Freddie Gibbs is one of my favorite rappers but I can agree with Adan. I will say Freddie at times can have some crazy bars, but when I really think about it it's moreso his flow and pockets that he can find and live in that I appreciate. Also his beat selection is immaculate which is crazy for how diverse the production he chooses can get sometimes.

The only way for Mick to get respect is to align himself with the industry’s agenda….which he clearly states he WILL NOT do. Therefore, he will always have the best “dish” in the restaurant, but the “smallest” font on the menu. The Patience 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤 Classic

Adan should come on more often, he blended in perfectly with yall and that Gibbs hot take is honestly kind of true. Gibbs doesnt have the hardest or most complex bars but he has mastered his flow, his breath control is insane. He also picks great fucking beats to rap over.

Breath control is also about mixing and editing. You hear people live that have good breath control, but it's never as good as a track, because its been edited. Lol

I thought the way Freddie flowed was absolutely elite. I haven't heard him rap like that in a minute. 5:48 -- I agree that I don't find his lyrics memorable but that isn't always important.

I think Mick Jenkins is underrated and under appreciated. The Waters was reallyyy popular and I thought he was gonna become another household name from that era like Chance became or TDE became but he didn’t. He’s always put out great work and damn can he rap, but he doesn’t have a large following like he should

I think it’s bc most people think like me and say that after the waters he hasn’t done anything that impressive at all. Pieces of a man got some good tracks here and there but a lot of the production his flows and even the subject matter just does not grip me or stand out amongst the field he’s in at all. Myke said it best he has great lyrics and schemes but there’s not much that will bring a lot of people back to his work bc there’s not much there to bring you back

@@RadicalTadpoles1000 I’m late as hell but Yea with Mick his music is for a really particular audience. I connect with him mainly because of his perspective as a black man and how he communicates different aspects of that. He’s not the only artist I feel that way about but that’s what brings me back to his music often. Side note: he makes really good night drive music and music to smoke to. With all that being said I could see how he’s not as popular, complex lyricism and songs that is clearly not trying to appeal to the masses

As someone who has Gibbs as his favorite rapper, I respect that guy’s opinion. I’ll even say that 100% agree. Freddie isn’t the best lyricist in the world. What makes Freddie work is he’s such a great combination of everything you want in a rapper in terms of his output. Great beat selection, good lyricism while being introspective at times, amazing flow So many dudes fall into a category where they have great lyrics but they’re on some dusty vinyl crate boom bap boring rap beats. On some, this can’t be bumped in the whip shit.

He did a fan Q and A where he was breaking down how he hasn't been in any of his music deals since he dropped The Waters. He said that he named he album The Patience because its the practice of being patient has been one that he wrestles with, hence the tone of aggression in this project.

I feel like it’s out of place on the track and the entire album thennn Mick follows up after him and it’s sooo slowed down from where Gibbs was just at I find that off putting, weird. Glad the Gibbs bar thing was brought up. Some rappers can give the appearance that they have bars, but when you read them or have subsequent listens, you realize it's the delivery, cadence, etc. Not necessarily things you have to think about. Freddie is pretty straightforward and works within an ababababab rhyme scheme. And he doesn't really have any complex rhymes or bars to speak of. It's his voice, delivery, and production.
