason it wouldn't have gotten the remake treatment. Here's a thought: particularly given how quickly they rushed Nemesis to market, do you think its possible they wanted to capitalise on the remakes being in the public consciousness by getting the _really_ iconic titles out to market first before potentially going _back_ to Code Veronica once they see how RE4 does? EDIT: God, I just realised, the first two consoles I bought on my own as opposed to sharing with my brothers were the Dreamcast and the Gamecube. My endorsement of your console apparently spelt doom for your console when I was in my teens.

I recently played DEAD SPACE again for i do not know how many times and i know exactly what characters are going to say or which way to go. if a remake has same story, same weapons but better skins etc. then it is a REMASTERED not remake. for me, if they had made DEAD SPACE 4 rather than dead space remake instead this time it is not a space ship it is a whole colony. it would have made it more appealing.

Will say, as someone who lived and breathed Dead Space 1 for a long time: What makes this game easier is one regard is that Necromorphs don’t sprint wildly at you, limbs flailing like they did in the original. They shamble slowly, or at best have a brisk jog with their arms barely moving. Slicing an arm makes them stumble, making follow up damage easy too. To contrast this though, unless you sever a limb, the Necromorphs do not flinch when shot. In the original, to counter the full sprint speed, shooting a limb caused a reaction, even if it didn’t lop it off. So aiming for a leg was easy mode, because it made them stumble in one canned animation, so you could chain shots for easy dismemberment.
@comradecommissar1945
@comradecommissar1945 Жыл бұрын
They still sprint or lunge at you from across the room in the remake they just don't do it as often. The behavior is there, I've see them do it. The only thing I can think they are missing is that they will no longer parry a melee attack with their arms at all. I also haven't noticed any of them do that weird crouch walk thing where they cover their head with their arms if you shoot at the head too much. Come to think of it I also think they tonned down some of the random swaying enemies used to do. I think the decision to slow them down stems from them being beefier in general. Also I think the lack of lunging and running may also be caused by the player shooting legs since a damaged unsevered limb will make them limp.

I definitely understand Yahtzee's points, and that's coming from someone who did enjoy the remake. Like, it made enough changes that I knew I wasn't in for exactly the same story, and that kept me on my toes. And I'd say that the remake is greater than its predecessor even without the graphics update. Having said that, I think it's safe to say if you weren't into it the first time around then the re-make probably will similarly fail to hit the mark(er).

It's a good thing the lion's share of the populace did enjoy it and that Yahtzee, both past and present are outweighed and in the minority. Isaac was the guy in charge of actually repairing things, so it makes complete sense he'd be running around doing all of that, nevermind him being basically the ONLY guy still actively trying to get around the ship and fix things up enough to not die from the latest emergency that's resulted from his previous efforts to *not die*

Dead Space is one of the rare times where I disagreed with Yahtzee's negative review (Because most AAA games do, in fact, suck.) It's probably just my unreasonable love affair with claustrophobic science fiction thrillers, though. I even liked the movie Pandorum, which probably only six other people watched. Give me body horror on a dark spaceship and I'm automatically pretty happy.

I did quite enjoy DSR, but it had several problem which I wasn't sure were just down to me being old now. Hearing it was £70 stung. My thumbs would hurt after not touching a controller for the best part of a decade. The lighting and Zero G sections made me feel dizzy and nauseous at times. And also minor gripe, but there were times where it just was straight up unclear you couldn't do stuff. I liked that you could explore the ship with it's interconnectivity, but at the same time there would be stuff such as the rig in a tram tunnel I spent like an hour throughout the game trying to grab with Kinesis only for it to turn out you couldn't do so for arbitrary reasons. Also backtracking to go visit stuff now that you had clearance felt bad since you'd usually only get resources, maybe some logs, and on a rare occasion a weapon upgrade. Couple this with the fact that in new game plus you lost your security clearance (I get that maybe there could have been a few issues with you accessing areas you shouldn't for plot reasons, but I don't feel like that would be too hard to solve), and there is no way to easily view rooms on the map you haven't visited without going and looking at every floor on the map to look for greyed out rooms. Oh also and the final chapter dragging on exactly as it did in the original was just dull. It was a good game and I'm looking forward to an eventual remake to the sequel (but not 3, I don't think there's any way to salvage that hot mess), but it could have been just a bit better. also lol good luck with Hogwarts Legacy

@@Jerry-dx3cb One can not master something with the limited free time their responsibilities give them, to master requiters no responsibilities. Also, action always kills horror. Good horror requires a balance, forced defenselessness eventually gets frustrating which eventually kills the horror, but being able to easily kill every enemy also kills horror. The best horror games are the ones where one can fight back but it is not a good idea, running is most often the best idea.

@@clwho4652 What an unbelievably dumb take. It takes time to master the game yes, but not unlimited time. People with real jobs and responsibilities and shit and have done it. "Don't remake something that was good in the first place; remake something that had a spark but didn't quite reach its full potential."
