Dude plays synth with one hand while doing intricate top work with the other and pulling off absolutely psychotic double bass patterns and speaking in...binary? Cursive zalgo text? Random face noises? Dude's so good that watching him play broke my brain for the entire first night I knew of him and it still absolutely blows me away like six months later.

This song feels like they are starting a conversation within our inner self, by depicting what salvation would sound like. Starting from screams of agony, but the music eventually ends with sprinkles of sunshine-like guitar sounds. This balance between despair within the vocals and beautiful instruments makes the song feel so... unreal. It's so cool that they are able to touch people's own sorrow, hope, and even nostalgia with their most chaotic sounds. I could not help but instantly fall in love with your works. I can't describe how tracks (albums in fact) like this make me feel confident about how I love music and how much it means to my everyday life. When this dropped as a single, I couldn't withstand BM vocals yet, though Canary Yellow, perhaps thanks to mellow intro, somehow managed to instill itself in my mind. Recently, probably due to Infinite Granite, I've embarked on the journey of rediscovering Deafheaven and oh boy. Ordinary Corrupt Human Love has got to be one of my absolute top favourite albums of all time. The way these tracks can pull "some strings inside" is otherwordly. Especially Honeycomb. Despite the harsh vocal, the message and the arrangement make me feel like barely any other song can. This has got to be one of the most positive, heartwarming tunes I will ever have heard in my life. Thank you Deafheaven, and thank you community for being there and giving this band the praise it truly deserves, for whatever reason you might be there. I wonder how many more pieces like this await me and I'm grateful I can experience them just in time when I need them. My 2023 is definitely the year of Deafheaven. Adam Seneca if that's the bar for artistic criticism, then I guess you can only be a critic if you work in the field of what your criticizing? "this burger isn't very good" Sorry man, you have to be a chef to have that opinion. "man, I didn't like that movie much" Once you make your own 100 million dollar film, then you can talk. You do realize how dumb that is, right?
@ishmaelseneca33896 жыл бұрын
Philosophical Skeptic this would make tons of sense if it took the actual comments into consideration. For example the comments which complain about it being "surfcore" or "hipster trash," etc. The burger critic is making an appeal to his subjective experience, while 99% of the hate in this comments field is without form or direction
@massass99456 жыл бұрын
Philosophical Skeptic // I feel like the direction in which Adam is taking his point is a little different. People say that Deafheaven is bad comparing the group to other, different artists/groups in the metal scene. It’d be like going to a restaurant, ordering a burger, than complaining that the burger didn’t taste exactly like the one you have at Wendy’s. The burger analogy aside, people need to stop acting like they know everything about music and what’s good and bad. As someone who is in the art, music, and theater scene, I have no fucking clue what I’m doing half the time, but my style is my own. Yes, all art is borrowed and/or inspired by another piece in SOME WAY, but it’s still my own, and it wouldn’t be fair to lump me in with some band like Dads or Scale The Summit and call me bad because I’m not just like them. There’s no set boundary to music, it can be so many different things, and rather than pining for the bad in things and drawing comparisons, maybe appreciating the art for what it is, an expression of its creator, there would be a lot of changed, more satisfied people with entirely new understandings of things.

So I guess not dressing up as a tryhard makes you a hipster? That's pretty new info to me. Never knew metalheads were such fashion experts.

This is my new favorite long song. It’s like standing in the middle of a hurricane but you can still see the sunrise over the horizon.

I really dig how it keeps changing. The transitions felt smooth to me, as the mood slowly shifted from a dark and heavy black metal song to a more dreamy and uplifting end.

Mercutio you're right man, lyrically, I also think Sunbather was depressing. But I don't mind this at all. I think life is two sides of a coin. You can have both.

This is wonderful, it goes from Deafheavenness to Pop Punk to Pop Rock to Deafheavenness to Dream Pop and it all fits together. Hope there will be even more experiments on the new album.

No. There is a third option. Do something different and take BM into a new direction that retains the entire undercurrent that fuels BM which this has literally 0 of you god damn hipsters.

As an old timer who loves rock from the 70s-80s and early 90s I kind of like this band. I am looking at the Bonnaroo lineup this year and this is an actual band that plays instruments. Of course people will say I am out of touch with todays music and yes I am out of touch. I feel brain dead because I just listened to RL Grimes,Girl Talk, Liquid Stranger, Saba and Heckler. Can I please have back the last 45 minutes of my life.

It's nice to see how the bands mature, the past of these guys was very hard, but they have already grown, the storm has passed, and it is good to see them be happy now, music continues to maintain that essence, but they are not the same sad kids anymore , happy for them
