Why settle for just a single bloom when you can have multiple if you deadhead shasta daisies. In this video, I show you what to look for and how to deadhead when that first flush of flowers begins to fade. You and the pollinators will be happy you deadheaded the daisies!
Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.

As always, thanks for your support and I'll see you in the garden!

I have DaisyMae Shasta daisies. Last year I deadheaded like you showed but not a one of those buds grew into a flower. What went wrong? The first year I planted the daisies they were in flower in May. I deadheaded them and they did flower again. The next year when I deadheaded in mid July, it seemed like they just didn't have enough time to develop. The veronica grew more flowers easily, but not the daisies. I have some blue salvia that didn't even wait for me to deadhead. It just started growing a new crop of buds when the old flowers were starting to dry up.

I have Daisy May in another part of the garden and in the three years they’ve been there, they’ve never flowered after deadheading. Which is why I’ll be taking them out this fall and trying something different. If you’re fertilizing after the first flower, use a balanced fertilizer with a 10-10-10 ratio. If that first number (Nitrogen) is higher than the other two, you’ll get more foliage and fewer flowers.

Omg. How do you get the Shasta banana cream daisies to rebloom?!? … I deadhead the same way and there are so many buds , but they fail to open and rebloom with exception of maybe a few. Should I feed once there are no open blooms or what’re more ? I really love the blooms they just don’t seem to last very long 😢

Great question! They certainly aren’t as prolific as the Becky’s. Even after deadheading, they can be slow to rebloom. Have you tried watering them well? Are you fertilizing? If so, if the nitrogen ratio is too high you’ll sacrifice blooms for foliage.
