Dealing with a bent track rod on my Land Rover

My track rod bent and I think not using this bracket was the cause

You have lifted your LR with a jack by using the track rod instead of the axle. I know because I just did this muppetry and have the exact same bend (and my stay was in place)

I don’t think that’s quite correct as this parti isn’t fitted to the discovery as standard. I do like your in the field tracking method.

Yeah I may be wrong. It was a pretty "off the cuff" video. I had the tracking checked at a garage after this and they said it was spot on, so it's better than the string method

I bent a track rod on a boulder and I used the hi lift handle slid over the rod for leverage, and the tow ball as a fulcrum and got it straight enough to get me home. Until then I had baulked at the price of a heavy duty track rod, but I decided to invest in one and it's been good for years, though I was concerned that it was too thick for the diff guide to be refitted. A friend got a cranked track rod that kinks up and tucks behind the diff/axle housing, it's just that you can't turn that one to wind the wheel alignment in/out, but probably a better overall design for clearance and protection.
