I think the most ironic part is Batman didn’t tell Deadshot to kill Waller. He was just there because he knew what Deadshot was about to do and would’ve saved her if she changed her mind. But since she didn’t Batman was like *”ight bet. Ima let him do what he wants to you.”*
@hatoru173 ай бұрын
Batman abides by his no killing rule to his very core unless there is a point where he has an absolutely negative percent chance of a choice, and that's mostly rare. This might possibly be one of those times where he probably knew what was going to happen, but didn't even bother because Waller was so dangerous and will be willing to endanger others time and again. Batman almost never breaks his rule but he damn sure knows when it has to be bent a little.
@Croecho3 ай бұрын
@@hatoru17 Batman also is willing to break it entirely when the chips are down. The reason Batman has his rule is not to protect the lives of the bad guys, nor is it because he thinks any of them can redeem themselves (though I think there's at least a part of him that hopes for that). His rule is a safeguard for his own soul - his way of ensuring that HE never becomes one of the monsters he faces on a day to day basis. He believes fervently that the act of killing corrupts the killer. But he gets reeeaaally loose with the rule when the world is at stake, and it doesn't look like he's going to survive. Case in point: Darkseid and Apokolips. Everyone loves to point at this scene as an example of Batman being a badass. And it IS. A human man was able to bluff Darkseid in a way that Superman couldn't have. But... it wasn't a bluff. The reason Darkseid agreed to Batman's terms was because Darkseid KNEW that Batman wasn't bluffing, that this human would absolutely let Darkseid's world die along with all its inhabitants. And the reason Batman would have absolutely broken his number one rule in this instance is very simple: What would it matter if this act makes him a monster if he's going to die anyway? And whether Darkseid agrees to his terms, or Apokalips is destroyed... either way the earth is safe. So when the stakes are high enough, Batman can and will discard that rule at a crucial moment. It's the secret weapon none of his allies or enemies knows he has. A secret willingness to do what must be done even if it would cost him his soul. (It's also the reason he was the only member of the JL to devise contingency plans against all the other members - even himself).
@hatoru173 ай бұрын
@@Croecho that's why I said almost never because there have been occasions where he had no choice but to break it in such events like what you've mentioned. Definitely "messy cook." "Just you" serves it's purpose; it shows this Waller in this timeline has no idea who she's dealing with. Batman doesn't show up in your office to bluff. "Messy cook," on the other hand, is an absolute masterpiece. It takes a popular turn of phrase and spins it upside down. It shows Batman's disdain in multiple ways; it spits in the face of the idea behind the saying, the idea that you can just kill people to make any old plan come together, it shows his distaste for her willingness to dispose of so many lives so loosely, and it shows his contempt for her planning being so sloppy. It's insanely good.

IIRC the directors outright stated that Batman sent Deadshot money anonymously as Bruce Wayne and basically told him *"Do what you want with it, I won't stop you."* He essentially _hired_ Deadshot to go for Waller, and this scene was Batman giving her _one_ chance to show that she felt even the faintest trace of remorse or regret for her actions. But the fact that Waller was so dismissive and callous about the whole thing convinced Batman to just wash his hands of the whole thing and let the matter play out uninterrupted. He wasn't going to kill Waller himself, but he also wasn't going to stop someone like Deadshot from getting rid of her for him (Waller was a pain in the ass not just for people like Deadshot, but for Batman and the Justice League as well). Pretty much the only version of Waller that I can actually tolerate is the version from Justice League Unlimited & Batman Beyond where she's initially confrontational and troublesome for the League, but over time she begins to gradually develop respect for the League (especially Batman) which leads to Waller's conversation with Terry in Batman Beyond where she says: *"I've known Bruce Wayne for over 50 years. And for all of his fierce exterior, I've never met anyone who cared more deeply for his fellow man than Bruce Wayne....except maybe you. You want to have lived a better life than the old man? Take care of the people who love you. Or don't. It's your choice."*

I don't know where I learned it from but I remember one of the main reasons Batman doesn't kill is simply because it would become too easy for him. Not like he's a badass ass so it's too easy. Like in the way when you use a cheat code in a game you forget how to play without it. It could very easily become his go to solution and he doesn't want to be like the villains he persues and let's escape perpetually to murder people's loved ones. When Batman does stuff like this to a villain, or actually kills someone, it's because he figures you're worth dirtying his hands for. If he's going to be the one that has a failsafe for every scenario, a way to take out every villain and hero, you don't really want pulling the trigger to be his default option.

@@Rodrigo-ei4ht how does he avoid having super powers? I’m not familiar with reading the comics but every tv depiction of him I’ve seen he doesn’t have any powers because he’s not born with any or isn’t a meta human. But Batman does have a lot of power in terms of him being a billionaire, a super hero & member of the Justice League, having access to so many weapons, and he has like a genius level intellect and knows how to take out just about anybody, so idk if power actually corrupts him I think his actions throughout most of his history shows that even with power he still does the right thing to be a super hero.

You mean comicly accurately big here. From when she was first created to the New52, Amanda Waller was designed to be morbidly obese. Aside from her design being visually striking in the world of skintight spandex, her look was to make people underestimate her ruthlessness and cunning. Her appearances in other media made her smaller and smaller until Arrow had a former fashion model portray her and New52 gave her a special ops body. Viola Davis has done great things playing her but a more accurate visual would have been her other Oscar winning co-star from the movie The Help, Octavia Spencer. Although now, DC had given her a canonical reason for losing weight and looking more like Viola Davis...she had to lose the weight for her health.

I really like the idea that Batman just let this one slide. If deadshot becomes a problem again he can capture him whenever he really needs to. But getting rid of Waller is truly a best case scenario for all parties involved, including the US government considering she’s so corrupt that if deadshot doesn’t kill her here and now, someone else would later anyways. And Batman while he maybe doesn’t wish death upon anyone, like many others have said here he doesn’t have to save certain people. And Waller is definitely someone who would be threatened a lot regardless if Batman was around or not.
