You my friend are a hero in my eyes! My discovery (1997 3.9) has the death wobbles when I hit a bump at any speed over 60 miles. The shocks are good, I changed the bearing & even the rotor on the drivers side but its still there!! So as I have a 1998 for spare parts trying to get the Track-joints off is a pain.......till now.......thanks. I'll be having a beer for you hahah.

100% agree on the paddocks track rods ... not normally a fan of the cheaper kit but on those they've done a good job ... can't beat grease-able in every aspect of life ... with our Landy's that is :D

The track rod end is universal. Either fitted to a steeering box drop arm or to the steering arm on the the swivel housing it is the same.

Brilliant! Favourite part was where you demonstrated removal using the hammer as an anvil. Great to see before doing it. Cheers, Clint

Great Video. Love the Hammer trick. Just want to verify: When replacing both track rod ends on a 2003 Discovery (U.S.), do I need two RTC5869 ends, or one RTC5869 and one RTC5870.

Hi, Wondering if you have made a video showing the install of the track rod to the swivel pin housing. Is there a special technique in fitting them. Thank you

I know this is off topic though have you made a video on how to fill a TDI engine with coolant avoiding air pockets?

What a trick for tightening up the nut when the ball joint is just spinning?

Clamp it down with something like a pair of mole grips or if you can put a bottle jack under the head of the track rod end use that to bind up the ball in the socket. A worst case scenario is to cut it off...

Hello there!! I'm going crazy over here in Colorado trying to figure out a problem on my 1999 P38 Range rover. I had new tires put on. The P38s alignment seemed perfect. I wanted to make sure the alignment was perfect so I took it into breaks plus which is the alignment shop. They told me that my outer track rod needs to be replaced so I had them replace it then align it. Now my P38 tends to pull to the right!!! It's really noticeable when I'm on the high way. It's not really bad, but it slightly pulls to the right side of the road no matter what lane I'm in. What should I do to correct this issue!!? Thx so much!

Hi sorry just saw your post here,... tyre pressure can effect the steering so best to check them, if it's not the camber of the road that are effecting the pull then I would take it back to where they tracked it up and tell them what is happening

OK; I got four and they've been changed. But now the power has died!! It's OK in 1st and 2nd, but as I change into 3rd I get low revs and no power, and the poor car crawls along. Help - what have they done? It also idles very erratically, sometimes fine, and sometimes badly; and occasionally dies when I slow down. Is this something new, or have they done something when changing the tie-rods? Help - or point me in the direction I need to go.

Doubt that anything with the steering mechanical components has caused that sort of problem. Not an issue I can deal with from here but it sounds like a fuel issue if it is a diesel.

I am in India; my mechanic says I need TWO tie rod ends per front wheel - total 4. I had only bought two: one RH and one LH. What do I need? Two or four?
@trailerfitter2
@trailerfitter2 10 жыл бұрын
You need one per each end of the track rod and then there are 2 more for the drag link.

I would say you only need to replace the ones that are faulty.... unless they all are.

With regards to the grease nipple. Are you saying we should be using them to add grease or by default they come greased?
@trailerfitter2
@trailerfitter2 7 жыл бұрын
they come greased if they are without nipples. If they have nipples they are to be greased regularly.
