I'm sure you have seen videos of neglected engines and transmissions that sound like junk with only 100k miles. Like Scotty says, "oil is cheap, engines are expensive."

07 V8 tundra, 385000 km. Love it. Sure I’ve had to replace some parts. Brake rotors, exhaust, shocks, and I had new leaf springs made for it with an extra leaf for better towing. Overall a great truck. I plan to run it as long as I can.

actually you can do it with only a partial disassembly on the dash. Remove the top cover which is just held in by 2 7mm bolts and the rest is clips and that will give you access to the mix box top bolts, each are 10mm. Then you disassemble the lower dash kick panel which is just 3 7mm bolts and then undo the clips holding the glove box inside. Fold out the glove box and remove the 7mm bolts holding it in. Next remove the passenger side sill plate cover which is held in by clips and you should have enough room to undo the rest of the bolts and move the mix box out of the way just enough to slip the condenser core out. However, this is actually an uncommon problem. The majority of HVAC leaks on GM trucks are from the massive condenser up front. These are easy to replace and there is a retrofit that gives it more support so it doesn't form stress fractures around the ports for the tubes. Parts are around $150-$200 also there are vents leading to the back passenger compartment in these pickups. They're under the seat. There is an option for rear zone controls as well, same as on the Suburban.

Call me lucky, but the AC on my 2011 Silverado still blows cold enough to make snow. Got 120K miles. I will agree that the latch is garbage. Mine broke out of warranty. When I pointed out that it shouldn't have failed so soon, the service manager called GM and they agreed to pick up half the cost. Not perfect, but better than nothing. If something breaks prematurely on a vehicle out of warranty, it's a good idea to ask if there's a goodwill warranty. Might save you some money.

Happy 2018 Tundra owner. V8, 6A transmission, and bulletproof. I just don't trust turbos - not even from Toyota. I'll pay for more gasoline and keep it forever. 5 1/2 years old and it is flawless. So much power. 12-13mpg city and 17-18 highway. That's fine to me. And my favorite thing is the whole rear window rolls down. In SW Florida I use that every day. Beautiful truck.

My 2002 dodge ram 2500 5.9 cummins is a very strong truck, no issues, original evap, heater core etc. 398,360 24mpg hwy, still runs like new...for those that don't know it, the 3/4 ton Dodges back in the day, the bodies were made of galvanized steel, the whole body/box....it don't get any better than that, my truck has 0 rust 21 years and 5 months on the road..

I got a 2013 1500 WT Silverado and I have 206,000 miles. Everything in my truck is manually operated. Manual door locks. Manual windows. Manually adjusted seats. Naturally aspirated 4.3 liter V6 that has gotten up to 24 mpg. Rear wheel drive with a posi-lock diff. I plowed through 22 inches of "Lake Effect" snow with it. Perfect daily commuter truck. No problems yet.

My neighbor was die hard Dodge so he owned several Rams over the years. He said that they just kept getting worse and worse. Eventually he had enough and bought an F-150. He said the Ford was better in about every way to the Dodge. Those older D100 trucks with the slant 6 were pretty solid but the new Rams are a symphony of problems. But I wouldn't touch an F-150 hybrid with an 11 foot pole.

Scotty, a few things I noticed when you were diagnosing the Ram. You demonstrated a capacitive discharge when you touched the disconnected positive and negative cables together, if anyone were to try that you MUST make sure that BOTH batteries are disconnected if you have a vehicle with an auxiliary battery for engine stop start! Also, if you’re going to disconnect the battery positive cable but leave the negative connected, make sure to insulate and isolate the positive cable so it can’t touch the positive post.

Scotty is behind the times. a 100 ohm resistor is required to clear a computer to prevent damage... and that is a VERY bad idea on many of the more current vehicles, regardless.

Had a new Silverado back in 96 that had problems from water pump going out at 26,000 miles and full of plastic parts in the cabin. Replaced that with A 99 Dodge and from then on, it's been Dodge/Ram. Never had a problem with transmission or engine. Never looked back. You get more for your money as far as accessories are concerned.

Scotty, none of those things are actual pickup trucks. I have a 1993 Chevy 1/2 ton, 2 wheel drive, 2 door standard cab truck with an 8 foot bed. It has a 350 V8 engine and 700R4 automatic. It also has a bench seat that 3 people can fit comfortably. I bought it new. It suits all my needs. I can get 8 foot sheets of plywood or drywall in it, or 8 foot 2x4s, 2 dirt bikes or a quad, with plenty of rooms for fuel cans, ramps, and a bunch of other stuff. It has 321,000 miles. I just replaced both the engine and transmission. It's an AZ truck with zero rust. I'm 64, and see no reason why this truck won't last the rest of my life. The so called "trucks" they make today are not only junk, but they are almost completely worthless as a truck even when they do run.

