Im getting ready to swap the transmission out on my f10, what else do you recommend replacing while the trans is out? I know the transmission mount, the giubo and the driveshaft center support are on my list so far... Super helpful videos as always by the way.

Yeah, I was planning on running the new unit. It’s from a 2016 so I’m hoping there are some improvements in the software. RVG has already offered to remote code it for me, but if that falls through I’ll reach out.

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear that bruh. I’ve had a tranny fail on my past e39. It’s not an exact timeframe when it’ll fail. This is why I prefer a stick to an automatic.

Apparently, if service on the transmission was not done early on, it is best to leave it alone. That last service you have done on the transmission might have been the culprit. Great content thou. Nice find on the replacement transmission. How much would something like that would cost? Where would one buy used transmission like that?

Very true! I actually found my new transmission at a junkyard in California. It’s from a 2016 435i and has 59k miles. I got the combo for $475 shipped.

Did you replace the transmission oil cooler and oil lines also. These are also full of metal shavings.

God, I got my 535i sitting out side and the oil cooler housing constant leaks and it’s gasket went bad - seeping oil into the coolant line…. And the leakage drips on to my serpentine and Swells it eventually causing it the belt to shred itself prematurely.

Yeah, you definitely need to get that fixed. My Valve cover, Oil filter housing and Oil Cooler gaskets were my first maintenance items, before I even started the channel.

I just put a new turbo on my 335i and now I have a 101f01 code I can never get a break 😅

I’ve been battling with that code for over 1.5 years now (2012 535i). Check/clean all THREE air mass sensors in the intake tract. Make sure all your connections are air tight (smoke test the heck out of everything between the air filter and throttle body). I’ve also heard of people having luck fixing this code by replacing the boost solenoid and even the oil filler cap. There is also a re-learning process you should do after each thing you try which involves unplugging a certain vacuum line, letting the car idle for 15 min, turning the car off, reconnecting the line, and clearing the code. Good luck!

Sorry! How long did this happen after you changed the fluid? Do you think that had anything to do with it?

Yeah, I think it help kill the transmission. The fluid was changed around 8k miles before the transmission died. I think the transmission had too many miles when I did the first change and then adding all the extra horsepower didn’t help.

@@JohnsonMotorsports Thanks for your reply! I spoke with the owner of an Indy shop about this today and he felt the cut off for changing the fluid Is about 100,000 miles, if it’s never been done. It’s a Catch-22… If you change it at high mileage the trans may fail, if you don’t do it the transmission is gonna fail eventually too, it’s just a matter of when. And, for sure about more HP.

Yeah, I agree. I was around 145k miles when I did mine. So that was my issue. I couldn’t decipher my cars service history, but it seemed the previous owner had a lot of service done on the car, so I rolled the dice thinking the transmission had been serviced before.

My 2015 535x drive just crossed 70k miles. I'm considering dropping the pan and changing the fluid. Thoughts? No issues at this time. Car drives and shifts perfectly.

@@kjhnsn7296 Not a bad idea. You want to do the transmission service as close to 60k intervals as possible. Per ZF the manufacturer. I wouldn’t wait too long.
