I don't know where society is heading. I have real concerns about the use of social media and its darker side. For people to be able to put so much pressure on someone to the point of them deciding that they can no longer carry on with life is despicable. I have been on the end of something similar recently, and have been disgusted with what people think is acceptable to say and do. Thank you so very much for having the 'responsibility' to bring up and discuss this growing problem. Why can't we live and thrive together?

Lee killed herself. Nobody else killed her or made her do it. She likely had a chemical imbalance. Its sad, but it happens.

@@VanInhalin I'm afraid I respectfully disagree. I've heard a couple of people saying that it's nobodies fault that she did it, because she had depression and therefore what other people did had no bearing on it. But I don't think that's right, because depression makes you vulnerable, not necessarily inevitably going to harm yourself. Some people can't cope and need support and help, but also they need other people to be kind and responsible for their actions and aware of how those actions might impact on a vulnerable person. I think it's all our responsibility to make sure our behaviour and words doesn't become the trigger for someone in a vulnerable state harming themselves. Suicide often has a trigger. In this case it seems extremely likely from what family and friends are saying, that the trigger was indeed online bullying (in fact Lee appeared on an episode of Eamon and becs podcast just a month ago and even speaks about how badly the online bullying had affected her mind state). She didn't need to die just because she had depression. Dying happened only with the extra pressure from external sources. That being the bullying.

Maybe if canada's covid lockdown wasn't so authoritarian she could have visited family and still be alive. Pretty much anyone under 30 that kills themselves is due to a chemical imbalance.

@@VanInhalin On behalf of the "chemically imbalanced"... suicide doesn't "just happen". That is a stone cold way to view humanity. She was relentlessly bullied. Full stop. No debate. The evidence has been removed by the users (thankfully there are places like "The Way Back Machine" to keep copies of these things so her family and friends can sue for damages - it's the internet kids... you yell into the void and the void will track you...). Personally I hope Dave2D looses every single dime he earned by being a disgusting human being. He's trying to raise money off of her death. That should tell you all you need to know about this "man". This happens to our children. This happens to our teenagers. This happens to adults. People being perfectly awful to their fellow humans has somehow become acceptable. It has to stop. So sad to hear about Lee. I’ve been realising and noticing myself how negative and opinionated KZbin/social media can be, it really can become soul destroying. No matter how many positive comments you get the negative ones always stick. I’m learning to remove any negative comments and not give the trolls the satisfaction of a reply! Happy camping guys!

I was saddened to hear of Lee's passing. She was a lovely person. Sadly, I lost my younger son to suicide a few years ago. Like Lee, he was a lovely kind hearted, hard working and intelligent young person. May I say to anyone suffering, whether from cyber bullying or from any other cause, please ask for help. I know it is hard, and potentially embarassing to confide your thoughts to someone. But please do seek help. Death is never the best alternative. And to you, Nick and Sarah, you have so many people that love you. Never forget that. Don't let the hatred of the trolls break through the love of the thousands of people that follow you.

Depression can drag you down so far. It is scary sometimes. I have been "in the pit" for years. I live alone and am a little shunned by family who live within a 5-minute walk. They can be so cruel in their little cliques. I try to make uplifting comments to people like you cuz you give me entertainment and laughter. The trolls are unhappy people who want to drag you down to their level. It makes me angry. I think you two are full of love and peace.

She had so much to offer in helping others. It was tough enough to battle depression but to be bullied online in front of tens of thousands of people....is criminal. The bullying needs to stop! When I started out doing KZbin years and years ago, even one single negative comment was gut-wrenching. But one day I saw another KZbinr I respected answer a hate comment in a calm and polite manner. He said "I make videos for those who like it, not for those who don't. Which means your opinion is completely irrelevant." That was an epiphany. From that day onward I never felt bad about negativity on the internet ever again. It gave me peace of mind. People who don't like you or the content you make are completely irrelevant because they're not the people you're doing it for anyway, so why should their opinion even matter? They're just nameless faceless people on the internet. They just don't matter.

