Statistics released very recently here in France show a drop in the number of births at the staggering figure of 45000 in 2023 compared to the previous year! Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, the parliament voted OVERWHELMINGLY to insert abortion rights into the constitution. A demographic expert allegedly commented that very soon we will be manufacturing more coffins than cradles here !! Desperately sad, and very worrying.

I believe renewing our baptismal vows everyday is important..especially when you say them out loud..very powerful against demonic powers. This is what I pray daily: I BELIEVE in Thee, O God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth. Thou hast accepted me as Thy child, and in the laver of regeneration, Thou hast constituted me as an heir of Thy Kingdom. I believe in Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, only-begotten Son, Who hast suffered and died for me, and through Thy Precious Blood hast ransomed me from the slavery of Satan. I believe in Thee, O Holy Spirit, Who hast made me and consecrated me as Thy temple and chosen me as a vessel of grace. I renounce the devil with all his works and all his pomps. I renounce all the evil desires of the flesh and the world with all its vanities. and deceits, and I firmly resolve to lead a truly Christian life. May the Most Holy Trinity strengthen my purpose, by whom I seal this renewal of my Baptismal vows, in the Name of the Father, + and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Outside of God, Mary, the Mother of God, is the best source for consolation. However, when dark thoughts overcome me, I pray: "St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection ....." It seems that St. Michael can't wait to put Satan under arrest. 🙂

When it comes to Mary and Protestants I just tell them the Bible says all generations shall call me blessed. I have a friend who is fair to me in conversation and called her blessed. It probably at least made him think more about her moving forward

I agree with every word you say, Gavin, because I fell into the same traps you mention. Disciplined prayer, Rosary, Holy Hour, Confession, Eucharist, wearing the Miraculous Medal, and saying the St. Michael prayer are ways to strengthen ourselves. This particular talk of yours is so very important. How do we evangelize our own Catholic/Christian brethren? The devil is very clever, luring souls in the name of compassion.

I think it was St Antony of the Desert who said that he crossed himself when the devils came, saying 'In the Name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit .and I think he added God be Praised for All Things' . But that may have been added by St John Chrysostom . Anyway the demons fled when this was done. I use the formula when confronted by evil thoughts and they appear to flee even from me. It also makes the world around pleasanter to encounter. an Orthodox source may have been St Athanasius . Worth a search on the internet by those who are attacked.

It is now clear, more than ever, that the evil one’s plan is quite simple, which is to always introduce false ideas going counter and completely opposite to God’s word and what is sacred. So many examples…In the beginning God created heaven and earth, but the evil one has convinced so many of the undirected and impersonal idea of evolution. God made them male and female, but the evil one has introduced the idea of gender fluidity. God said love your neighbours and be willing to die for them, but the evil one has so many convinced of the idea of self-care first and foremost and that even abortion is now seen as somehow virtuous and right…and so on. The evil one’s only goal is to destroy us by drawing us away from the Truth, the Way and the Life. Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us and save us from the evil one!

From what I see it's less of a "vicious" response and its more of just some Prots (and I'm not one) being geared towards giving it all to God and Jesus and not sharing that with Jesus' mom... When you read the desert fathers, how many times do you see appeals to Mary? Very little from what I've seen... When you read the early writings of the Philokalia, how many appeals to Mary do you see? Very little... I think the Prot aversion to Mary stuff is based largely on their tradition as well as a genuine and "pure" motive of keeping all things worship/prayer/veneration/etc. pointed towards God and they don't want it shared with Mary...
