I suffered from BPD since I was 9 years old, and took until I was 46 to get an accurate diagnosis, and now my life is worth living.

I'm so thankful for this woman and her question. I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and can really relate to her experience. I'm not on medication. The Power of Now has truly helped me with overcoming my reactivity. I still have my moments. I no longer identify with my depression, anxiety or even BPD. I used all of these as excuses to be reactive. And I recognize that. I'm so grateful.

I've seen hundred of Eckhart's videos and this has to be one of the most warming ones of them all. Mental illness vs presence is a hard question to tackle from an argumentative point of view. He embraces the use of medicine as a way to strengthen the girl's biological tools to battle against her condition, while at the same same time ackowledging that ultimately there will be no definite cure without Presence. And through the course of his answer you can feel how his advice is already lessening the burden on that poor girls mental activity. She just lightens up, maybe even sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Very sweet!

Mental illness is the most misunderstood, painful and stigmatized illness that one can have because people cant see it. Its something that has happened weather it be a trauma or what have you in the brain. People should have more patience and compassion with others suffering through whatever they may have. If they dont, you may walk into their room one morning and find something very horrid that could have been avoided if they just had true empathy toward that suffering individual .

@NishitazBlog are you seriously asking this question? Have you ever experienced psychosis or hallucinations? People become suicidal for a myriad of reasons, sometimes it's simply unprocessed trauma, grief - or depression, which in itself can be treated in myriad different ways. Bipolar is like depression and its opposite packed into one and taking you on a ride, snatching your awareness alongside. Why would enlightenment fundamentally change this structure, as it is only a realization of the transcendent plane - not really 'fixing' the psychological

I don’t know about that. I have suffer mental illness throughout my life, and have found freedom through deep spiritual healing and meditation. We live in a physical state and must therefore respect the nature of our biology. Yet that doesn’t mean you are restricted to strong medication for the rest of your life. She is young and brave. I believe she will discover her path ❤️ also, this man was discussing something incredibly complexed and sensitive amongst hundreds and thousands of people with a woman whom he’d never met. Situation is complex and depends on the person. Highly dependent upon whether the illness is organic or reactive. I think it’s right that in certain circumstances teachings are very limited but also in certain circumstances so is medication. Really depends on the person and the problems involved. But in the same way that teachings cannot fix cancer it’s not going to be able to fix an organic / chemical imbalance problem. Although it may help to some extent. But in this case, as she herself has implied, the medication has obviously helped tremendously. Once the medication produces a balance, then she can move on to trying to implement the teachings. But it’s probably that way round.

This is me I was on antipsychotics for years, huge doses and then I found meditation and presence meditating with Eckhart, which is helping with the roller coaster which is bi polar but I will say no psychiatrist has ever helped or know anything about the way the mind works but because of Eckhart I am now medication free x This man is brilliant ❤

Too much significance is given to the mind by the west. Thus we get involved in the psychological drama of our lives thinking it is the most important thing. But my big toe is also part of my body strange how we never get involved too much with our big toe. The toe is an example.. but once we learn to stop giving significance to our mind... what it does to annoy us simply starts to die and fade. It only lasts because we give it attention rather then look at it through awareness.

Omg you're so attached to the one approach of 'getting there' that Eckhart is teaching. Actually, meditation is also a valid way to work with the painbody/trauma, for instance - which is definitely a goal. Or other goals, relative to one's mental health, for instance.

Meditation really helped me with my BPD, as it's a fundamental aspect of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I've got to the point where I can manage it without medication and am rarely suffering more than I can cope with.

I had the same diagnosis as this young lady and then some. God bless her soul hearing her story and reminiscing on how I was made me shed tears and how far I've come I was on every medicine for over a decade that you can imagine rapid cycling and hallucinating in and out of institutions, suicidal, homicidalI finally found myself and awakened learning to heal my trauma and realizing diagnosis are nothing but labels and at the end of the day it is all trauma-based and we all just need to heal and learn to love ourselves, watching this young lady made me realize how far I have came and I pray the same for her and many like her, my heart goes out to anyone struggling with a mental illness I hope they find their strength inside them like I did me, it took a lot of hard work I am finally off all my medications and I feel better than I have in my entire life it was a slow process getting off of them so I took my time the doctors always brainwashed me saying if I got off my meds I'd end up in jail or dead but that was furthest from the truth, I'm more alive and in tune with myself more than ever, I'm now one with myself, I've meditated a lot done a lot of self healing learning to love myself, I did a lot of shadow work facing my demons accepting and forgiving myself at the end of the day we all just need to heal, if I can do it anyone can, I definitely do not recommend medication being the answer though that's my personal opinion, I pray for everyone and their healing in their journey love and light to you all ✨💜💫 but watching this lady definitely brought back memories of how I was only a couple years ago and how free I am now sometimes you have to look for the answers within yourself and discover your own truth. And God bless Eckhart, He's help me tremendously throughout my journey, since focusing on my spiritually I've grown and learned a lot, especially a lot more with staying in the present moment and not the past nor the future, And also learning more about being conscious, trusting myself and my own intuition and not looking for approval from anyone but myself. I suffer from schizophrenia with bi polar tendencies very cyclical and yes this was extremely instilling to presence, to be focused and Meditate on transcendental awareness, the breath is sacred, tappering off medication with a professional is an optimism I now have, and am looking forward to the potential stillness of my mood with meditation and meds until seen as more coherent, I do sit with myself at least 20 mins out of the day for reflection, more structure is a feasible ideal, bless this woman and allow her to overcome and accomplish this illness, may we both be empowered with stillness, and transcendental bliss

