Thanks for the info. Just dropped my turbo car off at the dealership for oil change and they recommended this for me and I declined it because I thought it was just a bs recommendation. Just did some research and have noticed some power lost on acceleration, thought it was transmission issues. But just told the dealership to do it so thanks for the insight!

I just had this done on my 2015 chevy colorado with 82,000 miles on it for the first time. I didn't request it, but it was recommended. And my ears were open because i have noticed a little hesitation and worsening fuel economy. I had both of the 2 fuel services done. And yes, I do notice a difference. Fuel economy is almost as good as it was when the truck was brand new, the throttle is more responsive, and the engine seems to run quieter and smoother like it did when it was brand new. However, the dealership recommends this every 15,000 miles. I don't think that's necessary. I would only get it done when you start to notice a difference in your fuel economy and or hesitation when you accelerate.

15k does sound early but it does depend on how the car is driven. Someone who makes lots of short trips with non top tier fuel will build carbon at a much faster rate than someone that does all highway and uses shell v-power all day. Listen to your car for sure!

So….completely ignorant question: won’t the resulting break up of carbon just wind up in and clog up the catalytic system?
@RaceBreakRepeat
@RaceBreakRepeat 25 күн бұрын
It’s a great question! The answer is well, no. The process is not so harsh that it will cause large pieces of carbon to detach and cause issues. If the engine is in bad enough condition where that could/would be a threat I would think you would be chasing a more physical cleaning method/engine repairs. This is a preventative maintenance service not really a “repair” carbon removed from this service passes through so long as the service isn’t done improperly. If done improperly catalyst damage can occur. Properly trained technicians are important!

Thank you for the detailed explanation. You sound professional and know what you are doing. it would be great if you could post links or the part numbers for both cleaners. Thank you in advance! Also, to my understanding, it is 2 different services when I called a local Toyota dealer, they told me that it is 1 service. I am not sure if I asked them correctly. I told them I needed an "Air intake valve and Combustion Chamber cleaning service" and "Fuel injector cleaning service". Please advise if I should've asked differently.
@RaceBreakRepeat
@RaceBreakRepeat Жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad this video offers useful info! These aren’t “set” services but the industry or dealer, so you may find some variances. Which means it’s good to understand what you ask for /what you get. Some dealers do this as one service, others you’ll find may only do one “part” or the other. For reference I mean intake /induction service being the throttle clean and fluid ingested and injector being specifically the can the vehicle runs on. Often people selling the service mistake the fuel tank additive as the injector cleaning portion. Which isn’t wrong, but that’s more a fuel additive with slower/less effective cleaning effects. When you ask your dealer, ask if their items are the one which allows the vehicle to run stand alone off the cleaner or if it’s the one that mixes the chemicals through the intake and adds a supplement to fuel tank. Or both if sold as one. I think you asked correctly and are now finding yourself in one of the greater issues within the industry - detailed knowledge of services over the game of telephone. Don’t be afraid to see if they’ll let you speak with a skilled tech! Also. These may not be sold over the counter at a dealer but I’ll try and find the part numbers and post more here.

Have a 2018 Rogue with 42K miles, had both the Injection and Induction Services done along with the oil change, had them done at the dealer.... not cheap but I don’t expect people to work for free. I drive about 5-6k miles a month because I do Lyft part time so I feel like this services is warranted in my case. I plan on driving my Rogue until 300K miles and as long as the maintenance are done on schedule I don’t see any reason I could not achieve this. By the way, I noticed a much responsive throttle response and the car just seems to accelerate much quicker so yeah it works.

Simple answer. Yes. If someone doesn’t perform the service correctly it can be less effective and in extreme circumstances cause harm if performed improperly. If you distrust them maybe do some homework and find a shop near by with a good reputation and ask them questions. What brands, what types of fuel services they offer.

