Fortunately he was also recording and she ended up arrested for making a false report. It's Karen's like her that got people lynched like Emmet Till.

I was staying at a hotel for a couple of weeks. The young couple above me were ALWAYS yelling and fighting. It happened multiple times a day. Once she opened the door and yelled for help several times. There was a Mexican restaurant, a fat heads a dairy queen and a drug Mart ALL within the plaza of this hotel. I watched everyone stop and look. Cops never arrived. The amount of people who heard it is too large a number to estimate. I went up there and talked with them for about a half hour and expected a knock any second. I don't know if everyone assumed that so many people heard it that the calls would be overwhelming but no one did. She didn't actually need help thank God. But if she did she would of been so thankful to have gotten that door open thinking she was saved only for it not to happen. They were ridiculous though. She'd pack her car up drive out one entrance then pull into the other and go right back upstairs. She was so pretty and had the job he was ugly and unemployed. That shouldn't matter but I couldn't understand it. They lived in the hotel because their families had kicked them out due to the fighting. He was just a loser imp. He was all for fighting with woman but not men. Such a loser. But man that could of been a rape/kidnapping I would of held them all responsible. No! Two months ago a scorpion stung me in my sleep at 3 am in the morning. I screamed my lungs out. Not out of pain, but out of fright and the sudden realization that a scorpion was in my bed. You see, I’m an arachnophobe and I have an intense fear of spiders and scorpions. Having the cops come over at my house while I’m in that state would have made the situation worst. They would probably think I’m on drugs and try to apprehend me. I would put up a resistance in that state of mind and they would have shot me on the spot. Cops only know how to escalate the situation, instead of de-escalation. This is what turns them into the aggressors. It’s a good thing my neighbors minded their business. Instead of helping me, they would have killed me.

As much as our siblings and family may get on our nerves it’s a gift that they know us well enough to know when it’s not us texting them and immediately go on alert. In regards to the neighbor not calling the cops, as a woman she may have done it for self-preservation. She knew something was off b/c she took the pics, however getting the cops involved especially when the suspect is still onsite and it’s a female screaming is iffy. I personally have called the cops back when I was in college b/c I kept hearing men outside of my apartment door. I made sure to remain anonymous b/c I didn’t want any cops coming to my door in case they couldn’t locate the men and in case the men were watching somewhere. The operator said no one could come unless I provided my apt number. I was living by myself, my mom was about 15 hours away and my dad was overseas, my siblings went to different colleges in different states and my bf lived in another state. Reluctantly I provided my apt number. I watched from my bedroom window as the cops showed up and began searching the exterior of a random white van with sheets on the windows. Then they started walking towards my building. A few seconds later guess who gets a banging knock on the door?? “Police, police.” I was pissed. I opened the door and one of the cops is all loud saying they received a call from me and that they haven’t found anything. It was so stupid for them to approach my door and put me in danger. As a Black woman I already felt dumb for calling to begin w/ b/c they don’t help us, and I have literally never called for assistance from them again and even worse stuff has happened since.

Lower income neighborhoods tend to have a higher rate of crime and therefore people living there tend to be more observant and aware of their own property and their neighbors well being. While more gentrified or generally higher income neighborhoods with a low incidence crime tend to fall into complacency and are more likely to be subject to the bystander effect. Unless something is happening to them it is not their business, or they expect if there is a problem someone else will call for help. This mentality comes from the belief that 'X (eg home invasion, burglary, murder, shootings, etc) doesn't happen here'. It's strange because you would think people with more material wealth to lose would be more concerned about security but it's just the opposite.

The people picking on the neighbor for not calling but taking photos: have you ever been in a situation where you heard random screaming coming from nearby? If so, did you call the police?

Yes, I did, and yes I did. I believe it saved her life, too. I even got my guns (I'm a Texan. We all have guns lol) and went to see what was going on. Fortunately the police station is only about 2 blocks from our neighborhood and we're at the front so they got here in like 90 seconds. The man was trying to r*** her in her driveway after she got home from her 3-11 shift at work. It was about midnight and I was in my back yard on the patio enjoying the weather when I heard the screaming and commotion. It's not hard to dial 911 instead of taking damn pictures! Use the phone for it's intended purpose and make the call!!!

Too bad that neighbor didn't have the ethical fortitude of Shanann Watt's friend Nicole eh? Neighbor is a coward tho.. so she took pictures. *rolls eyes* If Nicole had heard screaming like that, she woulda been over there banging on the fkn door yelling her head off that cops are on the way and the guns are drawn. Man.. the apathy of people..! Allowing screaming like that just to go back to bed or get a coffee. What if that were you screaming. The staggering level of division and separation is lethal, innit. Ain't no such thing as *community* when the community around you does NOTHING when you're being murdered or kidnapped etc....

Right? I'm kicking in the window period, not waiting for cops or the killer to let me in, if it's my family I call 911 and go in. If my loved one wants they can sue me. Nicole did great but I believe NK was in that house and would've confronted her if Nicole and her son had broken the basement window and entered the house. Im happy she didn't, but that's when I decided that I would if it was my loved one.

Reading some of these comments from people who are complaining the neighbour didn't call the cops when she heard the scream (do you seriously think the cops are going to come out because you heard a scream) but fail to acknowledge that she did the next best thing in taking evidence of the vehicle being at the residence at the material time and led to the quick apprehension of the murderer. Social media is so full of experts, they really should offer their services to the authorities 🙄🙄🙄.

Officers would have come if the operator heard the screams as well, even if they didn't...a call was made referring to a possible crime being committed and they have to respond to do a wellness check and investigate the situation. Their familiarity with the neighborhood which doesn't seem as if there is any criminal activity...would make the call a priority. I've retired from the field..at a young stress less age.

Cops have to investigate every call. They don't go just a scream? Sorry that's no interest to us, we have better things to do. What they WILL do is knock see what's happening if there's fighting they will tell one person to leave and that if they have to come back someone's getting arrested. 99% of the time they won't arrest anyone if they come back they just don't want to go back but not going in the first place just isn't an option!
