Blame Obama/Biden for C.A.F.E. Fleet fuel economy standards set in motion during the 2007 growth of a green religion. MFG's rushed new tech and products to enter the assembly line or fines the mfg's had no choice. New investments for tooling, methods, training and maintenance came at a cost to the end user/buyer. Electric cars were ruahed to market to lower the fleet standard fuel economy at lost profit, mfg's killed inefficient vehicles(Ford passenger vehicles), rushed by engineering standards of efficient turbo engines to market, lighter vehicles to improve fuel economy, thinner & less paint that was more enviromentally friendly - yadda yadda yadda. IT ALL COMES AT A COST TO THE BUYER. But yeah do not blame the politician BLAME THE MFG!?!? Don't play into the outrage propaganda of lazy people who simply scream "stick it to the man" - think about it and look deeper or suffer from your own inadequacies while over 40% of politicians become millionaires while in office.

@@mobilesolutions4u444 Well, therein lies the rub. The U.S. economy has been there twice in the recent past. The mid 80's and the early 2000's. It's a 25 yr cycle that started in the 1980's with Reagan's (largest in history) tax cuts for the rich and trickle down economics THAT NEVER HAPPENED. The economy implodes as it reaches an inflection point and housing is usually the culprit with everything else domino'ing off of that. Lending criteria is relaxed, people ask for and get higher and higher prices while the buyers qualify for the loan and then one day the saturation point is reached and the music stops. Whoever is left holding the mortgage note on the high priced house when the market takes a tumble loses. The rich are insulated completely and just get more rich as they simply step in and buy up all the paper on the foreclosed bank owned properties and make money either way the economy shifts while the middle class shrinks. The rich don't care how much cars cost.

What do you mean buddy? Good cars are cheaper than ever! You can have Bugatti beating performance, at least from 0-150mph for $89k msrp now in a Tesla model Plaid. If you hate electric cars, you can have Mclaren SLR performance that was $400k msrp in 2005 for only $80-90k now in a c8 corvette. New Ford Maverick trucks are literally cheaper @ base msrp than Ford model T's adjusted for inflation and get 40mpg! Think about how crazy that is, you are getting a truck, free A/C, apple carplay, driver assistance, and reliability for cheaper inflation adjusted price than a Ford model T! IDK why people are so fixated on the price of these gigantic luxury barges. You need to kill a whole herd of cows just to upholster 1 of these bloated trucks. Good performing cars are getting cheaper due to improving tech, materials and labor are not getting cheaper... In 500 years people might be complaining about the cost of space ships, just because the space ships they want to buy are super expensive and are stuffed with Bio-Engineered Mammoth leather and luxury crap that don't add jack squat to its utility. Meanwhile there exists compact sensible space ships made by Toyota that are super reliable and affordable that they ignore.

My wife and I were in the market for a truck, about 6 months ago, we wanted to use specifically for hauling heavy loads (we have several properties, including a small farm). I priced out a few trucks from different brands to provide us with the hauling needs we needed - nothing outrageous or luxurious - and all were well over $60k. So we bought a 1993 F250 with a 7.5L 460, it had just over 110k miles on it - got it for $10k cash. It has hauled everything we've needed it to with no problems. It's November. WTF are they going to do with the 2024 models when they couldn't sell the 2023 models?? These stealerships deserve to go bankrupt but I fear that the whole intention is to have a "great reset" by destroying the middle class. Once we're priced out of existence, the nation will be like Mexico: there will be only the drug lords and politicians and the poor. There will be no middle class any more and the housing market reflects this too. My parents' old house sold for barely $185,000 when they moved 10 years ago. It was relisted for a ridiculous $385,000. I truly fear I will be homeless because I cannot afford a house that's even smaller than that one. It wasn't anywhere near 1,200 sq ft and a house that's 2,000 sq ft in my city and all of the surrounding cities cost a whopping $250,000 and up. You cannot be "middle class" unless you make $90,000 a year after taxes and living expenses. But the politicians in DC don't care one bit and we are headed for an economic downfall that will make 2009 look amazingly prosperous.