Don't premium for a car that calls for 87. Just get a listed top gier gasoline, Techron is good, and just hit the highway and open it up every now and then. Shit, redline it while getting onto interstate, providing the engine is warm, once a week. Unelss you have direct injection (and not Toyota D4S), get top tier gas and check the throttle plate every now and then. Dont waste money on these services unless theres an actual performance/economy issue. Highway driving + top tier gas will be all you need for all port injected systems and likely for all Toyota D4s. However, there's even more cases where opening up on the highway is good.. the new "Prime" hybrids... If you always recharge and never use the ICE to regen the battery, thinfs can eventually happen. Good to take a highways spin and let the good ol gas engine charge it ip. All those trips but hardly used the ICE.. and when you do, it's for such a short time that you never reach nominal operating temp., and thus carbon slowly builds and builds
@RaceBreakRepeat

The big important part is the back of the intake valves. A+ for D4-S here! DGI cars need this more. Especially those struggling with carbon. EGR isn’t helping (thanks epa lol) but yes. Running the engine hard during in ramps now and again is good provided there isn’t any detonation

Maf sensor location isn’t an issue as long as whomever does it is knowledgeable and not just making quick money. Do this before the oil change too. Premium fuel helps but fuel quality isn’t necessarily the only cause for this condition. Many more factors. Age and overall health of engine is to be considered, best have someone who knows your vehicles history best do it unless you are capable of it yourself.

Cleaning of the throttle is often done with the induction portion since it’s usually accessed to perform the service. I would perform these both right before an oil chance, ideally perform these then once the engine is hot spill and fill oil. So if you’re about to take a trip and you aren’t due for service you can wait if your just doing this for preventative maintenance. For the road trip you can find a quality fuel system tank additive for cleaning ( I recommend liqui-moly brand ) and find a high detergent fuel ( Exxon I believe is highest at 89 octane ) and run those for the road trip. Will help do some cleaning for sure. 93 she’ll has highest detergents of the higher octane I believe

Higher at idle than loaded is an unmetered air leak usually, anything over 15% should also kick the cel on. Could have a stuck purge valve, restricted fuel system perhaps, sounds like your on the right track. But that engine ecu is 22 years old now. I’ve chased my arse a few times from faulty computers- they usually go bad around that age. If you get to wits end with physical checks try AEM modules for a rebuild. Also make sure you’re monitoring o2 sensors. Seen a few of the rear o2’s cause odd things when they don’t work well. After each check unhook battery to clear learn values.

I just drive on the hwy really hard. All those faking carbon will come off easily. Just don't drive short distance and let the engine warm up to normal temperature. Short distance will let gas splash on the back of the intake side. It will gunk up. If I don't drive like a GTA. I dont really need it. You're right. But, bear in mind, some companies suck at making gdi and it will be more annoying to maintain. But this + top tier gas is the right answer and anything more intensive is only if issues are actually witnessed. Toyota's D4s is cool and doesn't really have those cons

My Toyota Camry Hybrid 2018 has about 35K and the dealer recommends that next time for oil change, i need to to what so-call “induction system cleaning” and it costs $220. Is this service they referred to is the same as this Fuel Induction cleaning thing we’re talking about here? And is it the same as their internal jargon term 3-1 cleaning service? And the $220 is that pretty much the standard fees or is it cheaper to take it out to some non-dealer Toyota specialist to do for cheaper cost? Thanks in advance
@RaceBreakRepeat
@RaceBreakRepeat 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. so the dealer “induction system cleaning” is the fuel induction. Most Toyota dealers use service rite chemicals or similar like I’ve shown. $220 is a little high I think, I’d say around $180 would me more appropriate, but I don’t know how your area compares to mine. Its “3” part because it treats the fuel in tank with an additive, they clean throttle plate, then cleans the intake bits. A reputable non-dealer can also do this work, but like I said I’m not sure how your are is. Here many shops use the same chemicals and training so you could do it anywhere here.

Cold air intake won’t cause and issue with how the car runs unless it’s not the proper one for the car/causes a service engine light. Use of premium fuel (shell nitro+ 93) is the best for cleaning. That with the use of bg44k every 5k is already giving your engine the best chance at staying clean. Unless you’re having drivability issues from high carbon build up or it does tons of short trips (delivery’s,constant idle) you could probably wait.

The octane of the fuel won’t offer any benefits over lower grades. Some fuels do have higher levels of cleaning agents which can reduce the carbon build up, thus the need for services as such. Fuel tank additives would help keep fuel systems clean as well, most benefit for port injection vehicles such as your GX. Seafoam will not do the same. Seafoam is alcohol based. And is a dice roll. Alcohol combusts complety during combustion cycle of engine, raises octane lvls, and combustion pressures. Which sometimes lead to large chunks of carbon breaking off from intake valves, cylinder head etc. And going down stream and potentially harming the fuel/air system. BG fuel products are polyetheramine based (not water). And survive the combustion event, therefore traveling downstream with exhaust and potentially cleaning O2 sensors and cats depending on deposit level. I cant speak on the Toyota stuff.