This is a nice thought, but really, it can be a very hurtful one, if you actually present it to some people with real, severe mental disorders along with a few intuitive 'simple solutions'. The thing is, most people really do not understand how complicated and damaging a lot of these mental illnesses actually are - because they tend to take their ego for granted, they take for granted the fact that they function, that it's easy to, say, go get groceries or handle a short conversation with a stranger, or not get lost in a city, or plan basic things and execute, or relate to others in a civilised, non-threatening way. For some people, these things could very easily become extremely difficult, and the 'disorders' are in a way, means to cope. What if internally one is actually a toddler, for instance, and has no ability to function beyond their defense mechanisms? I feel that there is a very serious lack of reliable knowledge in the intersection of spirituality and mental health (the more abnormal/less typical cases) - and there's little confirmation whether formal meditation, for instance, or work with the pain body is certainly safe for those people.

She is so adorable 😍 I also have coped with 22 years of bipolar disorder/Schizophrenia Affective Disorder and I decided to stay off the meds this year and practice presence instead. Totally agree. My sister came off her medication due to some bad advice from a therapist. She went steadily downhill and committed suicide. It was a tragedy because it was so unnecessary. When she was on medication she functioned normally. and made a huge contribution to the world in her field of science. People with bipolar and also those with schizophrenia can often think they are cured when stable on their meds but it’s rarely the case. Very dangerous to come off medication without strict medical supervision. And devastating for family and friends. 😢

Medication and meditation are both useful. Remember whatever you say about consciousness still goes back to body; Brain Hence, neither medication replace meditation nor meditation replace medication. They both complement each other. Just as being in nature doesn't replace proper diet while trying to get healthy and peaceful

Just seeing this for the first time,I finally read the Power of Now recently after a neighbour gave it to me 2 years ago when I was suicidal and couldn't see the point anymore after being anorexic for almost 30 years, I finally sought help and was discharged from the clinic a month ago and have been watching Eckharts videos and things are so different now. Alcohol definitely contributes to Bi-polar. I have yet to meet anyone who drinks who doesn't have manic episodes exacerbated by drink. I gave up alcohol and gradually my Bi-polar became non-existence. This has happened to many people who were diagnosed with mental illness and depression. Just had to air this; as a solution to some; but obviously not all. I wish this young girl best wishes for the future.

Very delicate issue to tackle. Even if u are not a shrink , brilliantly done, Eckhart. That response carried deep empathy for her condition. And it was recieved well by her. Exactly! I wish he had left off the suggestion to try to become unmedicated. There’s nothing wrong with taking medication. Suggesting meditation alone could fix everything just adds to the stigma and isolating feeling of mental illness in my opinion.. With medication AND meditation, balance is attainable. Eckhart's teachings and inner body meditation has helped me immensely to deal with my depression and anxiety! Consciously sitting with my own thoughts and feelings and getting in tune with my body from within has helped me a lot to stay rooted and sane even when I am at my worst! I don't know about future but today I am at a far better place than I once was!☺️

As someone who suffers from a mental illness and takes medication, I know that I need to take the medication or things will not go well in my life. I have not suffered any real symptoms in over 10 years and live a normal life, but things would be bad without medications. I do not quite agree with Tolle here that she should try to go off of her meds because things could go very badly for her and her life if she does in my opinion. The Power of Now changed my life last year but this is one thing that I do not agree with Tolle on, and I know in other videos he has said that some people need to take medications, so maybe this was unique for this woman. I am also present almost every day and meditate daily so the medications do not hinder this for me.

@@authentic_101 For some it isn't just a phase. Many have committed suicide or made serious errors of judgement after going off medication for mental illness. Just because this lady looks and acts well doesn't mean she would continue to be well if she came off her medication. It depends on the person. Some people have a chemical imbalance in the brain and may need to be on medication permanently. You don't suggest that a diabetic could go off their insulin if they look well do you?

