In my opinion, Dean is, was and will always be the greatest act in Las Vegas, whether appearing in the early years with Jerry, with the RatPack, and most particularly as a single..MGM must have paid him a fortune to open the Hotel...these films you post are pure gold....thanks so much....

ww2berry I agree too. They were all great entertainers, but Dean was the best of the best.

What a perfect time of year to enjoy a slice of old Vegas! I must say; Dean Martin was my all time favourite. What a treasure to see all these stars. They all had many opportunities to celebrate get dressed in evening wear jewels tux for opening nights movie premieres etc. Doesn't happen anymore.Thanks once again for upload and the memories Luke! And Merry Christmas!

I've seen several clips like this from this era, and a swinging big band seems to follow them around wherever they go.

Saw Dean with Count Basie at the Sands. Must of been like 1964 or so. Vegas was a different place back then. Less metropolitan.

The Late Great BOBBY DARIN was signed to open on this engagement but died on the 20th, just 3 days before. Might be why so many stars helped out here....anyways...thx for posting.

You are full of sour grapes. Get over it lady. Those men couldn't do their act if they were truly drunk!!!!
@daniellack35598 жыл бұрын
Chloe...you are exactly right, in interviews years later, Dean used to laugh at the idea that he could be performing at world class level while being drunk...he said it was of course apple juice in that glass, and that he really did not enjoy apple juice...LOL...

Luke, the original MGM Grand. I was in Vegas not too long after the fire..staying at, if my memory serves me, the Aladdin next door.
Luke pallie, I knew that MGM became Bally's -- I worked Bally's in the early 90's. Bally's still had the movie theme working from the MGM..the suites were named after MGM stars...I forget which suite I was in. Trying to remember what the hotel was where I stayed not long after the MGM fire -- I could look out my hotel room window and see the MGM next door. Years later, I stayed at the new MGM many times

How long did Dean Martin do his opening in December? Like did he do his act for several weeks or just a few nights?
@soapbxprod8 жыл бұрын
Gee, dunno but I bet that you can Google search for "Dean Martin MGM Grand Hotel Las Vegas 1973" and find out pretty fast. :)

I think in the mid 70's Dean worked mainly at MGM. When he was on the telethon with Frank and Jerry in 1976, Jerry ask him if he was working... He said he work at the MGM 6 weeks a year. That don't seems a lot but we are talking about someone who work so he could play golf. Also all his celebrity roast he did at that time was also at the MGM. So yes i think he was there a lot.

My man wants to visit New York, maybe we'll make a deal and find time to visit Palm Springs then. I do not want to cry over things that do not exist any longer, sadly.
