I live in Des Moines and have lived in Iowa all my life. I experienced the Jordan tornado as a child but was terrified beyond rational thought. Videos like yours were what told me that rumbling I was hearing was NOT thunder anymore. I am exceptionally fortunate as it was a mile east of me - which still blows me away how much I could hear with it that far away- but our friends in Winterset lost absolutely everything - their home & outbuildings were wiped clean from their foundations. Thank you for your videos, please remain safe, & love & comfort to those who lost loved ones.

I live in Winterset, and this was definitely one of the scariest things I've ever experienced. My Dad and I were standing out on our porch trying to get an idea as to where it was. I pointed at some clouds to the west and we both started watching what we thought was the tornado. Meanwhile to the south west we heard this loud roaring that my dad assumed was thunder, and I thought was just a stream of wind. After about two minutes we realized that the clouds we saw were not the tornado, and infact it was the roaring that was getting closer. We all ran to the basement and the second we got down there, the power went out and the wind got heavier. We were lucky to have avoided it, but if that thing moved just a quarter mile east, I don't know what would have happened. Never in my 12 year living here have I experienced a storm that terrifying.

I was standing on a buddy's back porch just south of the bypass right off 65/69 as it ripped thru and we watched it cross over the bypass into the south side.... It was fucking insane! But honestly could have been SOOOO MUCH worse. It went just barely south of those huge neighborhoods and trailer park along county line road right behind earl may.... And if you take the bypass around towards carlisle/Pleasanthill right after the army post exit on the riggt side yoy can see the clear path it too kright thru the farm there and the tree look like someone took a mower and mowed just the tops off all the trees, as well as where the barn was... The tornado went not even 100 feet behind that farm house, wiped the barn out in the back yard and spit it all over the bypass in the median and the field on the other side.... This is the 3rd tornado I've witnessed here in almost 30 years and this one was by far the closest/scariest one we've had

I love watching tornado videos. I’m fascinated by them. I live in Des Moines , IA. What gets me is how causal our area was about this whole thing. No helicopters. (Like in OKC) Also we got about a 2-3 hour warning in total from watch to touchdown. Over the weekend it was their might be some storms .... And my favorite radio station , espn radio , 106.3 locally kept repeatedly apologizing that they couldn’t air the girls basketball as if that was more important that their was a serious storm heading into or close to the metro area. This could of been so much worse. The awareness overall was poor. Yet this professional team from Texas somehow decided it was worth it to travel to Iowa this weekend. Interesting 🤔

Not sure what you mean. I don't even live in Iowa anymore and I was very aware of the potential for these storms. I saw stuff on social media from several Des Moines stations that I still follow about severe storm potential on Saturday in the *days* leading up to it telling people to be weather aware. I was live streaming KCCI's live coverage before the tornado even hit Winterset. If I was catching what I did from those sources without even having access to the normal newscasts from any of the channels, I can't believe that it wasn't broadcast better there. If you want piss poor coverage, come to Canada, where they won't even break into regular programming because the station isn't even staffed half the time and the warnings Environment Canada gives are so generic (we're talking the equivalent of the size of 3-4 Iowa counties large warnings without useful directional information and extremely low quality radar) that they're absolutely useless. KCCI had better technology back in the mid-90s.

I live in marshalltown, IA and we had a tornado back in 2018 that took my entire attic and roof. My sister tried waking me up as I was sleeping while the sirens were going off I was up late the night prior and I just remember telling her I didnt wanna get up and tornadoes never strike us here but loan behold lol next thing I know I can feel the wind blowing against my bedroom window and I could just feel and hear the roaring winds right outside my house and right then I got my lazy tired ass up off the bed I was running through my house while it was happening, I open my bedroom door and directly across the hall was the attic door and I just remember seeing it fly open and seeing the stormy sky for a split second before turning and running all the way downstairs through the living room with glass and debris flying everywhere and seeing my windows all around me busting open, glass hitting me in the face and i finally manage to get to the basement, my sisters bawling holding our little dog I hold her until the destruction and the storm finally passed. We had no way to get out all the doors were blocked by debris and the house next door had a gas leak after also being hit badly and all I could hear were people outside yelling if anyone was inside and that we needed to get out now. They managed to help us climb thru the back window in my kitchen and climbed our way out of the house. it took my entire roof and attic with it, my Garage was nothing but a pile of debris and our front porch caved all the way in and so the house was unlivable, we had insurance and now still live here in marshalltown but in a nicer house and everybody got out okay with nothing but a little trauma but now I take tornadoes and storms very seriously. Braindead. Including distraction on that one. It boggles my mind how people can drive completely ignoring whats more than 10 yards infront of their bumper and EVERYTHING else be damned "I didn't see it" some nitwit plowing through a 4 way into the side of a semi....

They thought it was great to get a few treats every few minutes, which of course kept them down there! I was spared, but I want to offer my sympathies and loving thoughts and prayers to ALL and ANY affected by this horrible storm. Isn't it something that the very One who brings us the most beautiful rainbows also brings us these scary disasters? Yet, I pray that He will take care of all of us.
