This episode was inspired by the 2001 mauling death of Diane Alexis Whipple. The dogs' owner was high-ranking member of the Aryan Brotherhood, who was serving three life sentences, and were looked after by his attorneys who were a husband and wife.

Yeah I noticed that in a lot of shows with "aggressive" dogs you can tell from their body language they're very happy and playful, they're just clearly dubbing over them to sound more aggressive.

They’re trained to do what’s needed for a take but it can be hard to hide how happy they are to do it. Sometimes, they gotta CGI dog tails to hide the happy wagging.

@@jennifercrandon7942 from some behind the scenes stuff i've seen the dog needs to be fairly smart and then they're given cues when to start acting and when to stop. one hand signal for instances means 'bear your teeth and growl' and then another hand signal means stop. lots of treats and affirmation later you have a canine actor

This episode makes me sad because of how the Pitbull was raised and trained. People look at Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans,etc, and they think of Aggressive Dog. But it's not the Dog's true nature, it's how people raise. You train it right you get it used to sounds and different people, the Pitbull will be like a Big Teddy Bear. But Narcos, junkies and Sick people who like to see dogs kill each other in fights they train them to be monstrous killing machines, not to mention they like to pump Pitbulls with Steroids just to make them more Aggressive.

He only ever got riled if you theeatened his master or someone who couldn't defebd themselves. He also didn't like people in uniform. A couple of years back it went around that people were stealing elderly dogs to basically be used as bait for fighter dogs and the thought of something like that happening to my elder dog brings me to tears. Almost all rapists and murders got their start when they were children by mistreating and torturing pets... their own or someone else's. As someone who use to work as a vet tech, this breaks my heart in so many ways. I know this is fiction, but dog fighting is very real & not a victimless crime. You take domesticated animals & train them to ki||, & that says nothing about the others dogs. The pricks who train the fighters can’t have them actually getting hurt before a real fight, but they have to build up their confidence. So, they take small & submissive animals & throw ‘em in. They’re called Baiting Dogs. Some will even declaw them & file down their teeth (if not remove them) just to make sure the fighter can’t get hurt. Those dogs don’t last long. I’m sad to say I’ve seen former baiting dogs who managed to either escape or survive to be freed. Some were covered in scars that never healed, & I remember one who had nerve damage in her paws. And that “vet” is a disgrace. No true vet could ever participate in such barbaric acts. Vets are bound by patient confidentiality, however, they can get animal control involved if they suspect dog fighting. The same person brings the same animals in over & over again for the exact same wounds, you will get suspicious.

Funny you should mention baiting animals - there's another episode (clips of it are on this channel) where dog fighting leads to a murder inquiry, as a human finger is found inside one of the dogs. The only reason they find the fight in the first place is one of the stolen bait animals had a microchip, and the owners found where it was.

Was devastating when he was dognapped, but they found him some time later on, though it was clear he'd been used in fights. I don't know if was month or years because memory plays time tricks, but thankfully he was largely okay, and didn't lose his sweet demeanor.

Anyone with a pit bull is an idiot. Yeah..sweet dog..yeah right up until they aren’t. Did you know that home owners insurance as well and any property insurance prohibits having such dogs on the property….any of these aggressive dogs…sweet or other wise. Know why? Because insurance companies are really good at knowing where the high risk is and avoiding it. Does your landlord know you have that dog? Be prepared to be evicted…and with very good cause. No court will stop that eviction. Stop trying to tell people that they are sweet dogs…they are not. They a bred for one purpose..and have been bred for that purpose for so long and these dogs are all a genetically selected breed for aggression.

​@@deborahschumann8286pits aren't the problem, humans are. I've helped rehab fighting dogs. Most stay dog aggressive, some to the point where yes, the needed to be put down. Some can be retrained. I've been bitten many times, but its not the dog's fault for reacting, it's the humans that came before who turned a happy puppy into a monster.

@@deborahschumann8286 when you adopt them as puppies it’s a different story. Animals learn from humans, I successfully befriended 3 feral cats and was able to teach them how to love again. I had help from my long dead pit bull I named Frank the tank. Frank loved cats and I found him sleeping with several of them over the years. I was 14 when I adopted Frank as a puppy. He was ok with my family but had a special connection to me. I had him leashed but he never tugged off or pulled on me, I loved him and he treated me like the alpha. I believe that everything deserves a chance even a pit bull. I hope one day you get to find out yourself. It’s been 9 years since Frank left me, I adopted out 2 of his cats to friends but I kept the 6 month old kitten he was teaching. Tux is going to be 11 this year and I still see subtle bits of Frank’s personality in him. I still miss Frank, raise anything with love and compassion and you’ll be surprised

Two things: One: that dog is clearly having fun with his acting career, but has such a hard time staying in character that the sound techs end up having to dub in lots of snarling. On a show as usually high-quality as L&O, the clear dubbing is hilarious to me. Who's a good actor? Who's a good ferocious beast? You are! Two: so the defense is pinned on the idea that the dog is not normally vicious, but was provoked? Um, did they REALLY think the prosecution wouldn't check that? That seems like such a simple defense to torpedo, and that's the best you got? You can tell at the end that the judge is out of patience with this whole thing, but is more annoyed at the idiot entitled couple than he is at McCoy's usual stuntwork.

A professionally trained personal protection dog will set you back at least $35,000. The dog is raised in a home as a puppy, socialised, goes to puppy classes and has to pass the gold standard Kennel Club canine good citizen. Only after that will protection training start. The training takes 2 years. But you have a wonderful dog that's will be gentle with children,be a wonderful companion as well as a loyal protector. Buying a dog that looks tough and has been trained to attack only is very dangerous, you have no off switch. At the end of the day, this couple knew the dog was dangerous, didn't call an ambulance for the woman or get the other dog to vet to at least see if it could be saved or humanely euthanized. This makes them guilty of manslaughter, 2-6 years in prison should be considered a gift. Manslaughter can carry a life sentence.