What happened to Lee was a real chock not only to van lifers but to subscribers too. She was the essence of LIFE, so vivid, in the moment and so radiant. I am still in disbelief and cant get it in my head that this soul of light is gone. May she rest in peace, and all my thoughts goes to her family, friends, and her large community. My thoughts about being a subscriber to a channel is that i am privileged. Privileged to take part of your lifes, ups and downs, i learn a lot, i get to see allot from places i cant go my self. I feel so lucky to be able to travel through your eyes, and i cant imaging being rude, nasty or just a D--K as a gratitude to what you are so generously sharing. What this has taught me is to not being silent when i see comments that are out of line, that is offensive and rude. We all in a democratic society have the freedom to speak, you can say what you want, think what you want, but that is NOT equal to have the right to hurt or bullying others. Internet users think that they are safe being the worst that they can be behind their screens, and the only thing that can stop that is all other of us using internet, to make it clear it is NOT ok to behave like a toad.. You cant argue with these people but you can report them and tell youtube that we wont have this anymore, to try to force them to change their take on youtube viewers. Depression is truly an enemy to be feared. I suffered chronic depression for many years. Once someone said to me it must be hard to be in the bottom of a deep hole. I exclaimed 'With depression there is no bottom to the hole. You are just falling and you don't know why. This is why depression is so hard to combat.' Love and understanding are the best treatment. Nick and Sarah, our little family of four have been watching your channel since you passed by Finland and met up with Vantastic. We are travelers and absolutely love your way of traveling and incredible positive energy. Your kindness really shines through. Our 13 year old daughters love Dizzy and Charlie (well, we do too of course) and you've opened our eyes to a part of Spain we've never explored before. Lee’s death has effected so many of us. It seemed that after the breakup there were certain people who picked on her. Horrible, and sad. She had a lovely light spirit in many ways. Breaks my heart. I’m glad you brought it up. 🤗take care.

I have watched your videos for a long time but have never commented here but I do comment on insta. I watch a lot of van life channels. Max, Lee and Occy were my favorite channel too. Thanks for doing this video in Lee’ s memory. I feel that watching many van lifers’ tributes to Lee helps me grieve for someone I never really met but cared about. I feel exactly the same as you guys..... This cyber bullying is not good and has to stop. I follow lots of vanlife youtubers ( being newbies ourselves) and you guys are so inspiring. Max and Lee was a firm favourite too. I felt so so sad hearing the tragic news of a beautiful young lady, with amazing smile. I think people are so jealous because they would love to live life so free but they don’t have the guts or they’ve fallen for the “what we’re SUPPOSED to do”. They’re miserable and instead of fixing their own life they try to tear yours down. I’d just pity them and move on.

Very well done, a very tough subject but you handled it very well. "Every person's death affects me, for I am a part of mankind." I recall seeing a tv documentary on a very wealthy individual who was asked what would he do if he had his life to live over. Having several fabulous homes, plenty of fame and fortune, I wondered what his reply would be. It was, ""To be kinder." Oh my, that fits so well in what you guys said in your video...to be kind to others, and to yourself. Lee was a beautiful person in so many ways, she will be greatly missed here on Earth. Hi Nick and Sarah We are 2 old fogies who since retiring, have been loving your van life adventures. We are Scottish and have been living in Canada for 33 years. We always enjoy your videos and the banter, as we feel so at home listening to you. You are so down to earth, and do things in such a relaxed, but informative manner. We especially love your drone shots. Your wee dogs are so cute, and funny. Many times I am thinking something and the next minute you seem to answer my silent question. There will always be haters, who should be pitied, as their lives must be so devoid of love and friendship, that they must drag anyone they can down with them. Watching you two at the moment and it brought to mind what I've been thinking for a while whilst watching all of our van-life favourites. (particularly when you can't actually travel and are struggling for content) When your lives are solely reliant on "likes" and "views" and you are all aware of the direct comparisons between you all it must be very very difficult, even without criticism, to stay upbeat. You have to give the impression of a great life and fun even when life is, let's face it, depressing in its (for most) lightest form. My wife and I discuss it often because we travel in our camper for months on end and occasionally say "We could do that!" Then reality kicks in. " It's a full time job looking happy!" You have our admiration and we wish you good luck for the future. Xx

Thanks so much guys, we’re lucky that we’re pretty happy people and try to always see the positive side to everything, but of course we do have bad moments/days like everyone else, we love being in the van and visiting new places and seeing how beautiful things are around us so it’s easy to share that, but yes, at the moment when travel is limited and the future is unknown, it’s definitely more difficult to stay really positive all the time! I have a very small channel, 650 subs, it’s growing, slowly, I do it as a hobby, but I’ve been horrified at the abuse thrown randomly at me, it really makes you shudder to think what is going on inside some peoples heads that make them lash out, hurling abuse at you, for basically offering some a form of entertainment. I put it don to the sad and and sorry lives these people have, who are some consumed with hate and envy, that they act this way. Unfortunately, this is a side of social media that a lot of people don’t see, especially as creators. Keep up the great work.
