Well, the equivalent for us would be putting on sound cancelling headphones which is like a pressing feeling to us, whereas for her, having both hearing aids in creates the same feeling, but she hears most things. And taking them out would take some recalibrating of how loud she should be (which is especially hard when you can't hear 😂)

It was probably invented by a student at Eton College. It is composed as a compound of the Latin words floccus (flake), naucum (nutshell), nihilum (nothing) and pilus (hair), all of which signify something lesser, worthless, and the suffix -fication. The word was first used literarily in 1741 by the English writer William Shenstone. Says the German Wikipedia

This just reminded me of when I was in high school. I had an English teacher who would use a computer program to grade our papers. The algorithms looked for all the common things, such as grammar and spelling, but it also graded for vocabulary. I quickly figured out that if I somehow managed to include the word "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in each of my assignments, it would automatically give me an A+! Lol Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Jess & Claud! ❤

Perri Kapp I’m also from MA, but I drop the first “r” in February. Though I haven’t always lived there so there’s a possibility it still is because of where I grew up. Language communities can be surprisingly small and isolated even in the same state. I actually didn’t realize that February had a first “r” because I never pronounced it. Language is really fascinating and the differences in the way people pronounce words adds to that.

In America, most people do say the word Library as, "Li-barry", when they aren't properly corrected as children, but we're initially taught and supposed to say, "Li-brairy". For the month February, most people pronounce it the way the English, but we're supposed to say, "Fe-bru-airy", as it is proper in our culture. Sherbet is a whole 'nother pronunciation fight we have here since it's spelled and pronounced "sher-bet", but soo many people say "sher-bert". There is no extra "R"! Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