Who is this amazing woman?! I love her gentle and warm nature❤️ I medicated for depression for 10 years until I fell pregnant with my first daughter. I haven't had to go back on medication since. It's been 8 years now and I am so grateful. Medication is very useful, but it does make everything a bit grey... A detachment which is needed at times. I wish her all the best ❤️

My wife took her own life Nov 2020 due to mental illnesses. She watched a lot of near death experiences and Eckhart Tolle and others. She was off/on medication trying different things. She was told she had General Anxiety Disorder in 2007, was re diagnosed as bipolar a few months before her suicide. She was very upset with that. She left a note saying she couldn't stand her sleeplessness and the medications anymore. She wanted to return to the universe and be rid of her mind. We were together 22 years. I now listen to Eckhart Tolle and Mooji and some sleep meditation to be able to sleep. I still have not slept properly since she died. My heart just aches.

So desperate to feel the power and presence of now. I have read the Power of Now. And listened to so many of Eckhart's videos. And I repeatedly try to meditate, visualise and breathe. But when you are severely depressed and anxious.....all you feel in the moment us severe pain, anxiety and inability to breathe

I just listen to his voice. When anxiety is present it’s hard but doable to think rational. The constant mental chatter. What I have been doing is constantly changing those negative thoughts to positive thoughts no matter what they may be. If negative thoughts come it amps up my anxiety and depression.

It’s an ongoing thing but I’ve been having bits of peace. Retraining my brain. I let myself feel it too but try not to attach to those thoughts. Even looking at tv try to focus on the tv and let the thoughts pass or constantly change them to positive thoughts. It’s work yes but I know you can come out on the other side better than before and so can I.

Mornings can be the worse for me but today was better. It will get better, one day at a time. Surround yourself with pillows front and back like a baby. Really baby yourself and allow others to do so if others are around. Rub your legs and arms and try to focus on how that feels. When you walk focus on your steps, when you hear sounds focus on the sounds. Things will get better I promise. Try guided mindfulness meditation as well.

Yes,she said that presence sometimes doesn't not feel good,your mind wants something to worry about ,but gradually the intensity reduces, gradually you feel the tiger has become a cat..now you won't fear that agony,it slowly dissolves ..slowly but surely

However eckhart shared that those with the heaviest pain bodies (those with these mental illnesses have usually gone through childhood trauma) and so their presence power must grow stronger to overcome that. The suffering cracks open the shell of the ego to allow at least some light of consciousness in.

Dear Eckhart: Thank you for the profound effect your teachings have had on my life. That being said, in my opinion your advice to this young woman to think about going off medication is misguided. Much better that she appreciates and continues the practices, through which she is creating balance in her life. Should her DOCTOR suggest that she get off or change her medication in the future, fine. Until that time, keep doing what is working now.

@@fad2679 Thank you for your support and recognizing it's an opinion. I am sure he would agree he's not perfect or above other thoughts on the matter. I had just imagined in my mind that he would have challenged her expectations on what presence means to her. Bipolar I think deserves a lot more nuance and care when taking a spiritual approach to it. I appreciate his earnestness on having medical supervision.

Wow, what a beautiful treasure she is. With my much less severe BP I think what goes up must come down and that the killer down is just something I have to accept. I have also noticed over the decades that the anxiety that now accompanies my depression these days is the fearful feeling of being trapped and alone, I can’t handle my own alone company. I am working on presence and challenging myself with accepting the aloneness and even as far as using silence during the day (no TV, music, radio) when I’m at home. I have a feeling it is already working after a couple of days. Hope this may give hope. Eckhart’s videos have become a great comfort to me. I love ‘getting’ and agreeing with stuff he’ll touch on, you can see it in your life and experience and it’s great inspiration!

Wow I feel exactly the same. I cant handle my own alone compan...😢same same. I am also working on that, but sometimes death feels like a shotcut. I suffer from borderline personalityn depression, ptsd en anxiety disorder. I am holding on or trying to find relief in teachers like eckhart and abraham hicks aswell. Sometimes it feels hopeless because norhing seem to work to feel better. You will probably never read this comment antways, but I wish you the best❤❤

Being depressed or manic yet knowing that it won't last both provide powerful motivation to remain as the detached alert witness. Psychological pain has freed Eckhart and many others. I hope she's kind to herself, sees that emotions are not her, and wakes up soon. Detachment and middle way teachings like "Affirming Faith in Mind." (capital M in "Mind" = Awareness) can help. Good job, Eckhart, and good job, lovely kindhearted person.
