$500 for rent, pretty much anywhere in America is reasonable as all outdoors. 19 year old still has to respect basic rules of the house but can't be treated like a child anymore by the parent either in my opinion
@BlazeofGlory25612 күн бұрын
I think its a culture thing maybe? I wouldnt charge my kids rent when they turn 18 if they want to stay at my house. They can leave and get their own place, but I would not ask for rent for my own children. But everyone has different prespectives and upbringing.

Paying rent at 19 is perfectly reasonable, paying $500 in rent at 19 is completely unreasonable when ur still living at home. While u are legally a grown adult, most ppl at 18-22 are still making minimum wage or just a few dollars above that. They are no longer children anymore but nor are they yet able to take care of themselves. The middle ground is to charge them $200 - $250 so that they learn how to be responsible without being it being a heavy weight on their shoulders.

a middle ground would be to have a child pay their own bills
@adh229812 күн бұрын
@@lkhguycrazyLast I checked 19 year olds aren’t children smart guy. 🤦🏾♂️ And even if they were, what bills would they have in their name if they’re still living in their parent’s house genius? Half of them still don’t even have cars to drive so what bills are u referring to? 🤨
@lkhguycrazy11 күн бұрын
@adh2298 you live your life purposely dense, but I'll expand on my point. If you, as a parent, want to teach your child (last time I check, your offspring is your child forever) about financial responsibility, a good middle ground is to start putting bills in their name. Small bills like a cellphone plan, music streaming platforms, or groceries for the week are a good compromise rather than charging them to live with you. "Hello, sweet child of mine. I love you so much that now it costs you $250 to live with me," A1 parenting right there (that's sarcasm)
@adh22989 күн бұрын
@@lkhguycrazy So essentially what ur is the right move is to treat grown ass adults like they’re still children by having them pay the smallest, cheapest bills possible as if they shouldn’t have already been doing that at 16, 17, and 18. And u sayI’m the dense one? Lol ok buddy. Most teenagers already have themselves a part time job by the time they’re 16 / 17 which means they should already be paying their own phone bill, they should already be paying for their own streaming services that they decided to sign up for. Neither one of those things are necessities required by the parent. The only thing a parent is required to pay for is food, clothing, and shelter for a period not lasting more than 18 years. Your cellphone bill is your responsibility, that’s why it’s called YOUR cellphone, YOUR streaming service that YOU signed up for is YOUR responsibility (provided u have a job) These are things that should’ve already been taught at 16, 17, and 18 NOT 19 when they’re fully grown and should be out the house genius. And since they are fully grown, I as a parent no longer need to let them stay under my roof for free, so yes I will charge u for the food u eat, the electricity, and the water u use because u are now inconveniencing me by still being here past 18. Luckily, I’m only charging u half or in some cases EVEN LESS than half of what u would normally get charged for ur own place genius.

If u want the kid to move out why take their money? You’re prolonging the expenses when the mom could also get a smaller crib not having to house anyone.
@waynesmith774612 күн бұрын
The issue depends on the context. The kid in college? Yeah it’s unreasonable. If the kid is in trade school trying to get trained up? Yeah it’s unreasonable. I also believe if the kid is legitimately saving money to get somewhere like for a small business or a condo then I’m gonna let it be put on hold for those things to get set up.
@randomperson254013 күн бұрын
When I was 16 I instantly got a job to help my mom with the bills, that was always my intention so any time she needed money she can take it from my account, I’m pretty cheap and chill so I always had enough money for rent. To me this should be the standard for all kids before they turn 18 unless they already have a plan for adult that doesn’t sound dumb. If you’re 18 and not in college you paying rent to whatever is accurate to the house bill. It’s interesting how this isn’t universal

a child shouldnt be a parent's personal piggy bank; of course the flip side also applies, but it's a parent's resposibility to care for their child. it sounds like you grew up in extreme poverty so you have a skewed view of the world, but you should strive to create a better world rather than dragging people into yours

No 16 year old should be willingly or unwillingly helping their mom with bills. It's sad that you think that should be the norm. Also, turning 18 doesn't magically make someone an adult. Think about it... most people turn 18 before graduating high school. Throwing them out the house to fend for themselves should not be the norm and most really successful people don't do that to their kids. That's a poverty mindset and actually selfish of parents.

@@lkhguycrazy I see what you’re coming from, and the kid shouldn’t be losing all of his money. But if we are poor which I feel like it’s the case for most people there just no way going around it. I don’t understand how it makes no sense to them. If the parent were paying rent before them, they probably can pay it without them.
