This is based on a real thing that happens in the US. There are notorious camps like this in the 90s which were at best scams and at worst cults. Honestly looks like one of the people who went to one made a movie.

@@jbear3478Some were worse than others. Military school is harsh but not deadly and most graduates attribute their success to the strict boarding schools. I'm speculating that Dr Phil used things like that but i actually have no idea. I don't know about all military or boarding schools either.

It seems so easy to avoid a scam... 1) Ask for a list of graduates. If they refuse: scam or cult, 2) Call up graduates and ask them what they think of it. If they say it turned them around etc, great. If they have anything overall negative to say then either it didn't work or is a scam etc., either way pass.

Paris Hilton went to a place like this. She has come out and spoken against it. Clearly it never actually worked and really screwed her up and she didn’t actually settle down until she was almost 40. She’s still traumatised by what happened.
