I remember these trucks when they were new and they looked rough after just a few years and they were butt ugly right out of the showroom. People didn't start driving pickups as personal vehicles, instead of cars until well into the 70s. Believe me you would NOT want to be picking up your date in one of these trucks back then. Looks only a mother could love.

Looks like history is repeating with the new GM heavy duty pickups. What a homely face with the signal lights on top of the headlights. It's like some kind of grill off an industrial air conditioner. Maybe GM still owns Frigidaire Co.

@@jamesbosworth4191 GM must have been in trouble many times, besides when WE were forced to bail them out. They sold Frigidaire, Detroit Diesel/Allison, etc. Seems stupid. Whenever GM gets a good idea, they sabotage it and build Vegas and X-cars instead. But they might be onto something. Look how Toyota made the ugliest grill possible for the new Tundra, and people give big money for it. There seems to be an ugly contest with new vehicles, as well as making sure the hood of trucks is puffed up higher than the bed rails, like someone glued a second hood on top of the first. Competing with the hoods for visual blockage is the TV screen sticking up over the dash, like Toyota. I really am.liking old Square body sensible trucks now.

@@jeanclaude7018 I love my Squarebody. If you have them rust-proofed, they are great trucks. They do everything a truck is supposed to do, and have a nice interior as well, and they are easy to work on. NO DAMN COMPUTERS! And yes, today's Japanoid and Japanese vehicles are truly ugly. They look like the faces of the Hurman/Unger cartoons that used to be in the paper.

When I was a kid it was hilarious to see a woman driving a pickup truck. It just was not done by ladies. We actually laughed at it. They were very rough riding without power steering, power brakes, nor air conditioning until the late 60’s and early 70’s. Most of them were 6 cylinder too. I remember the first v8 Chevy truck I ever saw about 1968.

I have always liked the 60 - 61 Chevy's, (and GMC) looks, and I knew they were all new and were bigger. I always figured, though, that it's rear coil springs were a liability, (the GMC stuck with rear leaf springs), but it actually has a higher load capacity. Would be curious to see how the other makes compare from THEIR OWN points of view. It does look like the Chevy wins hands down.

Of the four 1960 models, only Chevy was all-new. But 1961 brought new designs for Ford, Dodge and IHC. Of those three, Ford looked better, IHC looked better, but Dodge was plug-ugly! Not to mention that Chevy's design was improved in 1962 and 1964, while Ford was pretty much the same through 1966 (except for the unibody, which was phased out by 1964. Dodge finally made its front end more attractive by 1965, but none of them were attractive enough to win any beauty contests back then....

The Ford looked good enough to justify a six year run. I actually wish they made even more of them. I'd like to find the very rare crew cab they made for 1965. Very solid trucks. My father put a 390 in ours and it actually could lug mobile homes around. These Fords don't seem to rot out in the cab corners and fenders the way the GMs did. Fisher body seemed to have an obsession with building water traps into their bodies. This great feature peaked out in the Vega!

The fords and chevys were cool looking with the foreward leaning cabs and those huge hoods, but unfortunately the chevys was impossible to see over and the new suspensions sucked and proved short lived. Ford caught up in sucking with the 61 unit cab and box.
@vm722
@vm722 2 ай бұрын
Why do you feel that the torsion bar suspension sucked? If you look at the history they are using torsion bar suspension on many vehicles till today. in 1963 chevy had to drop the torsion bar suspension and go with the spring front suspension. Because I believe Cadillac had the patent. Many people are completely satisfied with the torsion bar suspension and believe that it is superior.

These presentations were made by all manufacturers of cars and trucks from the 1920s thru early 2000s. Records ans slides are used here, with a "beep" sound or similar to tell someone to switch to the next image. These were created as a simple means to educate a salesman, and give them 3 or 4 items in each area...vo.fort, power, economy, value, styling, handling...with a small book to put in one's pocket as a reference. One was supposed to memorize and familiarize themselves with their advantages compared to the competition. The idea being to listen and ask a prospect...what do you look for in a truck? If they say, comfort- I drive 12 hous a day...then roomy seats, big windows, sun visors, good wipers, heater, radio...followed by how strong economical engines using big tires and brakes made for easier driving less fatigue at days end...OR point out whatever the customer seems to care about the most...that's how we sold then.
