I am an Englishman. once a barbershopper. I first heard the Dealers Choice in 1975 and later, I went to the Convention in Salt Lake City (1980) and met all four of them, getting a signed photo that I still have. A few years later The Insiders, came to England and two of their members stayed with me at my house and together with our quartet and chorus played the local theater! So much fun!

Man, I wept. I fuckin wept I cried like a lil baby seeing this live. DC was the first quartet I ever found studio work of on Spotify back in, like, middle school. Spent the first years of my life wanting to sound like them. I’m well beyond being scared to meet gold medalists but I damn near fell over myself introducing myself to Gary Parker afterwards. Still can’t believe I was lucky enough to see this live.

Roman, the first show I saw was in the BCPA in February of '74. They were the headliners, having won only seven months prior. They were so far ahead of other quartets of the time, technically speaking.

They were probably the first quartet I loved as a future barbershopper. Gail Arbetter

Absolute legends but what on earth was this lighting person doing?

I was lucky enough to be in the audience. I think the lighting tech / show producers misjudged how much the audience was going to demand to celebrate them. 1. The Dealer’s Choice was such an influential quartet in their own right. 2. To have a 50th year champ where all the original members sang was a special moment. Twice, the audience spoke with their appreciation, applause and cheers, demanding more time to recognize the Dealer’s Choice. What I remembered from being in the audience was how long the applause was, not that the lights went down twice. Seeing the video I now remember that happening.

They were the first to have all four winners alive at year fifty. If the BGSU guys make it four more years, they'll be the second. They were in their nearly twenties when they won, so here's hoping...

Still THE BEST! The energy! Shame it's changed so much! Them, Keepsake, Acoustix? The style will never match those and the era that preceded them. What will happen when the dresses come in?

Nothing..... I hope you'll be happy when a another women's quartet wins a medal this year 🤣
