I’m sorry I’m late. I waited hours for a normal cab, since I don’t use Uber. Sure, it’s convenient, but I am a considerate person and I also think of the costs I impose on society. Dead Wrong®. Find out why convenience isn’t the only benefit of ride sharing apps with Free To Choose® Media Executive Editor and Cato Institute Senior Fellow Johan Norberg.

Yes, but the taxi unions are powerful enough to stifle competition and quash any hostile services. None of this is about economics or even about Climate Change, it is politics clean and simple. I many American cities the insane licensing costs to become a public transport operator such as a cab driver are so extensive and expensive that it is very hard to get into the market. This favours larger businesses who can afford the administrative costs but destroys small or even a sole business operators. The larger businesses and unions have a vested interest in keeping people out of the market. One only need to look at how damaging the Medallion system is in America to see why the market must be opened up and competition encouraged. Fares become cheaper, more accessible to the poorest and prove a superior and more efficient service to all. It is time to relieve the shackles of lumbering of systems behind.

You are talking about regulations. Without these, anyone could start their own uber company and call it whatever they wanted. Yes, it is about economics since you PAY the government for a license. Business and unions force their agenda, which is to have everything under control, so they welcome regulations

I, of course, acknowledge there will always be a role to a degree of government in regulation. However, it is quite obvious it has become a tool for bureaucracy and a method to keeping competition out of industries either at the hands of those already in the industry or by a simple side-effect of "sounds good" governmental policy. Uber itself, for instance, does quite thorough background checks of its drivers, so it essentially self-regulated, Uber has a greater interest in keeping the business going and customers happy than a government ever could.

@@silvanabaralha8665 "Without these, anyone could start their own uber company" Yes, it is called competition. Not everyone who starts their own uber would be profitable and would have to close down shop.
