Dean Martin was a National Treasure, as well as a wonderful person. Dean was a gentleman and polite to everyone. His "Mr Cool" monicker was well deserved - it was genuine. Dean never affected or put on (except in his "drunk" act - Dean didn't drink that much.) This made him a great actor too. When I asked if he had any acting lessons, he laughed, "No," as if it were silly. I had the honor of dining with Dean many times. Of all the celebrities I got to know, Dean was the nicest and kindest. (James Garner is right up there too.)

The story about this song, Frank Miller on the left wrote this song about his wife and three girls you can hear in the lyrics. Terry in the middle wrote Bear Necessities for Disney then left the band (The Easy Riders) to work for Disney. Dean was nipping a little I heard brought in by a Kid in a milk carton to hide from producers. Frank told me this a few years ago along with other story's before leaving. Dean was a remarkable singer and I will always miss him. This is just some of my memories that I have. Thank you, Benjamin

What the heck are the other verses that the Easy Riders are singing? (Aside from Sweet, Sweet... which is the chorus), there is a song within a song. Both are being sung simultaneously. I am going insane trying to figure it out. If I owned a mixing console, I would just push the background into the forefront. Help!

Easy to hear why Elvis said Dean Martin was his singing idol. A fact that people who only like to give credit to Elvis' influences in the R&B & Country genres don't know or just don't like to admit I suppose. Another thing I was tickled to find out about was that Capital Records was 'adamantly' against Dean recording this song. But he was persistent and did it anyway. The result? His first No1 hit! Just more proof that Record Company execs just don't have a clue most of the time. Dean knew a hit when he heard it!

Terry Gilkyson was not in The Jordanaires. In 1956, he formed a group called The Easy Riders with Richard Dehr and Frank Miller. The group had a major hit with "Marianne", both written and performed by the trio. The record sold in excess of one million copies, earning a gold disc. The three also wrote "Memories Are Made of This", which became a popular song in several versions, most particularly the one sung by Dean Martin backed by the Easy Riders.
