I had this thought too. I put 4 coats of top of the line coating on my car and I still need to gently wash it with all the steps and then add a ceramic “topper” on it after anyway as drying aid etc. Basically it looks nicer in between and I love my car is really the only reason haha

Really great tip, a couple of cars for friends recently could have done with this as a starter and would have saved me a lot of time and effort using other products. Been browsing citrus options for a bit, still on the BH autofoam. it's nice to mix it up and experiment for one, and secondly this is great for when a whole wash just isn't practical for whatever reason. Thanks! (edit: typos)

Jup, bug season has commenced. My method is pretty weird.... Since I use Rinseless, I can't really use APC as I can't just rinse it off easily. So instead, I found that summer windscreen washer fluid works very good and easy! It doesn't interfere with the rinseless performance, but hits hard on bugs and bird poop!

Not quite. I have one vehicle (a pickup truck) that I used to wash once a year, or two. I ended up with patches of clear coat missing where the bug guts + sun + time completely dissolved the clear coat. Paint is fine underneath. I fixed it with a bit of wet sanding and a can of clear coat. Ended up ok, since white paint is so easy to work with, but I suspect that the damage would have been worse on a darker car.

any mild degreaser that is alkaline and non-caustic will remove most bugs if followed by a pressure rinse. Ive seen people use dryer sheets, the dreaded bug sponges, and much more. Mineral spirits or a decent bug remover followed by a pressure rinse does wonders. Requires no scrubbing. Hit it with ONR or N-914 and walk away. I do this literally every day

This video leads into something I've wondered for a while, and I've not found a decent video for (as yet) ... "Essential Kit for a Road Trip". I'm thinking a box of items to use in association with a garage pressure washer whilst away for a couple of weeks. The bug relevance being "Scottish Midges", but also overall keeping clean and shiny without taking every bit of detailing kit (I don't have a tow hitch 🤪). Anyway, just a thought for a video, perhaps. 👍

Jon, are dedicated bug removers just citrus cleaners or is there more to it than that? I seem to recall a video where a bug remover was sprayed and you could see the bugs 'melting' away in a streaking fashion, similar to how iron remover bleeds iron spots, it creates a purple trail on the paint. Got any experience as to whats in those products which differ from your APC/citrus?

John, 99,99% of you videos are excellent, but I disagree with this one: I see no reason to drag all those bugs around inside a single brush. Also, looks like a lot of work. I'd use surfex HD + hose down. If anything is remaining on the paint, use a rinseless wash and a microfiber towel folded in 4. Also not drying my black car would be a bad idea for water spots, so I'd use another towel to dry the car using the rinseless solution as a drying aid.

@@sebster6031 you’ve still not actually refuted my point. Whilst my ‘paint is paint’ may be oversimplified, the compounds within different coloured paints by a single manufacturer will be virtually identical other than the dye chemicals and this has a negligible impact on ‘softness’. Anyone can detail, it’s a manual job that barely requires a brain. The fact that you think a soft brush clearing bug residue will lead to swirls on a clear coated car by virtue of the fact that it is black tells me that you’re just trying to make out that you know more about detailing/paint than you do because you’re essentially saying one could lightly run their finger over a black car and it’s going to lead to some marring or paint defect 😂

Impressive citrus cleaner Jon, to eat into those 150MPH bug guts! They love a bit of track day fast food, so good to get them off quick 😁 👍🏼

8:36 Maybe today, but tomorrow you'll be removing all the water spots XD. Could just spray it down with a good ONR solution after hosing down and then wipe it dry. I'd never let a car with hose water air dry unless I had one of those fancy CR Spotless filters.

I've powerlines that run over my driveway with birds sitting and crapping off them all the time.... pain when i catch it late and its already burnt into the clear slightly so have to give it a little quick cut and reseal... do you recommend anything? apart from an air rifle to get rid of them pests
@61js

Stick with the air rifle, get a cover or park somewhere else. None ideal but there you go.

Not for me this approach John! Takes 5 minutes to blast citrus wash over it and then jet wash off! Leave pressure washer setup hanging on garage wall. Always good to go then 👍

John why don't you have puml sprayers not trigger sprayers for certain jobs- I've leaned so much from you ( thank you again) but ive 2 such bottles, ok I use loads more of whatever it is ( one is citrus) but having medical conditions and also the time they save....still regardless thank you for alive learned from you 👏👏👏

I have a pressure washer with 130 bar 1600 watt for €70 is it too powerfull? I like it a lot it works good. I could change it for a K2 or Bosch home they are Both€70 but with 110 bar and no wheels, or a 120 bar one for €130 or 105 bar for €60
@martin1649
@martin1649 2 жыл бұрын
It's probably fine either way, i use an older K2 that still has wheels and it's been serving me well for over 6 years, i don't have a good foam lance so i apply my prewash with a pump sprayer, though with a good lance like the mjjc pro there's videos of k2s producing acceptable levels of foam, only thing that sucks is the short cable which i replaced for a 10 meter one and my absence of a short trigger kit
@kiswendsidac9447
@kiswendsidac9447 2 жыл бұрын
@@martin1649 thank you for your reaction. I like it because it's a little boost i would be harmfull if i would hold it on a part of a car where the clear coat isnt good, but if you are carefull keep you distance and use the right attachment you should be fine right? I also have a problem with my foam but i can't find one because it is a home brand. So that sucks, i make sure to use the best foam i can find and work with what i have. I also start to think of useing ph neutral cleaners, is it really better? For you i would say do it with what you have if the pump spray is good then why not? There is also a foam cannon for a garden hose but i dont know if they will do the job. I bought my pressure washer i came with a plastic foam cannon it does the job i guess. Have a Nice Day and thank you again! I will see what i can do. Work with what you have right?