Had a 2022 Tundra as a rental for 10 days. Turbo’s were quite and quick acceleration . Two issues : the transmission was a little jerky. One tank of fuel only last 300 miles. My O8 GMC Sierra still has originally AC .Engine and 5.3transmission have never had any issues with 235k miles on 5.3 motor Bought it during bankruptcy. Best truck I ever had.

Had an 08 suburban, ok gas mileage, used oil like crazy. GM said as long as it didn’t loose over 1 quart per 1,000 miles it was within specs. Kept a case of oil in the back and every couple fill-ups added a quart.

Great vid. I was highly pleased not to see an F-150 on here. My 2015 has the v-8 with103,000 miles and ive fixed nothing but new battery and swapped brake fluid. Gets 17mpg commuting with bigger tires. Tows an 8000lb camper pretty well at 11mpg. Still lovingit!

My grandson is an auto/truck mechanic. When we were looking for a new vehicle, he advised us to NOT buy a domestic vehicle, period, because as you pointed out, they break and also their warranties are so short, most issues manifest only AFTER it's expired. At least the oriental brands have a much better warranty.

I've had 3 Chevy Silverado 1500's one 2000, and two 2005s. I've been super happy with mine. My 2000 has 260,000. The other two have 140,000 & 160,000 miles. I wouldn't buy one after 2007, but I highly recommend them.

I have 15 with 118k miles. Outside of oil changes and 4 sets of tires, this old girl still runs like a charm. For years it avg about 14 mpg. Note to anybody with a car or truck with over 100k miles, use a fuel additive and the mpg will improve. I'm treated two tanks of gas, the cheapest one over the counter or Walmart for less then $5. dollars. Now I'm getting 17mpg city and 22-26 hwy. Peace!

I used leak stop refrigerant in my 2012 Silverado and it worked! I had to charge it 3 times though. It blows cold now, and isn't leaking anymore. Been good for 2 years now.

Well I’ve owned a Texas edition 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn for about 3 years now. Bought w 50k miles and now has 72k. No complaints so far. Better in every way than my last 3 Silverado 1500 LTZs. Hopefully my Ram will stay reliable for years to come.

Back in 2002, Ford, Dodge and Chevy made great trucks. I ordered my 2002 dodge ram 2500 slt diesel in 2001, took delivery in Feb 2002. It has 398,360 miles. Gets 24mpg hwy, has original evaporater, heater core etc. But I change radiator fluid every 100,000k.

I have the 2004 Sierra 1500 SLE (5.3l RWD), and I'm happy with it. 213K so far. I will replace/repair whatever it needs for as long as the truck lasts. Barring it being smashed by a meteor, it should still be in the driveway when I get a ride in a different vehicle. A one-way ride to the cemetery, that is.

I wouldn't own any truck a Harley Davidson motorcycle won't fit in the bed. If it doesn't have an 8ft bed it's just a poor station wagon. I replaced the air conditioner in my 2005 chevy silverado it only has 71K on it. That's a job to you have to take off the inside fender and wrestle the compressor around the frame. All that work and now it's leaking someplace I can't find but not bad..

About the chevy truck: some time ago I contacted GM on several different occasions to bring to their attention that about 95% of the vehicles that I see being driven on the road that have a problem with the ligts not working (headlights or minor lights) appear to be GM vehicles. That did seem to be a complete waste of time. Apparently GM is not interested in making more reliable vehicles!

Great video. I love my 2008 Chey Avalanche 183000 miles and still running strong. I drive to work everyday very conservatively and consistently make between 17.5 and 18.5 mpg. About 550 miles between fill ups. Seeing how newer trucks are made my next vehicle will either be a 2013 Avalanche or 2014 Suburban.

I got a 97 Dodge Ram 5.9 liter 1500, runs like a top with 250,000 miles on it. It also has no tranny slippage. A stock 5.0 Mustang, I can leave about 2 bus lengths behind me with almost a 5,000 lb and with a 5 inch lift kit on it. The truck is damn near Bulletproof. I've thrown everything at it, and the guy I bought it for a brand new used to this an elk truck in Oregon. The trucks after that just turned in a crap.

Anything electric is more than enough for me to walk away from . I have been driving a basic 1990 ranger since 1998 . I paid $ 3,000 for it . It also had only 21,000 actual miles on it . I now have 184,000 and other than normal wear and tear and maintenance , it has been the most reliable truck I have ever own . I am always asked if I want to sell it .

