That is such a beautiful message, to look for wherever we can support people. We also need ways we can communicate to new people what specific support we need, and teach confidence to those waiting to ask. If we throw a sign or two, we can find someone waiting to learn sign, and a new friend.

To force a Deaf student to eat alone in a separate room would be a major violation, but if a Deaf child wants a separate room, she/he should do it.

I started learning ASL a couple years ago to be able to communicate with my deaf and h of h patients. Later it help me when I was working in a supermarket. I. Currently unemployed, and using this time to continue learning. And wow, I was able to follow 75% of what u were signing. There's alway more to learn and improve. Subscribed!

Sorry you had that experience. I had the same, only I hated ALL of school. I was in Special Education and so I was bullied constantly. That was a long time ago, but now I find it very difficult for even small accommodations. For instance there is no quiet room at airports, even if they claim that they do. And when I am non-speaking, my only help is writing on my phone. Trying to find peeps who sign.... :)

James, go to your community college, there should be ASL teachers, Deaf/Coda, who will happily pull you into the Deaf world~

Self-Advocacy is exhausting! I hope you are continually finding your self-care methods to recover and refresh. Disability advocacy has come a long way, and still has a long way to go. There is much hope!

Interesting. Loner. Not because you are Deaf, but because you like being alone. It doesn't matter if the hearing children were talking or signing if you preferred to be alone anyway.
