I'm a retired truck driver. Waaaay back in training the one thing a couple of the instructors harped on was to NEVER blow the air horn (or even the beeper) at a moose. They'll take it as a challenge and charge!

So the solar system becomes the galaxy's "Bermuda Triangle" and humanity becomes the monster in the closet or under the bed. Fitting. Not all "prey" animals are helpless. Ask any critter that's ever taken on a porcupine how easy it was to eat one. A horse, while being an herbivore, has a dangerous, tearing bite, can stomp down with very sharp hooves and a kick that even a grizzly bear does not want any part of. Just two examples, there are many more.
