Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

One nitpick, the thumbnail shows an over/under (o/u) shotgun, while pump shotguns used by the Americans were diplomatically protested as a war crime by the Germans in WWI. Nowadays full-auto models are far more devastating. Can you imagine how effective they'll be in the future?

drum mag AA12 for the foot soldiers, but anti missile batteries should be able to stop them well, if there's a grid of bullets with less than 10cm between each bullet, you can't dodge unless you can run faster than said bullets. same thing with cluster bombs and grenades. a mk19 style turret with frag grenades should take care of the bastards efficiently too.

I legit stopped a home invasion just by racking the slide of a 12ga. pump, one of the original "war crime stick" design. (Winchester Model 1897)
@Snipergoat1
@Snipergoat1 Жыл бұрын
That is one of the reasons I always recommend a pump action 12 or 20 gauge with #7 or #8 birdshot for home defense. If you reuse or make your own shells and it's legal where you live you can also try a mix of #8 and #4 for just a little more oomph. The sound is very distinctive. Even if you have never heard it before you will know exactly what it is. Most home invasion robbers do not want to begin to deal with that and will high tail it out of there. Home sucessfully defended, no bodies or bullet holes to explain to authorities. The birdshot isn't quite as deadly as I'd like with my deadly force and it's armor penetration is basically nil but it is also unlikely to knock through a wall and hit an inconveniently placed neighbor or kid. This is a serious concern in a residential area especially an apartment building with their notoriously thin walls. Besides how often do home invaders wear body armor? There is also the rocksalt option. Even less energy carried to the target and armor penetration but oh Lord I can only imagine how much that would hurt. It's creating a wound and salting it at the same time. It's still deadly force but it is another rung down on the likelyhood tp kill or maim a person, however with an extra dose of pure pain. A lot people would feel bad about killing someone even in a defense situation (Stupid human empathy) never mind that depending on where you live, authorities can be real dicks when a private citizen takes a criminal out of circulation. Even the most empathetic with the biggest dickheads for authorities would have a lot fewer problems with them being handed a healthy dose of mind crushing pain. Empathy be damned, they were trying to take your stuff and they put you and your family in danger it's the least they deserve. And you gave them a warning that is even more distinct than the sound of a rattlesnake. (Another sound you will immediately recognize even if it your first time hearing it.)

Poor bugs learning the same lesson we have been teaching each other for generations, shotguns can ruin your day. Makes you wonder what they'll think of claymore mines, cansiter shot and quad mount .50cal machine guns, we long since learn't how to make long range weapons that hit with multiple shots at the same time. Or you know, good old fashioned HE frag grenades and their much newer 40mm grenade machine gun fired couisins.

True, but, there is one problem. Logistics. These guys are how many light years from home? There is a reason sci-fi loves its energy weapons: because one generator can resupply an entire company. Every last gram of weight you take to that war zone you have to transport across millions or billions of miles of space. Fight it through orbital blockades, and then get it to the grunts on the ground. Energy weapons solve a lot of those problems. But as the story tells, not all of them. I do agree they should have had some claymore mines and frag grenades at least.

Imagine a dozen M1 Abrams tanks all spitting XM1028 canister rounds from their Rheinmetall Rh-120mm Smooth Bore Guns. Yes the M1 Abrams can be used as a giant Shotgun, you might even call it a War Crime Bong. It's also worth noting that the "pellets" in the XM1028 are not made from lead, but rather tungsten alloy. So yeah, every time the Big Bong goes Boom, you're launching 1150-1200 AP rounds at a problem. And what makes it even better is that it is effective out to about 500 Meters. "They're centuries old, God Damned Museum Pieces! WTF do you intend to use them for!?" says some museum curator to a group of E-4 CSE Marine Corporals.

Oh man ! So their shields can deflect one bullet. And ...Dude no one fires just once in a war, except the snipers. Even artillery fire more than once. You get a few hundred bullets per minute hitting your shield.. Indeed the Germans did protest the American's using shotguns in trench warfare ,during WWI. The Americans just kept doing it. Why use knives swords and clubs , when you can use a shotgun? Of course those were hunting shotguns, the US did not have a military shotgun back then. These days .. i think their tankers get the equivalent. I wont swear to it , its third hand mentioned in passing, but whoever is using them, i'm sure they are much more effective than a hunting shotgun.
@checkme1830
@checkme1830 Жыл бұрын
The current stance on shotguns by the US military is...odd. It’s had a few stages and has evolved over time. In WW 1, for those of you claiming auto shotguns didn’t exist at the time, you’d be only somewhat correct. The shotguns Americans used lacked a trigger disconnect. This means they could fire as fast as they could put a case in the chamber. It was basically automatic. You could empty an entire loaded gun of 7 casings in about three seconds. These shotguns were provided by the military. The military stopped handing out shotguns during Vietnam, claiming them to be ineffective (BULLSHIT), so it became common practice to bring your own shotgun. Finally, today, shotguns are given out again and used in breaching engagements as glorified door breaches, taking out the door at the hinges before kicking it. However, as one marine fresh from a tour in Iraq said, “You’d be surprised how many doors over there had beards and turbans on.”

Oh my..... The most infamous "trench gun" was a hunting shotgun that had a shorter barrel and no checkering on the stock. Oh yes,......it also had a bayonet attachment point and maybe a barrel shroud to protect your hands from the heat. Thats it. Its son is in my gun rack on my wall, manufactured in 1924. In 16 gauge. It is the Model 12 by Winchester. Its brother-by- another-mother is in my bedroom. Remington 870 Wingmaster in 12 gauge; 19 inch barrel and loaded with 00 buckshot. You will not find a more efficient or terrifying weapon for CQB except for explosives.

So you're telling me that the bugs are using insect waves and taking advantage of the fact that they're exoskeleton can take a laser or plasma hit long enough for them to get in close? Yeah this is not going to end well for them. Humans fixed it so wave attacks haven't been considered in a half century. And I'm not even seeing mortars or light artillery here.
