Guys I just wanted to drop by to say thanks for all your “Pillars” series. I’ve recently watched the ones on squat and deadlift and I can honestly say they were incredibly helpful- I wish I’d known this stuff years ago. They’re delivered in such a straightforward, no-nonsense and easy to understand way that they’re a delight to watch. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

I can't remember who said it but the best cue I've heard for lock out is "fuck the bar".
@JuggernautTrainingSystems
@JuggernautTrainingSystems 6 жыл бұрын
JamieBones i tend to see that cue leading to unnecessary hyper extension at the finish
@jamiebones3419
@jamiebones3419 6 жыл бұрын
Juggernaut Training Systems Yeah I can see that point. It may just be a be a cue that helped me personally but I'm a big dude and 6'3" and an over exaggerated extension at lockout is quite hard to do without losing balance. I like the way the video shows lockout though, kind of stay over the bar not behind it.
@JI77469
@JI77469 5 жыл бұрын
Any thoughts on "fucking the bar" but being strict with flexing your glutes and quads at the top? For me at least, this puts an immediate "brake" on any exaggerated hyperextension (and I'm a little dude, 5'7). I even find it hard to deliberately hyperextend my back if I do an aggressive "hump" motion with no weight and then flex my glutes and quads at the top. Maybe this only works at the low weights I do (275lbs for a set of 7ish), or maybe this just works for me. Anyway just my anecdotal thoughts.

Sounds like a good cue for the lockout would be similar to snatch, at least that worked for me - you want to drive the bar directly up, not pull it to your body or swinging it away. Just your whole body pursues the upwards direction (which coincidentally happens by extending legs and hip, arms just keeping it tight to the body).

Excellent series. Very technical but explained with brilliant clarity and demonstrated perfectly by Marisa. I noted from an earlier pillar, the exhale then partial inhale at the bottom of the movement to create tension immediately before commencing the lift. Do you then hold that air and exhale next when locked out at the top?
@JuggernautTrainingSystems
@JuggernautTrainingSystems 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, hold it throughout execution of the lift.

Great stuff as always. Can locking out to late make you lift more with your lower back than with your glutes and hamstrings?

Is the way Marisa lowered the bar optimal? Some other coach (can't remember who) taught that when lowering the bar you should hinge at the hips first, and unlock knees only when the bar has passed them. Marissa unlocks knees early and hits her thighs with the bar on the way down.
