No! Two months ago a scorpion stung me in my sleep at 3 am in the morning. I screamed my lungs out. Not out of pain, but out of fright and the sudden realization that a scorpion was in my bed. You see, I’m an arachnophobe and I have an intense fear of spiders and scorpions. Having the cops come over at my house while I’m in that state would have made the situation worst. They would probably think I’m on drugs and try to apprehend me. I would put up a resistance in that state of mind and they would have shot me on the spot. Cops only know how to escalate the situation, instead of de-escalation. This is what turns them into the aggressors. It’s a good thing my neighbors minded their business. As much as our siblings and family may get on our nerves it’s a gift that they know us well enough to know when it’s not us texting them and immediately go on alert. In regards to the neighbor not calling the cops, as a woman she may have done it for self-preservation. She knew something was off b/c she took the pics, however getting the cops involved especially when the suspect is still onsite and it’s a female screaming is iffy. I personally have called the cops back when I was in college b/c I kept hearing men outside of my apartment door. I made sure to remain anonymous b/c I didn’t want any cops coming to my door in case they couldn’t locate the men and in case the men were watching somewhere. The operator said no one could come unless I provided my apt number. I was living by myself, my mom was about 15 hours away and my dad was overseas, my siblings went to different colleges in different states and my bf lived in another state. Reluctantly I provided my apt number. I watched from my bedroom window as the cops showed up and began searching the exterior of a random white van with sheets on the windows. Then they started walking towards my building. A few seconds later guess who gets a banging knock on the door?? “Police, police.” I was pissed. I opened the door and one of the cops is all loud saying they received a call from me and that they haven’t found anything. It was so stupid for them to approach my door and put me in danger. As a Black woman I already felt dumb for calling to begin w/ b/c they don’t help us, and I have literally never called for assistance from them again and even worse stuff has happened since.

Lower income neighborhoods tend to have a higher rate of crime and therefore people living there tend to be more observant and aware of their own property and their neighbors well being. While more gentrified or generally higher income neighborhoods with a low incidence crime tend to fall into complacency and are more likely to be subject to the bystander effect. Unless something is happening to them it is not their business, or they expect if there is a problem someone else will call for help. This mentality comes from the belief that 'X (eg home invasion, burglary, murder, shootings, etc) doesn't happen here'. It's strange because you would think people with more material wealth to lose would be more concerned about security but it's just the opposite.

When she heard blood curdling screams, why didn’t she call the police??? I’m sure that’s a question she’s still asking herself, but she should have rung the police. If it was that disturbing that she felt the need to go & take a photo of the truck (which at least she did), she should have rung.

Reading some of these comments from people who are complaining the neighbour didn't call the cops when she heard the scream (do you seriously think the cops are going to come out because you heard a scream) but fail to acknowledge that she did the next best thing in taking evidence of the vehicle being at the residence at the material time and led to the quick apprehension of the murderer. Social media is so full of experts, they really should offer their services to the authorities 🙄🙄🙄.
@theheirofgrace80952 жыл бұрын
Officers would have come if the operator heard the screams as well, even if they didn't...a call was made referring to a possible crime being committed and they have to respond to do a wellness check and investigate the situation. Their familiarity with the neighborhood which doesn't seem as if there is any criminal activity...would make the call a priority. I've retired from the field..at a young stress less age.

Cops have to investigate every call. They don't go just a scream? Sorry that's no interest to us, we have better things to do. What they WILL do is knock see what's happening if there's fighting they will tell one person to leave and that if they have to come back someone's getting arrested. 99% of the time they won't arrest anyone if they come back they just don't want to go back but not going in the first place just isn't an option!

To everyone saying that if the neighbor had called the police, she could've saved that woman's life. ABSOLUTELY NOT! She heard blood curdling screams, and those screams were in the heat of the moment while that woman was being killed. Unless police cars teleport they couldn't have saved her. However there's a huge chance that David would've been caught trying to remove the body and cleaning up her blood.
