+TheBlashMusic Usually those who tell the truth are labeled as 'assholes', or a 'dick', or 'prick', or whatever, b.c the truth HURTS. It's brutal even if put gently. But if it's not told, it'll still reveal itself one way or another.... it's a manifestation process...

bloodstainDew You beat me to it. Granted most people won't know him just by the name Gerard Way. At best that gets the Emo kid's ears to pop up. If you say, "The lead singer of, 'My Chemical Romance,' " then people freak out. Either way, it DEFINITELY wasn't a sell out, it's one of Joel's best tracks. It wasn't a publicity stunt, heck, making songs that are very fitting of the term, "Hybrid-Genre," rarely ever is a sell out. Like Crystal Castles or Caravan Palace. If anything it makes them LESS popular.

Skrillex is just a guy who wants to make money.. Not music, when he first started out he created something new. One album and a EP and that was it. Before he all of this he played in a successful band, but as most artists, they want to make money and not create art.. Sadly Skrillex is just an ass that cares only for money. D5 is the man.. It took alot of experimenting though. I recall skrillex saying he made more versions of this song than any he made before that the time, showing that he cared, considering it would be his biggest collaboration and release ever. Knowing that skrillex is known just as well for his vocal manipulation in ableton as his growls and choppy 'Justice' like producing, it's not much of a surprise him and Diplo came up with the high pitched chorus hook with Justin's voice. It wasn't supposed to be that intense or explosive in energy, it's was supposed to be an original vibe pop song which they fulfilled perfect. I personally thought the song could have a bridge and a better outro being a fan of complex song structure (makes every song better), but keeping it short was great for radio play publicity.

He forgot to mention the "very expensive" sounds which was just ridiculous.. I actually like the Beiber track but I take Joel's point that he thought they could do better. he knows his shit, but dubstep started in the grime scene in the UK in 1998ish. When skrillex showed his album in 2010 dubstep had already evolved into what we call dubstep now, its just skrillex did a slightly, yet revolutionary form of dubstep that brought it to the US chat attention. This stuff was happening way before in the UK so the US and Canada was way behind.

I think the fact that Justin got to work with Skrillex (and Diplo) for "Where are you now" and "Sorry" contributed much more to his carrier, than to theirs. Hence, the "who got money and relevance" argument is irrelevant for me. They are artists, they can do whatever they want with their carrier. Were these two records huge? Yes. Did people jam to them? Even if JB's stuff is better than before, it's still no big deal tbh. Skrillex just helped with production, and it's no surprise it made JB's music better. You don't have to be "that good" to make JB's music "better". Obviously I'm not saying that I can do it or anything like that. But when it comes to professional producers, what Skrillex's doing is no big deal. I don't hate him, I just think his new stuff isn't good enough to stand out in any way. But hey, that's cool that Skrillex kinda revived Bieber's fame. Good for him.

People are too swayed by ego - this deadmau5 guy is clearly unsure and uncomfortable about what Skrillex is doing and taking it quite personally, regardless of what a cool facade he is presenting himself in.

When it released I had the same perspective, but 8 years later, after becoming a music producer, and after watching the mini-doc about the song, I think this is such an ignorant take. Justin was the one who started the process, they did multiple drops until the found the right one. I imagine if this was a song released by a new singer and artists at the scene... It would get that kind of hate.

I still like Sonny, however I fully agree that his ways have changed and not entirely for the better. I also notice Sonny isn't as happy as he used to be when he makes music. he's changing himself to please people. He's trying to make everyone like him, I see so many people do this, even i do it in some situations, but it breaks my heart to see him taking this sort of turn. it would be different were it not for the fact that he isn't as happy with what hes doing. You can tell he's just trying to please other people.

+Cole Ballantyne pretty much every mainstream house DJ. Bassnectar is pretty much one of the few DJs that actually play live sets and actually puts effort into producing his music. The likes of Hardwell and Tiesto don't do shit except just push play and wave their hands around, I can't even consider that real music and they bring great shame to the art of producing electronic music and DJing

Completely understand where he's coming from.skrillex used to be the thing.now all of his stuff sounds the same.dont get me wrong I love both of these artist but, people shouldn't say he's being rude to skrillex.he just knows skrillex is more capable of doing better.

