For clarity; KRS said he wasn’t doing any major event such as BET. So he never said he wouldn’t do any of them, however he selected venues and situations that allowed him to stand on business.

The difference between KRS & Hammer not performing for HipHop 50 and this is at least they spoke on it. They pointed out how it was a bunch of pandering from companies that never respected hiphop. Jay-Z doesn't care about any of that and it feels like he only cares about the culture if he can profit from it.

I'm surprised that people get annoyed, upset, surprised by Jay-Z actions. The dude is a proud capitalist, I know he has at times cosplayed as a black power representative who wants to help his people, and inspire through black excellence (god I hate that title). However if you are a capitalist to the level that Jay-Z is you can't play both roles, there is going to come a time when your morals and integrity are going to be in conflict with your pursuit of riches, If you are a capitalist with vast amounts of wealth then people are going to be exploited, those people are always poor. People need to stop investing so much in this man because he is not going to save us and just accept who he is and who he has always been.........you make your mind up who you believe that man is. Jay found a way to try and give Hip Hop a voice when most believed it to be dead. No other former rapper jas reached back and done ehat he has done for the hip hop community and frankly he should stop amd enjoy his family and money and let all of those critic's figure it out by themselves.

Bro, Jay-Z a billionaire he don't need to "tap dance" for nobody especially when he's richer than prob everyone in that place. He did what he wanted to do and it has nothing to do with race, or selling out because that mf is rich. Yeah sure the "politically correct" thing is to show love to Hip-Hop community, but political correctness is just another way of saying you have to do X, or else. Jay-Z is at a point where he doesn't have to do sh*t, he does what he wants.

This is a little cable newish of a topic. There was plenty of rappers that are legends or on their way that didn’t perform last year. Rappers perform for private events all the time at their discretion. Also how do we measure selling out, by number of things you do, by let down of your culture or by public of opinion of people who are upset and loud. Selling out is about forgetting who you are or what made you and/or putting your people down to move ahead.

Wow I hate to say it but I agree Jay-Z definitely has sold out but let’s think about the dynamics of this conversation, what else’s can he do he’s done everything and now he’s morphed into a whole new person and let’s face it most of his fans are in their 50’s and 60’s and given the state of the world that we live in is it safe for him I mean if he decided to do a tour most of us are going to his concerts and you guys make a great point, when I think about it. But how many of our rap icons don’t do tours anymore LL, Run DMC, minus Jam Master Jay, Wu- Tang Gang, I mean is it safe, But again I’m from Philly and I have to shout out The Roots for hosting venues in the park. You guys made a great point ? Keep up the good work.

Jay-Z in many regards has transcended past Hip-Hop. He is in an elite club with Warren Buffet and the Obamas. He has been business partners with major corporations Samsung, NFL, and Bacardi. He won't show up for a museum exhibition dedicated to Hip-Hop, but will have an entire library dedicated to himself. He won't celebrate something that is bigger than himself (Hip-Hop 50, 50 years of Hip Hop performances and events), and doesn't want to perform with the legends that came before him, but will show up for the Academy Awards to receive a lifetime achievement award and spit his 80+ verse at the very same show. Act like he is riding with Kaepernick to work for the NFL and perform for Tom Brady. Shawn Carter put elitism and commerce before culture long ago!