I'm still driving my 1994 dodge ram.. v6. I got it free 4 years ago. . My bud and I replaced everything we could reach. I put almost 30 k on it.. its been a WORKING TRUCK. I'm already collecting my warranty parts. It hauled my boat.. motorcycle. my moving trailer. From Minnesota to Kansas several times. Everything on it still works. Even the license plate light. I'll bet ANY new truck owner that they're WORKING TRUCK.. not show truck... will last 30 years. I'll bet . Probably gonna replace front suspension. It's still cheaper than buying any used vehicle at this point. Let alone a new truck.

Scotty, I have a 2014 Silverado 1500. You are spot on, but the list of known issues is much worse. 6L80E transmission will give it up at 100k, because of a junk TC, thermostat that gets it too hot, and poor quality fluid. The engine has AFM issues that causes lifters to fail. The paint is “flashed” to infrared cure that gives it a very poor paint job. The AC has bad condensers AND evaporators. Leaking 3rd brake light. The sliding rear window explodes due to a faulty defroster. All this for trucks that they charge a stupid amount for now!

I have a 14 Sierra, I actually haven’t had any issues with mine, I’m at 400000kms on the stock transmission still, I purchased mine new and it’s been good to me, only things I replaced were condenser and transmission lines aside from basic wear items, if you were to look under the hood you wouldn’t find any oil leaks or anything either, maybe I just got lucky

Scotty, my old 2016 Tundra with the big V8 gets around 14 in town and 19 highway. Mine was $39,000 December 2015, that was bad enough, but now they’re double that price. I just pulled a 26’ body Jayco camper, 10 mpg, oh well. Only disappointing thing so far is my brakes were shot at 50,000 miles, not towing, and I’m gentle on my vehicles. It’s my Armageddon truck, meaning the last one I can buy, they’re crazy with those prices, ugh!

I've got the 2015 Silverado LTZ with the 6.2 in it....can't argue too much with what he said here, but overall I've been pretty happy with the truck and haven't had any major problems with it...then again I had only recently started making the kind of money where I could buy higher end vehicles when I bought it so my tastes were pretty tame....up until then I had always driven some pretty crappy vehicles. Anyway, I honestly think vehicles in general have just gotten too complicated and have way too many bells and whistles...in other words too much crap that will eventually break and you will not be able to fix on your own.

I know it’s been a long time since you even remember writing this comment. But I agree with the bells and whistles. But the thing I do like are the lane, and forward looking alerts. I fell asleep while my wife and I were going 85 on a toll road. I was driving, and didn’t feel tired, no nodding off, my wife was half asleep….only the edge of the “braille” woke me in time to prevent us from dying at the bottom of a 60’ or so ditch. I will say though, it will be very, very cold in a place that is very hot, before I let my car drive itself!

I agree that not all of the new bells and whistles are necessarily bad (especially in situations like you experienced...glad you came out ok). But I just miss the simplicity of old vehicles. My brother in law just bought an '84 Land Cruiser (needs a LOT of work and assembly) but we were going through it last night and you at least feel like you can get the thing back on the road at some point even if it is in 100 pieces in his garage. These new vehicles you may as well forget even trying simple things unless you have all sorts of specialized tools and gadgets and specific knowledge. I don't know I guess I'm just getting old. I might actually disagree with you on the self driving car thing though...I mean if we're going to have these rolling computers then I'm all for it being able to drive for me on long boring trips up to the cabin and that sort of thing so I can read a book or take a nap. But I do admit it would be hard for me to really trust it...but if you think about it, how much can you really trust the humans out there that are driving? Lots of people on the road that probably shouldn't be, you know?

Still putting along in my '94 Dodge Dakota. I know it's not rated very well, maybe even bottom of the barrel. But this one runs dandy after I replaced every sensor known to man on it. I can do almost all the work it needs, as it's a simple old school truck. It has a distributor cap, try to find that on a new Tundra. With a Flowmaster muffler, the V6 sounds awesome rowing the gears on the 5 speed stick. It's paid for, license plates are cheap and so is insurance. The bolts are all inch sizes!! Best of all it rides like a Buick.

Chevrolet tech here, on those 2015 that front hvac condenser were common to leak on their lines. If you are facing the truck inside the grill you can see on the right side of the condenser line it was known to have small cracks on the welds of the line. An yes 15 hour job for removing the evaporator but weren't common to have leaks, had replaced more evaporator cores in Cadillacs Ats more than silverado. Is as if GM was doing it on purpose with cadillac so customers will spend a ton of money to get their cars repair.