Please upload more scenes from this episode! This is one of my favorite episodes because they don’t fully blame the dog for what happened. They blame the humans who handled and trained the dogs/dog to kill. Bad dogs are not born, they are made. And if you notice how the woman talks about the dog compared to others. She calls the dog - it or a good animal. I’m a owner of 4 dogs. And I never once call any of them ‘it or animal’. Not once even when mad at them destroying one of their toys or messing with anything they shouldn’t in the house or yard at all. Just the way the woman alone speaks of the dog shows that her and her husband were never truly the owner of the dog like they say they were. They did crime and knew what they were doing. The sad thing is, some people buy attack dogs. Then they buy the service dog harnesses, and take them out for walks. If the dog growls and or bites anyone, they claim that the dog is a service dog and is only protecting the owner. In reality, trained service dogs do NOT bark, growl, or bite. They are trained NOT to do so, and to help the owner. If you see a dog that's aggressive with a service dog harness, call the police immediately. Also helps to take a photo of the dog in question, incase the owner flees the area with said dog.

That’s such bullshit, I can’t believe that some people would actually do that. Service dogs are supposed to stay 100% focused on their owner and they NEVER show any aggression. The only time a service dog is ever supposed to approach a stranger is when their owner is in immediate danger and needs help. Service dogs go under several months of rigorous training, and if they’re too playful, easily distracted or aggressive then they’re not qualified to become a service animal. Sadly though not a lot of people know much about how service dogs are supposed to behave, probably because they haven’t been around a lot of them.

Kinda happened in France. A couple got a pitbull while it was illegal in France (they went to another country). The women was found in the woods scalped and mauled to death. She was also pregant... The husband was trying to save his dog and accused the hunting dogs. She was indeed close and probably met the huntings dogs... however, the investigation showed the viciouseness of the couple's dog. Officially the dog was not a pitbull but once they discovered it was, they saw the couple was fascinated by this type of dog and trained it to bit and mauled objects (which is a banned training for civilians). The dog was prey driven. What happened is that they trained a dog to bite and once it heard the huntings dogs it wanted to go to them, which the woman tried to prevent. The result was that it frustrated the dog and it attacked the pregnant woman... The bottomline is those dogs are dangerous but they are turned to weapons by people that think they have control while they don't...the terrible thing is the husband took no ownership in what happened and they had other buff dogs like the one that murdered his wife and child to be born...(it was also dumb to ask the lady to walk such powerful dog in her condition...)

I recall the case this was based on. The Diane Whipple death. It was so horrific, they had to clean up the story for TV. The dogs were Presa Canarios, much bigger and more dangerous than pit bulls. The lawyer couple were helping the Nazis because it gave them a thrill. The female lawyer was committing bestiality with the male dog, and sending pics to her clients in prison.

I feel the intense need to remind people that pits tend to be calm and loving unless they are abused a great deal. I had a one eyed pit that wanted nothing but love and closeness despite being abused and dumped in a trash can. Unfortunately I had to give it to the Humane Society since it kept breaking out during the day to play with the apartment complex kids. They all loved it.

If a thunderstorm (unexpectedly) rolled in and her parents weren’t home, she’d escape their yard. After the first time, maybe two, that we were the ones to get her into our yard then house, she learned to come to us in such situations. So I would sometimes be on the couch, doing kid things (reading, gaming, homework, watching the TV), and I would look over through the glass back door, and see her standing there, staring half-blindly in. “Come on in, ya poor thing, let’s get you dried off.”

Absolutely.ANY dog can made to be aggressive,it’s just unfortunate that because they were bred to be powerful so that when they are they do become incredibly dangerous.they weren’t just breeding them to be powerful though they were also bred to be eager to please so that they would be more receptive to their masters and therefore much easier to train and shape into whatever was desired because the dog just wanted to make their owner happy,master wants them to be aggressive and treats them as such they become aggressive to appease it.or maybe their master wants them to be their best friend ,protector and loving companion?well ,good news,they are already predisposed to be and will seek that in anyway that the master dictates regardless.unfortunately though while stupid people exist there will be a bias against this sort of dog because of those who,abuse the afore mentioned quantities for a status symbol or sport. I have had 2 rescue bully’s,1 of which was abused and isolated for her entire life before being left at the shelter and despite that she quickly adapted to a loving home and learned the behaviours we wanted to see and those we didn’t,she never hurt /threatened us,ever,even when she had a painful brain tumour.the other was an old boy on his way out and despite many health issues and pain still never even growled.they are the most loving ,soft little teddy bears of dogs I’ve ever met and truly seem to spend their existence trying to please us. People are looking at the wrong end of the lead.dogs were bred to do a lot of things in the past,it dosent mean they are automatically destined to do that job or task when they are born ,they were bred for certain qualities,not certain careers.

I remember this episode. IT'S NOT THE DOG that is the problem. It's the owners, or in this particular case, it is the fact that the owners are lawyers who bought the dog from their convict client who was training these dogs to fight. My brother had 2 pitbulls, and I had a doberman pinscher, who sadly are no longer with us and were lovable and very protective lumps. I would call them lumps cause they'd sit on my foot or my clumsy a** would trip over them. I currently have a 5 year old pit/american bulldog mix and a 15 month old beagle girl. The dog is a saint and very protective. Even for tolerating the puppy's behavior. It burns him out, but I know he cares about the pup despite her foolishness.

Judges dont like stunts but in this case the judge saw what mc coy was getting at and that the defence metaphorically opened the door by claiming it was a moment of madness and not the vicious killer the prosecution claimed it was.
