Can you please add captions please. I am fluent in American Sign Language...I understand some but not all
@leahstone13587 жыл бұрын
There are captions. Also, ASL is for America, not other countries like Iceland, where this seems to take place. If you know ASL, you probably won't understand signs in another country.
@whit60797 жыл бұрын
Leah Dempsey I guess my captions were not working at the time. I understand half of what they were saying. It's called international language, body language and facial expressions. I could figure out what they were saying. I do not sign Iceland sign language. Deaf people can understand acting out and gestures. Like they signed sexy and that is the same. They signed enter the home the same. It was still very interesting to watch them act. Cute performance.

I didn't understand the signs in this video due to being an American Deaf and only knowing ASL. But I understood the feelings and the plot. Nicely done guys. Thanks for this awesome video about how coclear implants can be bad for your health. CI is dangerous people! Before you consider getting one consider all the health problems and risks.

Actually it's Icelandic Sign Language. Each country, and even some regions within a country, has a different sign language complete with different signs and even grammatical structure. It's not universal.

Most comments are dumb about what sign language the video is in, not about what it attempts to convey. I am not Icelandic nor Danish, still I got much of the content. The content concerns the issue how the CI hits the Deaf Community. CI presents so much hope to some deaf individuals for a better place in the hearing world like getting a hearing girlfriend. At end, it turns out to be a false hope as shown at the end of the video. Therefore, the video is good literarily. Very intelligent!

This is a very common misconception: Just because a deaf person uses sign language doesn't necessarily mean they are unable to speak. One reason deaf people may choose not to speak because of the difficulty for a hearing person to understand. Deaf people can't hear their speech (unless they use a CI or hearing aid) so they choose to be non-verbal because they don't want to be taunted/teased by the hearing who are ignorant. Hope that clears that up! :)

True. But with every surgery, there are side-effects. My deaf co-workers explained to me that it can cause retardation and blindness. It can even make the extent of hearing much worse than without the cochlear implant.

Unfortunately, I wasn't required to learn a 2nd language until high school. I took Spanish for 3 years, and don't remember shit. And then I took ASL in college. I wished it was a requirement for elementary school to teach a 2nd language. As you said, it goes to show how misinformed people are.
