Happened to me 3 times on the same car. 2 repaired under warranty and eventually had to fork up money on the last repair. Replacing spark plugs and coil will normally fix it. I also had to replace a fuel injector. 5K repair at BMW

Problem solved. Sent to bmw new plugs fitted using approved spark plug socket no gapping ngk laser iridium. 2 coil packs changed out. Running mhd stage 2 plus all day every day as smooth as ever

I have a 2013 328i xdrive got driverrain malfunction turned out to be timing chain and guides broke, luckily I bought a warranty and its covered.

I get this malfunction maybe 1 in every 10 starts. I turn it off and then back on and it always goes away. I think it’s may be the starter

I bought a F30 320i and when I accelerate fast the drivetrain got popped up I am driving it like this for 6 months but after watching this video I began to be little worry to know what the problem is cus the car driving normally I don't have any further dashboard lights or something

I have a F10 550i and im having this issue now. When i accelerate fast, the car stalls a bit and the drivetrain pops up and engine shakes, i shut the engine off and restart, the engine stops shaking but the light pops back up. Its intermittent!

I took my car for a EGR recall as I noticed smoke coming from the exhaust on a couple of occasions. The car had no warning lights but as the smoke was symptoms of EGR fault I decided to call BMW. They said my car should have an urgent recall recovery to their site. They arranged for a recovery truck to come and collect the car. Prior to collection the car was running and had no warning lights. Once it got inspected by BMW dealership, I got a call saying that the recall had nothing to do with the errors the car was experiencing and that the car is no longer running. That it had a drive train warning light appeared and vehicle no longer runs. They won't give me explanations as to what happened or why this appeared. They are now trying to say that this was already a fault, making it seem like they received a non running car. Any one faced a similar situation and what can be one to have them rectify this. In my perspective, if he car was in working order before the recall, I should receive a working car as I had initially had. Any help or comment is much appreciated

I have a 2014 535i XDrive and had the Spark Plugs replaced 3 weeks ago. The next day when I drove the car, I felt the car choke couple times at about 50 speed, I thought it might be the road. It happens always daily. Today I drove on the freeway at speed 70, the car started choking or vibrating more and more, it was worse at the stop sign and suddenly the screen displayed : Drivetrain Malfunction, needs to drive moderately and check at the BMW Service center, plus the Engine Light went on. After I turned off the engine and rested for about 20 minutes, it drove like normal and don't see the Malfunction status showing up. Tonight I took a little spin at speed 50 to 70, it vibrated twice and drove like normal. So I don't really know if the Spark Plugs are defected or something else.

I’ve got a 116i F20 2014, I’m having issues with the drivetrain. I have already changed the high fuel pressure pump but still having the issue. I have took it to a bmw specialist garage and they have said it could be the timing chain, do you agree that it could be that?

I have an x5 2017 xDrive35i and all the lights turned on with the drive malfunction and the drive tran while driving.got home turned it off waiting a few hours and now it doesn’t want to turn on

It means that air/fuel ratio is bad or sparks if you have petrol engine. Cold air is more dense so ecu needs to put more fuel to compensate, so ecu sends signal to injectors to put more fuel but they cant do it then the drivetrain error comes up as a safe mode. So you can have a leak in fuel pipe system or weak fuel pump or injectors are stuck/clogged etc. Or if sparks/coils are weak and cant ignite in the moment that ecu asked can give the same error. Even bad compression can give you issues like this but it cant be told with precision until all is tested.

I'm driving BMW 3201 sport, my Mac wheel is damaged by the porthole n my front left Tire becomes flat more often so recently I'm experiencing drivetrain can it be affect by that?

My 2013 435i develops misfire under hard acceleration then throws drivetrain malfunction code So initial code I got was 118001 mixture too lean After drivetrain malfunction comes up codes are as follows 14001 combustion misfires several cylinders fuel injection switched off 140010 combustion misfires several cylinders detected 140301 combustion misfires cylinder 3 fuel injection is switched off 140301 combustion misfires cylinder 3 detected

I’m moving from Northern Ontario to British Columbia because the gas is pure GARBAGE. Highest you can get in our region is 91 with over 15% ethanol… My X3 takes 92 or 93. (Over 10% causes issues)

I picked up a used 520d and 20 miles down the road hit this error in ECO MODE. I have yet to scan the car yet, but the error disappeared anyway.

@@tony6090 N, but DPF regeneration is a pain (noisy!) Soot level climbs quick round town, I mainly do motorway driving and soot level quickly reduces when DPF regen requested or automatically comes on. Issue I have now is that motorway/highway M27 has road works for the next two years (can't get up to speed!!).
