So their entire plan hinged on Alex 1) Seeing Maggie 2) Being attracted to her 3) Having the nerve to go talk to her 4) Not giving up and 5) Getting stalkery enough to persuade her?
@NestorCaster4 жыл бұрын
All of which was independent of the inevitable gaslighting Maggie and Jack would have to do only after Alex first meets Maggie... it’s not meant to be anything else but entertaining nonsense, yet has enough rationale to make it worth watching(which in itself is nothing special, but after second and third thoughts, is very similar to gothic and noir based story elements, especially in 30s and 40s films-- maybe even directly inspired by them). I honestly don’t mind the twist, it just the nonsense makes me question, how the hell does Maggie get so enraged at Alex (and by extension Jack), of all ppl, and blame him and his brother for the death of her father... especially, since HER FATHER was the killer and tried to kill Alex(and innocent kid like her) in his own home, and chased after him, scarring him for life. It makes sense only if you put your own logic into it; like, she developed such a vendetta, that she uses Alex(a victim of attempted murder and witness to the brutal murders of both his parents, that gave him lifelong PTSD-- which actually can explain his obsessiveness, in his stalker-ish actions towards Maggie), as collateral damage, to get her revenge, and or to lull Jack into a false sense of security. However It’s the level of laughable and entertaining evil pettiness that makes horror films like this cult classics; it’s the “don’t think too hard” and “sh*t happens” which are basic the motivations for Alex’s murder(and again, by extension, Jack’s murder too)-- which in my mind are the same plots elements that are reminiscent of Tales From the Darkside and or Tales from The Crypt

I suddenly dredged this movie out of oblivion watching your review which was one of the funniest yet. I guess was a bit too young to get this movie at the time with the deadly dreams recurring over and over. I just wanted the guy in the wolf mask to kill a lot of people, but I blame that on being brainwashed by Friday the 13th, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street etc. etc. Excellent review and I had a couple of good laughs as well!

Holy Fuck, all this time, for over 15 years or more, I've always thought this movie was called "Deer Hunter" and the ending scared the shit out of me. Not my fault for thinking it was "Deer Hunter", the killer had a "Deer" looking Mask on :0 Every time, I hear the movie "Deer Hunter' pop up, I would always remember this scene. I was 13 or younger when I watched about the last half of the movie. Thank you, this has been quite a nostalgic revelation for me.

This could've been the Donnie Darko of horror. I think Wes Craven could've done a better job with it if given the shot. Well..since there's a huge twist. This could be the movie that get's Shymalan back into the good graces of Hollywood.