I bought used from a dealer. Beginning of the year, I bought a 2019 Mazda3 hatchback with AWD for $22,300 with 18,500 miles on the clock. Little fun car, handles great once I ditched the OE Toyo for some grippy Pirelli P Zero and shed 4lbs on each tire. It's a 2019 base model (2023 it's the 2.5S Preferred, 3rd trim level) which is pretty well equipped for a base model. Leather steering wheel and shifter, HQ back up cam, 10.3" info, android auto, lane departure, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, blind spot, mirror blinkers, rain sensor, dual climate, best leatherette seats I've seen, with a leatherette wrapped dash, etc,. Anyway, I got a steal on it considering the mileage, CPO, clean car fax, full service history, extended 7 years 100k mile powertrain warranty. KBB had it listed at $26,700. Now if I were to buy it brand new, 2023 AWD Hatchback same exact spec, it would've cost me $32,200! $32,200 for a car that was initially $26,000 in 2019. A turbo model would've cost me $40,000 because of markups. No thanks, I love the performance and fun factor of small hatches, but $32-40k is a terrible investment. Not to mention the long wait because there was none in stock. I'm planning on keeping this car for over 10 years because the car market and prices are absurd and I can't imagine it going down with inflation. Most Americans are struggling just juggling a car payment, add mortgage or rent and it's devastating in today's economy. I kept my E90 BMW for almost 12 years, did most of the wrenching myself. Gave it to my sister and still do the maintenance for her. I plan on doing it with this car. I'll do little modifications to suit my driving needs over the years, EBC brake pads, gravity battery, rotary forged wheels, maybe an exhaust, and it'll still be a lot cheaper than buying new. Shame on these dealers and car manufactures for stealing from the people.

I bought a one year old 2005 Toyota Tundra with only 6000 miles for $25000 cash. It's 18 years old now and I've driven it for the past 17 years every day. Never had a car payment. One factor that might be underestimated is the effect of nearly 0% financing. I don’t mean for consumers - for dealerships holding inventory. For 5 years the cost of financing inventory had been dropping and reaching nearly nothing. At that point, there is much less financial pain to hold inventory on the lot. NOW that inventory costs money every day it stays on the lot. My suspicion is that dealerships haven’t adjusted to the new interest rates.

To show you just how ridiculously they have been marked up in a mere 4 years, my dad had my eye on a new red 2018 F-150 w/nearly all the bells & whistles sitting on a Ford lot. It was originally priced at $54,000. Note in 5 years prices are now double, BUT, that's not the end of the story. That same pick-up sat on the lot for the entire year until the 2019's came out, and by the time that happened the dealership had already marked that truck down 3 times, $5000 EACH TIME, and STILL couldn't sell it now at $39,000. When the 2019's came out they moved that 2018 to the back of the lot. My dad decided to make a low ball offer of $34,000. The dealership just wanting to be rid of it at this point didn't even haggle over it and took the offer. Here's where it gets even better. Along comes the pandemic in 2020, and after owning the truck for 18 months, he had only put about 3,000 miles on it (he's retired). In spring of 2021 he sold it, used, for... $77,000. He already owned 2 other vehicles so he didn't need it and saw the chance to make back double his money.

It shows how much they hedge their risk by grossly overvaluing these items which they intend to write-off at a loss. It essentially amounts to making a profit in the end if they fail to sell it and at those prices they can anticipate that they won't. Especially by this time of year. They are also preparing to mark them down to make it look like the buyer is getting a huge value compared to the supposed "original price"! Also, many corporations will actually want to have a failing business among their holdings to help offset the total amount of taxes being paid by the parent corporation, on behalf of their thriving businesses. One offsets the other when more than one company is owned and their taxes are the responsibility of one parent corporation.

Through every single holiday sales special the range was listed for the exact same price; $630. The only thing that changed was the MSRP that was crossed out - -$730- , -$799- , -$750- , etc. Even on non holiday days the price was $630 so, it didn't matter when I bought it. With these absolutely crazy prices our 2000 F-150 will have to do forever. Even when we were both working we would never have paid even 80,000 for a vehicle.

@@philliphols that sounds much better. It is funny, I just “like having a truck”. We have had ours for 22 years, so it was money well spent. We don’t use it as often as we once did when the kids were home and we were running to Home Depot all the time. But it is still very nice to have as a second vehicle and we still do buy plywood and other lumber occasional. In time we could probably make 50,000 work. I , as a somewhat older lady, find those tail gates with the steps for easy entry pretty appealing. That is really the only upgrade I would seek.

I feel they are about to be hit even harder cause I hear and see more and more people every day starting to turn and use their money to just keep their vehicles going. You can pick up rebuilt engines for max of 5k and transmissions about the same, in all to rebuild/replace all the main factors of a vehilce (suspension, engine, cooling system, transmission, etc.) will run you just over 20k and that would be quite possibly with labor included and again all those components would not have to be replaced at the same time. So in long term benefit repair your older vehicle now is super cost effective than buying an overpriced overtech peice of failing crap. I see more new vehicles needing repairs than older vehicles cause they are built cheaply and sold expensivly

Alot of people are quick to say that someone commuting in a truck is just stroking their ego. The reality is that while there are some people who are, a lot of everyday truck owners buy trucks because they are a jack of all trades type of vehicle that can handle daily commuting, comfort, luxury options, lots of power options, and of course capability. A loaded Camry with a v6 costs god damn near 40k now and a mid tier ford explorer or Jeep grand Cherokee costs well into the 50s. Suddenly a $65k 1500 pickup truck or $75k 2500 that can do everything those cars can do but also do the truck stuff when you need it doesnt sound like a bad deal, and that’s why alot of people are buying them as daily drivers.
