I'm in Cali and have yet to find a mechanic with this knowledge and skill let alone ethics. I absolutely dread taking my Lexus even for an oil change. They use bulk oil and lie saying it's Castrol or Mobil ......They supply cheap filters unless you bring your own in which case they charge the same amount. I also use Techron Complete Fuel System treatment at every full synthetic oil change at 5000 mile intervals. The dealership suggested I have fuel induction service on my next visit, I wasn’t really feeling that, but now I know it’s a up sale tactic. I’m not taking the bait. Hey Big Guy- With your permission, I would like to borrow a phrase from you. The phrase, which you say in the most benevolent manner is " Please don't do that". You mentioned (in a different segment) going to sleep at 2 A.M., and then getting up very early the following morning. "Please don't do that." I will try to be succinct in my explanation. While I was working full time, I was also taking care of my dear Mom. She had serious challenges to her health for six years. My goal during that time was to keep her feeling safe, secure, and relatively happy while we fought the challenges of her illness together . While other family members ran in the opposite direction, I devoted myself to those principles of care. I cut back on sleep, stress management, etc. and have since learned those sacrifices have cost me in terms of health. I can tell how excited you are about the new endeavor, and fully understand how you might consider cutting back on sleep, but if you can find a way, please cut back on something less important; even if it means a delay, or less broadcasts. If possible, please reexamine all activities while prioritizing sleep, and health.

In an import shop where I was the service writer, we used BG Induction service. We recommend that cleaning every 25-30,000 miles along with an oil change and a can of 44K EFI cleaner. This method cleaned the injectors, but also cleaning the combustion chamber and induction (air intake and throttle body) areas. City driving and idling DOES add more varnish/sludge to the engine area where as city driving keeps that to a bare minimal. We would suggest for people to taking a 40-60 minute drive on the interstate to heat up the engine and blow out the cobwebs once a month. City miles cut the life of an engine by at least 1/2. Great posting again AMD!

My 2020 RAV4 gets a lot of "around town" driving. Then I put it on the freeway, cruise control on, 70 mph for several miles, then drive it back at the same speed. Not only the combustion chambers, but the PCV system, engine oil, trans fluid and more get good and hot and helps to eliminate the moisture that gets into those fluids. The next time it's driven, it's like a young kid full of energy instead of an old person who can't move well. Also, that very slight tip-in hesitation is gone! The vehicle has "less than" 9000 miles. Not a typo! And yes I'm retired 6 years now but still work on my own vehicles. I may do overkill on preventative maintenance, but the proof is in the vehicles operation. They run great! More important. "You take care of and maintain your vehicle, it'll take care of you!" Thank you for this video. Hope the new building is coming along well!

You are such an amazing person, especially being so honest with your customers. If I lived close to where you will be opening up your shop I would definitely be bring my Tacoma to get it serviced at your shop. It is too bad that I live about 1,000 miles away. I like your analogy of how a combustion chamber is suppose to look. I think of it as the same way as to looking at the bottom of a skillet. I use a natural gas stove to cook on and the bottom of the skillet over time collects carbon deposits on it and I can still read the manufacturer's name on my skillets and even though those carbon deposits are on the bottom of the skillet it still isn't enough of a build up to bother with the heat transfer needed to cook food on it. If there was a lot of carbon deposits on the bottom a skillet as some point it would interfere with that heat transfer. I really wish there were mechanics like you with honesty and integrity. May God bless you and your family.

I am your classic, hard use old timer. Toyota is 20 years old. About 11 years ago, my mileage went down to about 3,000 miles a year. Yes, extremely short hops, months without going on the freeway. Travel to see a sick relative every few months gave an opportunity to do an Italian tune up. This year, for the first time, I had the chemical treatment at an oil change. I used to do an oil change once a year or every 3000 miles, whichever comes first. Now, I will be switching to every 6 months. My manual said nothing about the fuel filter. In fact it did not say it was in line. I simply looked and saw it. The manual also said nothing about PCV valve. And, the list goes on about what is not discussed in the owner's manual. It took research to obtain information from other owners. In fact, at one point the car was not passing smog. It was by luck that the head mechanic gave me a copy of the technical manual on how to reset things. I have accomplished that twice. With one car, I hit a boulder on the road and the catalytic converter had to be replaced. Knowing how expensive it was, I researched (the Toyota manual did not address) how to service it without buying a new one. Mine is bolted on and now I know how to do it (if ever necessary) and save $1000! My late father also owned a Toytoa Avalon. It survived him and went to my son because I would have it serviced when I would visit my dad on vacation. My goal is to have my Avalon still work for another 20 years. I replaced a seat cover and the headliner last week!