Interesting that he picked the Tundra as a truck he wouldn’t touch, then has very little to say that’s seriously that’s wrong with it. More positive than his initial impression. I’ve had a ‘23 Platinum for a few months with no complaints so far. I can barely feel the shifts and the engine has an abundance of snort, even pulling a travel trailer. As a retiree who doesn’t put many miles on the mileage is quite low on my list of concerns and his initial concerns about the longevity of the turbos is a non-issue for me personally since I won’t live long enough to put 150,000 miles on it, probably not even 100,000. If I wanted a daily work truck these things might be more important.

Our 2014 Ram 1500 hasn't had any major issues up to this point, ganted it only has about 51,000 miles on the odometer. It was my granfather's truck and he passed in 2018. Before that one he had a 98 1500 that was pretty solid up until around 2013 when the right wheel bearing blew. I think the only other issue is had was it needed an O2 sensor and alternator at some point. The 2014 was built in Michigan and so was the 1998 I think, so I guess that's why both held up so well compared to the Mexican built ones.

I own a Mexican built Ram. A 2018 1500 crew cab. It’s been flawless through 70k miles. Fit and finish is very good. No rattles, squeaks or vibrations. It’s a pretty well built truck.

I do love my 2017 Ram 1500 Hemi with its 90k miles on it. 2 years since i bought it and it's still the perfect match for me. I do love my 19mpg average (and i'm not always gentle on it) descent tow capacity and always ready to go. Sure thing, nobody will be able to sell me one of theses crapy small turbo engine in a big rig. V8 power still the best you can get. There's no replacement for displacement. And for Ram product, just give it some love and everything will be perfect

I just received my 2023 Tundra. With a motor not broken in I get 20 MPG on freeway. Seeing 17 MPG on my 12 mile work commute. Way quiter than my 2007 Tundra. This is by far an awesome driving truck. Love it!

We're $300 and 2 shops in to trying to find where the leak is because leak dye isn't showing up anywhere. I'm going to ask the current shop if they have the meter you used. We're going through about 1 lb of R134A a week. I'm tired of fussing with it!

Ugh. That certainly does defeat most of the purpose of a smaller truck. I can nurse 18-20 mpg out of my F150 5.0 crew at highway speed using cruise control 5-10 mph over the speed limit. Believe it or not, I get 20-23mpg on secondary highways or faster 2 lane roads in the 45-55mph range. As soon as you break 60 with these 4 wheeled bricks, you pay for it!

I own a 2015 Silverado 1500 LTZ just like the first truck only mine is a full size bed. I have owned it for about 6 years and put roughly 110,000 miles on her bought used. She now has roughly 186,000 miles and no issues at all. I have only replaced the thermostat and one hose since owning it. The AC still blows ice cold and motor runs strong. I only put mobile one and I do all my own oil changes. I will easily break the 200k mark with no doubt and my truck still looks beautiful!

The GMC should have ducts underneath the back of front seats for the HVAC system. Ive seen several manufacturers having issues with the evaps leaking and 20 hrs to fix em. Ugh manufacturers hate us. The hateful thing with that truck is the lifters. Love the videos

I sure miss my 1996 Chevy Cheyenne 1/2 ton 4X4 pickup. Got it relatively cheap, put Silverado seats and wheels on it, Z71 Bilstein shocks and skid plates. It had the 350 Vortec engine and 5-speed manual transmission. When I traded it in, it was about 7 years old, had about 110,000 miles on it, and it was running like brand new. Still had the original clutch and rear drum brakes on it. I could get 21-22 mpg on the highway with it. I could do most of the maintenance on it in my driveway, too. Sure, no carpet, power "anything", so what. Less crap to BREAK.

Gome on GM. Miss my 95 z71. Think was a tank. Well made and sounded great. They really need to make better simple cars. My dD just got a new chevy and its crazy how many simple things they cut off now that used to be standard.

I'll stick with my 2021 Sequoia Platinum with the 5.7 NA V8. I get 10.7 to 11.1 pulling my Airstream and 16 to 17 mpg around town, 18 to 19 mpg highway non towing

The Dodge pickup started so that was enough...Reminds me when I was a TV Repairman (1980s) that when delivering a certain model Television, we were to leave the engine running because by the time we left the customer's house, chances were that the TV had gone out again.

@@jkeelsnc These happened to be made by Amiral TV and were notorious for failure. The joke was that trouble shooting started with the power cord.
