In the comics, Negasonic Teenage Warhead is actually a telepath and precognitive mutant. Her abilities were changed for the film due to the fact that the writers thought that by having explosive powers, it would fit more with her name.

She also says she thinks it's stupid to have a name that gives away what your power set is to your opponent, which is a pretty valid point. Her powers are precognitive, but they detect disasters and dangers more strongly (even more so if they're going to effect her), so she's constantly bombarded with images of horror, death, and disaster. She's remarkably non-suicidal, considering.

I love the tossed word salad Deadpool used in this movie. Being the "Merc with a mouth" really fits him here. And a friend of mine explained how Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the comic just had telekinesis and died a few issues after being introduced. So cool name for a pretty standard mutant. I'm betting they saw the name, found out how lame the character was and rebuilt her from the ground up using the name as the foundation. And probably thinking "What would be a funny personality for Deadpool to bump against?"