Learning more about what those services actually are and being told honestly whether you really need them or not and how to determine that on your own is essential for any car owner. Because of the honesty and integrity you're showing on this video, I'm sharing your video and channel with my adult kids and sister so they can be better prepared when dealing with their own vehicles.

Thank you for this video! Just went to my Honda dealership and they tried to sell my an induction service for $180. I told them "no thanks". Even American Honda says it's not necessary and that it's just a money grab for dealerships

AMD, Thanks for the great advice. Now I can take the money I saved by avoiding costly induction service and use it to have the soles of all my shoes polished by a team of fully qualified professionals. 😉

I know of a mechanic shop that is honest, does professional work at medium price range and they don't upsale. They can hardly keep up with the business they generate from that business model.

Your honesty and tips are awesome. I wish you worked on Honda’s. I did the induction service on mine for the first time and it has 215,500 miles (2004 Honda Element). I am the original

Owner. In your opinion when rear trailing arm bushings need replacement should you replace the bushings or the trailing arm? Thanks

Honda is infamous for carbon build up engines because of their direct injection.

I'm that retired guy that just runs 3 mile errands. But I take my 2001 Toyota Tundra 120K miles (original owner) on a 60 mile drive every month. 3 months ago I did a 2,000 mile road trip. A year ago I did a 2,700 mile road trip. In 22 yrs I've had 2 check engine lights. Both times it was a bad O2 sensor. Regularly maintained and runs forever. This car may just outlive me! If it does break I will get another Toyota...maybe that new Sequoia hybrid?

While I should have been looking at the carbon buildup all I could see was the crispness of that camera. My gosh man what a clear and sharp image. I want one.

Problem with buying one of these (or any Toyota) used is that unless there is written proof, you don't know if the original owner did the needed maintenance on time.

I would change all the fluids so at least you have that peace of mind. Engine, transmission, coolant, front diff/rear diff (awd), brake fluid and power steering changed. At least you can start from that point.

Good point brother about retired folks driving short trips. I notice the same by folks who work from home predominantly. The farthest they drive is a trip to the nearest Costco!

I change the drive belt of my honda as a preventive maintenance because it's so cheap. A stretched belt would make the auto tensioner work harder due to excessive play to maintain the tension and will possibly reduce its lifetime. and changing that is more expensive than the belt.

My car had about a year of short drives and then 3 years of heavy highway. I got the service because the dealership and the mechanic shop recommended it (along with a brake job). I will say, it did make a difference and I love the way my car is driving now.

I agree with everything you say. I am a car enthusiast and a basic mechanic and I think if you are honest with the customer they will come back over and over and also tell others about your service being an honest mechanic

Thank you sir. My mom has a 2019 Honda Cr-V with 36k miles. She just took it in for an oil change and they told her she needs the CVT transmission fluid changed and a DGI Induction service. We shall see about that now that I've watched your video. I sincerely appreciate your time and honesty. I wish your shop was in East Texas as I don't trust anyone to work on my new Tacoma. God bless

Thank you for being such an honest mechanic. May God richly bless you and your family 🙌🙌 That is some good advice for all mechanic. Word of mouth advertisement is the best.

Wonderful video. What a lot of mechanics never understand; treat the customer honestly, you make less money in the very short term; however the customer will return, and the customer will tell his friends and you'll have more customers. Soon you will have more work than you can handle

His comments about honesty are spot on. I'm a small business owner as well and I feel like I run an honest business. If a client doesn't need something I let them know. Dealerships and chains ALWAYS think short term because their greed outweighs their common sense (if they had any to begin with). Long-running businesses almost always have built their success on being honest.

In an earlier video, you suggested we get good gas from Top Tier gas stations so I found our nearest one and we only refuel there, even if they are a little more expensive…it’s worth it!! And monthly Italian tune-ups are fun…let those horses run!!

Thank u for your honesty! I’m a female struggling with rip off mechanics
@charlesb42673 ай бұрын
Believe me, they rip men "a new one" as well if they can get away with it and some shops pull a lot of scummy underhanded tactics to do just that. Thankfully not all shops/mechanics do that but to figure out who one can trust vs stay far away from.
