Dean Martin sings "For The Good Times" live on his TV show (April 8, 1971). Dean was almost bursting into tears.

My Mom and Dad didn't listen to alot of the same music, but this was what I would call "their song". They were married for just over 21 years before my Dad passed away. My Mom was a widow at 42 yrs old and I was a 19 yr old sophomore in college. Every time I hear this song, I think of my parents. Mom has now gone on too, after being without her only love for nearly 36 years. Maybe soon I'll be able to join them and we'll be a family again with my older brother too, also gone, just 2 years after my Mom went to be with our Dad. Love this song and the beautiful memories that it brings.❤

Thank you for your kind reply. This year has been particularly difficult, and my Dad passed away on Sun Feb 11th and was buried on Wed Feb 14th, 51 yrs ago, and it just so happened that those dates were on the same days of the week this year and I've been in the hospital for a week now, with no visitors. I'm glad my parents are together in a better place and I'm ready to join them.

Dean's voice was so warm and mellow, but he could reach a low range that made the sound deeper and ... more mellow. He also had a tremolo in the same league as Elvis, though I don't want to say whose was best (too close to call for me). I appreciate how well Dean pulls the emotion from this ballad. This is a great vocalist doing justice to a song by a young songwriter who would go on to be one of the greatest, Kris Kristofferson.

Jeanne and him was going Thur a divorce about this time so that would explain the tears. It also had to be hard cause he was a star it was public knowledge. I have to hand it to him cause he was not afraid to show his feeling. A happier copy of him singing this can be found on KZbin from 1983 he was on a tour in London. It was his birthday, he got a award and best of all he announce that Jeanne and him was back together. Then 2 or 3 songs later he sung this song with a big smile. I think this is my favorite song of his cause the w different versions I have seen.

I'm a huge Elvis fan, who sings this song as well. But this version is really great. He sings it with such a great feeling. Very emotional. I like the 1983 version as well.

I saw both Frank and Sammy in Vegas but did not get a chance to see Dean. He was the king of Kool with a capital K. Sammy always wanted to be Frank, Frank always wanted to be Dean, and Dean always wanted to be playing golf. His said and did funny things and Frank could not tell a joke to save his life. Remember the good times. R.I.P. fellow Gemini. ( Died 12/25/95)
