The fact is that the majority of deaf and hard of hearing children are born into hearing families. Audio-verbal communication is the cultural norm for such families so it makes sense that deaf children in these cases learn through mainstream education. On the flipside, consider that I created a KZbin video that said that all Deaf parents need to send their children to mainstream schooling as Deaf schooling is wrong, I bet you there would be uproar.

I don't understand why hearing always have to make fun of deaf just because cannot write English. I born deaf and third generation of deafness, grew up at deaf school. I can read and write well. I have seen hearing's poor English. So, what is the difference between hearing or deaf that write or typing poor English. So therefore it's each own decision wanting to improve write well or not. So stop making or point all on Deaf. Some hearing does english horrible!! All are human being and equal.

I was born with some hearing in both ears, wear hearing aids and do very well in normal school. This video is very important for hearing parents to know what to do with their kids. My mother was tossed around schools because my grandparents did not know what to do. My mother has learned from their mistakes and gave me a better future. Hopefully this will help hearing parents give deaf children a better life.

I love it! I am hearing person working in a deaf school. The acceptance, the ease of communication,allows these children to focus on learning. Not hiding, not worrying about looking different if they sign.... I am SHOCKED at how many parents do not learn to sign! How can you NOT want to have an easy/effective/beautiful way to communicate with your child??? Yes, there is oral, pen/paper etc but you will never be able to get the same level of depth in a conversation. Meet them 1/2 way. Please

My sister is deaf and our family never learned sign language because she attended a school that taught only speech and lip reading. We were glad of that because we thought it would help her in her future, which I still believe it did. But, after graduating that school she went to Michigan School for the Deaf (MSD). We all now wish we had learned sign language. She married a man who attended only MSD and, while he can read lips and can speak, it would be easier if we could sign correctly.

I am hearing and I personally know a couple of Deaf who attended mainstream school and didn't enjoy their time there. They were bullied, judged and they had a hard time making friends. From where I live, I would blame on the fact that many don't know much about deaf culture and hence fail to teach their kids the right way to behave. Sometimes, even adults make fun of Deaf and it's really depressing to know.

Some deaf children prefer a hearing mainstream school. It's not really fair to say that all deaf kids should go straight to a deaf school, that's generalizing their personalities and you might give hearing parents the wrong idea to isolate or be ashamed of their child's deafness, which is stupid.

Cool that is awesome to hear.I do not understand this video whatsoever, being deaf does not make us any different from anyone else. I had hearing all my life until I had meningitis and to be honest I prefer being deaf. I can choose whether I want to hear or not with my implants its amazing also it has opened a whole new world to me and the fact this person is saying deaf children should go to a deaf school is not true at all in fact it's a load of rubbish. I am now training to become a teacher of the deaf so I am having a lot of information and training and as long as deaf children have the right support then they will succeed just the same as any other child! Good on you Sophia!

I will also be doing regular vlogs ( with subtitles and signing based on my life as being deaf as I do so much with disability sport now and other things ) also how I deal with certain situations being deaf and hopefully help and offer good advice to other deaf people.

the reason why deaf people have bad grammar is after school they do not practice like we would they have to sign not speak out the word or practice saying it they dont have to write most of the time because their family can understand sign language the reason i know this is because my mom is deaf and my mom shared this on email to me. and it is a tough life for these people it is hard for them to go into a regular store they cant talk to the employee to ask for something instead they write it
@missabb10012 жыл бұрын
My mom learned ASL for me. And she is the reason why Im signing today for people. You know honestly, I don't think that all deaf schools are appropriate for deaf people. Because honestly, if it wasn't for my hearing school, I wouldn't have good grammar like I do today. I joined my deaf school because I was lonely, and wanted to enrich my deaf culture. Because of that, I learned how to survive in two worlds and can translate for deaf people if needed, and translate for hearing people if needed.

I believe in a world where everyone is special and has their own place. Deafness is not a disease or something to cure! It is a beautiful binding silence that is sometimes very loud to outsiders! Historically Alexander Gram bell wanted to invent so he worked and funded hearing programs. Just because implants can happen they are not flawless. It is not the only option and should not be the first response. The Deaf community needs to be heard! I love this video ! People who don't know anyone inside the beautiful deaf community do not understand because they are hearing! This man is letting you know your child is NOT broken!!!!!

@missexi718 A deaf school is actually the BEST school for any profoundly deaf children. I am happy that I went there. Many deaf people are not happy since they never went to a deaf school because of their parents' bad decision. SAD! You are right about one thing. Any hearing OR deaf student must be MOTIVATED to learn no matter where. Many kids at my old school were dumb because they were not motivated to learn. That was their fault. Teachers are not to blame.

I agree that parents should learn sign language for their kids and change themselves instead of making their kids have hearing aids and getting them to learn speech to fit into society "Normally". Love them for who they are. They can make the choice to have a hearing aid when they get older but parents shouldn't change them and force them to get a hearing aid just because of the communication barrier.

I disagree about part where all Deaf should/must go to deaf school. I grew up attend mainstream/public school from preschool to grade 8, then decided to attend deaf school from grade 9-12. What i have learned between those two is education level, not all deaf school are same but deaf school high school education i went to is same as public middle school i went to. Let them (parents or deaf kids) decide whats best for them. public schools in here offer ASL classes, which is good thing.

I wholly agree Deaf & HoH children should go to DEAF schools - providing that the Deaf schools hire DEAF teachers fluent in ASL. Once a Deaf child has fluency in ASL - mastering written English will be easier. I resented being sent to a hearing school and missing so much education; playing catch-up. Went to MSSD at 16 years old. Had I had early start, my education would have been drastically IMPROVED. Social life, a well rounded approach for all needs & peers who understand me. Parents of Deaf children, LEARN ASL for your Deaf child- it'll be the best gift you'll ever give them. Don't force them to be something they'll never be, no matter how "well" they seem to "adjust" in the hearing society with CIs. It's not the same thing. You have hands, use it for the benefit of your child.

A lot of people just don't really understand. Not all parents want there kids to have to go to deaf school. There are a lot of things out there I have a cochlear implant and a hearing aid. I go to a public school and I have a microphone and a fm and a interper and I'm glad my mom sent me to a normal school with hearing people. It's not just a good experience with deaf people but a good experience for hearing people too like if all deaf kids go to deaf school and only interact with deaf students then what would happen later in life if a hearing person need to ask them a question or whatever and didn't know they were deaf how would they interact they wouldn't know to look at them and be patient. Not all deaf kids should go to deaf schools.