What he said its kinda true but Justin is the one who went to them and ask if they can make the song more better...sooo they work with the song and create a sick beat...soo I don't see anything wrong with being that Justin Bieber is asking them to create the song better he just want to do something more different and see what they can produce .......btw THIS IS JUST MY OPINION PLSS DON'T ARGUE WITH MEE.

It's because the little shit stain Bieber wanted to tap into the EDM market. He has attempted to pollute our sacred genre of Bass music and Dubstep. Bieber will never touch Bass music or dubstep. I really couldn't care less about Skrillex. He honestly isn't even that good anyway but it's what Bieber attempted to do by trying to destroy our genre

I disagree. Seeing Justin Bieber in that collab completely surprised me. Why? Beacause he's a fucking joke. He's super talented, nothing to say about that, and yes, I know he only sings he does'nt write his own songs and stuff, but still, he got off to such a bad start, he was litterally a meme.. I think he got in that collab beacause skrillex and Diplo believed in him to be better than we might think, and that was a hit for me. I never thought I'd say this, but thanks to sunny's help through where are u now and sorry, I've become a Justin Bieber fan. And yes, they made mega bucks on those hits, bit I think that was just the benefit of a awesome original collab .

He is speaking the truth. But I don't get why he hate Skrillex working with biebs. I mean everyone does it. All the pop stars work with good producers these days. The reason we don't know them is because they are not famous. They are only famous in producing business. Skrillex is famous in the edm world. That is why we know that Skrillex produced some songs in jb's album.

Just because all of the Pop Stars are working with big producers does not make it "valid" to work with just the big people. At the end of the day, it all comes down to quality. Now if I was a producer, I would rather work with those who I admire rather than just them having a "well known name."

Shivprakash Narayan he just explained it. He says he thinks there are better singers out there, but he thinks Skrillex collabed with Bieber because it basically guaranteed a huge amount of sales, whether it was good or not. He's basically saying "ok whatever good for you for landing a collab with Bieber the cash cow, but I'm not going to credit you as a DJ for this because you're using the biggest mainstream artist."
@NympoGaming

I don't know what am I to say to this guy. Although he might be very well known and a top DJ I don't think he's correct here. First: 1.Dubstep is built on reggae bass lines and beat, even till this day. Of course there are many exceptions to this rule but even in a lot of Skrillex songs you can find that component. And I'm talking about his "dubstep" songs, not the glitch hop this guy refers to. Without reggae there wouldn't have been dubstep. 2.One more thing that shows this dude is just talking to kill time, without even thinking is the fact he said dubstep was D&B - half tempo :D Drum and bass uses the so - called breakbeat which is not fundamentally but still a lot different from the standard rock beat with hh accents on 2&4 used in dubstep. None of these 2 beats sped up or slowed down would ever produce the same sound.

Joel’s right about collaborating with Bieber to sell a bunch of records, but I 100% believe Sonny also saw it as an artistic endeavor. Sonny seems like a very open and sweet dude. I think he loves the creative process so much that he’s not very cynical about the mainstream, the complete opposite of Joel. But I side with Joel. Art is not entirely subjective and derivative is derivative. Sonny can choose to make what he likes. Unfortunately for me that means I’m not interested in his new stuff. Oh well

I agree that "Where are you now" sounds so lazy. One thing I really hate was the repetitiveness of the drop's lead. instead of it being catchy, it sounds so annoying. there is no real melodic element to it. it sounds like something that you will have if you slap some random notes on the piano.

I do realise that this comment is 3 years old, but let's be honest, it's ok to have tastes. There is no subjective "right" or "wrong" when it comes to opinions, which Mr. Rxhit above me doesn't seem to understand. Subjectively, Jack U's music is better than Skrillex's dubstep music, as well as subjectively, Skrillex's dubstep music is better than Jack U's music. Like I said, it all comes down to taste.

all these videos of skrillex and deadmaus, lol, deadmaus is 100 percent correct! He is not just a superb talent and producer/dj but he says it like it is. edm music was always underground and had a loyal fan base, it has gotten so out of control now and watered down and lame in the mainstream that many people are pissed about that, not just deadmaus. It sounds good for the mainstream babysitter that hears it, but to real musicians and electronic artists and fans it is nothing major. Either way, try something new and innovative instead of just doing work with pop artists, put new singers on that can really sing and spread the love. J beiber is a suburban dork.
