I really hope this is the energy of the original Team fortress project where they were in the drawing stage trying to figure out game mechanics, but instead the game is created modern game mechanics and art styles but with the same commitment to a fun gameplay feedback loop we all strangely are familiar with. I know so many want a team fortress 3, but then again if we always got a quake 3 4 5 6 and so on, we would have never gotten Half-life, and if we never had half life we never would have gotten team fortress 2, so this is a important part of the game development process. Just hope the lessons to game design they learned as a collective dev team at valve carrys over to this new game, and its been so long that hopefully it isnt just lessons from dota, but from many other places such as the creation of team fortress and left 4 dead, but heres hoping.

Wonderfully Put Comment, but Quake is not a Valve Property, Half-Life was Valve's first game, I can see where the confusion comes from due to Half-Life's Engine [GoldSrc] being a modified version of the Quake engine, but Valve only received a license from id Software [The Creators of Quake]

My point was that regardless of who makes what, if we repeat success and we don’t improve and iterate on new projects, we are contained by a format previously set by older projects. Call of duty would have been a better example. There’s many folks that work for treyarch that have reported being tired of making call of duty games. I was job searching and discovered this stated multiple times on different career sites like glass door.

@@KiegKillsReality Nah, in 2018 this was still a game in the Half Life universe, it was reffered to as Citatel back then. I think the shift in style was pretty recent. I don't think it looks bad. We think it looks generic because we have absolutely zero context about the setting, the characters etc so our brains fill in these blanks resulting in seeing similarities to other games. The only thing we see is literally some of the visuals and basic gameplay principles. 95% of the game is still a mystery to us.

I completely agree, I think that in concept, this game is a potential cash grab. It literary is in concept a ripoff. I have no idea how will they make the depth of characters, because there's like more than 14 and it's gonna be really hard to make each one of them unique. Literally looks like 3rd person overwatch lol. Looks neat though. Not a huge fan of the DOTA art style personally but it’s very valve so it doesn’t feel out of place. Whether it sees any traction who knows. Hero based games have been done to death so unless valve brings something new to the table, it might just get lost in the shuffle. Also love the way you use rails to get around the map. Very bioshock infinite.

Fair point but the way Valve works makes it so that different people are responsible for this game than for developing CS2. So it's not like VAC or CS2 are getting shafted because of Deadlock.

This could be one of the reasons why some of these updates for CS2 are bundled in a huge update and anything in between are just small bug fixes due to having the bare minimum of devs working on it.

The map's artstyle reminds me of TF2 while the hero designs look very Dota-like. I'd rather it stays that way. Other than the buildings and a few of the hero's cosmetics looking kinda close to the TF2 art style and the fact that there are different classes or "Heros", It doesn't resemble tf2 in the slightest. I really hope they go in a different direction than another hero shooter with this project. It's just such a beaten down category of gaming. And thanks to OW2 being such a dumpster fire, hero shooters aren't looked upon very highly right now and prob would get hate if another dropped. If they don't, this will probably be forgotten relatively quickly. But this is Valve we are talking about, so I have a little hope.

This game can actually be great, for multiple reasons : - It is not really competing with valve's other games (maybe only tf2, which is abandoned already anyways) , it is aiming towards a different and new crowd, expanding its portoflio in different genres -This blend of MOBA elements with a shooter is not actually common. Games like Paragon/Predecessor , Smite have nothing on the shooter aspect, and are very much traditional mobas with a 3rd person view. Deadlock looks much much less traditional with its own unique twists. Only close game I can think of would be Super Monday Night Combart, but its again, also much different. -This might be the ONLY Valve Game that can be played well and smoothly BOTH ON PC AND STEAM DECK. But also with controllers. Just imagine enjoying cs2, dota2 with controllers/steam deck : IMPOSSIBLE. People need a competitive multiplayer game playable on the Steam Deck -The true power of this game made by Valve when comparing it to any other non-valve game which has even a small element in common is the WORKSHOP AND COMMUNITY FEATURES. Just imagine an overwatch where you can make your own fucking assets , game modes, maps, trading system, all extra experiences that give are a BIG reason for counter strike's popularity in the first place. The Valve factor can honestly be a game changer in ANY game they decide to make in comparison to many other developers, specifically because of this type of community infrastructure. (Lets remember that Dota2 has many of these things as well, so there is no reason to think that Deadlock wont). - This moba meets shooter dynamic will probably be their main game mode, but this type of game and character design looks like it can be very versatile for many other modes. Some modes like king of the hill , payload, capture points,single lane brawl mode, etc.... This game by design looks like it lends itself well for all these modes and some more. And lets not forget the community factor I talked about earlier.

This whole project seems like it was made by A.I.... something is seriously fishy. Either this is a pet project from a few employees at valve and nothing official valve ever intends to complete and release... or there's HUGE shenanigans at play, like valve trolling everybody by experimenting with a.i. generated video game assets and design concepts that new employees then flesh out as a creative exercise, then "leaking" it for fun because it's neat enough to be worth leaking. I just don't believe this, it's too fishy... it's too NOT Valve...

It's not that it LOOKS rough, it's that CONCEPTUALLY it seems like it was outputted by ai instead of a team of extremely well-paid and highly experienced artists and game designers at Valve. Even Artifact was leaps and bounds ahead of these concepts for its game foundations and setting.

It doesn't work this way. There are different people at Valve working on this game than on CS2. Valve is structured in such way where devs choose freely what they want to work on. Nobody at Valve is forced to walk away from other project to work on something like Deadlock. So in short, it wouldn't change a thing because the CS2 team is separate to the Deadlock team.
